The game that was meant to be. As the 2001 trailer showed us. Released. Check download sections, ladies!
Duke Nukem Forever was meant to be released shortly after Duke Nukem 3D's success. Unfortunately, the developers were remaking the engine each year they saw something new on the games releasing at that time, switch from Quake 2 engine to Unreal engine and so on. Eventually running out of money and going bankrupt.
The game saw its light of release in middle of 2011 but it sucked badly. Most fans were disappointing seeing this game as a COD-clone and whatnot. There was no mod support either, which could have saved the game from its poor reputation.
In 2013, two men (Gambini and Mikko Sandt) decide to save the reputation of DNF, by creating a mod for Duke Nukem 3D (running on EDuke32 source port) that recreates the old trailers of DNF, basically the DNF we all wanted!
Without going further, this clearly gets a 10/10
This was amazing! The first level starts off a bit slow, and besides the new art and a few references played like an ordinary Duke 3D level (although the view from the top of the lady killer is stunning) and there's good atmosphere.
After you get the bike, there's a bit of a turning point and gameplay starts becoming more ambitious and interesting, plus all the references, both in-your-face and the smaller ones, and the obvious/exact replicas as well as ideas/locations etc which are only loosely based on the old trailers.
Is it DNF? No, but (besides the start maybe) there is not a single boring moment in the entire thing, and you'll have a huge grin every time you come across something from the trailers (especially when it's gameplay related and not just a visual thing). It definitely has a DNF feel, but some parts have it more than others.
Soon after you start, it grabs you like a vice and it won't let go until you finish. 100% Recommended! Go download now.
Well...I think this title FINALLY deserved the quote "The Duke Never Comes Early"
This and the new DLC put the icing on the cake, simply put this is amazing.
This was the game we were waiting for and I can't even say that Duke Nukem Forever by Gearbox exists anymore.
It only took fifteen years but we got it.
Hail to the King Baby!
One of the greatest mods ever created! This is simply just amazing how these guys managed to put in every single detail from the media of the old (the best) DNF 2001 build. Maps are stunning and large, "new" enemies you encounter are carefully coded and offers you a new kind of challenge, new features such as the "Dukebike" are awesome and the overall gameplay is simply one the greatest experiences you will hardly seek & find both in the gaming and modding industry. You guys deserve more than a medal for this, happy holidays and good luck in the MOTY 2013, gentlemen.
