In this mod of Duke Nukem 3D, all 12 of Duke’s weapons gain experience points and upgrade as he uses them. Duke’s max health, armor, and some of his inventory items can also be upgraded. As you progress through the game, you will encounter more powerful monsters to match your increased firepower. Based on the popular Duke Plus mod, Attrition incorporates many of the same features (including advanced monster AI, bot allies, mirrored levels, damage effects, and more). Attrition comes with a large number of high quality fan made levels. In some episodes, missions are selected at random, and you must reach a certain score to unlock the boss level and finish the game. In War of Attrition mode, you face a series of challenges with "Invasion" style gameplay. Addictive with lots of replay value, Attrition showcases some of the best levels ever made for Duke 3D, adding new gameplay but keeping the essence of the original game intact

I see, If the secret levels are skipped are we able to play them at all? All the ones in the 2nd episode were awesome for stocking up on ammo and items in DNWMD, and is also ideal for this one as well. :-)

The secret levels of the original episodes are all there (as of version 1.01), but they are played as regular levels and the order has been changed around.

I'll be interested to hear whether AirmanKJE's suggestion of not using the Polymer renderer helps. Crashing AFTER each level sounds suspiciously different from Airman's problem.

Polymer is a WIP renderer so it doesn't surprise me that it crashes a lot for some people. If running without Polymer does not help, then please send me a copy of your eduke32.log file after a crash (that file is generated each time and can be found in the same folder as eduke32.exe).

It seems to be fine if I turn off the Polymer lighting. Unfortunate because it adds a nice touch of atmosphere.

It seems after several minutes of game play the game crashes and goes back to Windows. I use Windows 7 64bit not sure if that has anything to do with it though. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the nice feedback, guys. I didn't mention it in the documentation, but Attrition is a sequel to Duke Nukem: Weapon of Mass Destruction. I decided to use my DukePlus mod as a code base for this, instead of going back to the DNWMD code.

So did DNWMD change to this or is this something else? O.o

After playing this for 3 hours (lol) it is DNWMD but better in most aspects! There were some things I found while playing:

1. Shrinking babes in cacoons and trying to step on them does not kill them, Duke gets stuck trying to squish them repeatedly untill the cacoon comes back to normal size.

2. When you find a secret level and try to go to it the game automaticaly skips it. 1st encounter of this was when I tried going to the secret level in episode 1 and it skipped me streight to Abyss.

Some things that would be nice to add:

1. A bonus for killing all monsters on the map.
2. A bonus for getting all secrets on the map.
3. A bonus for getting all monsters and secrets on the map.

More to come...

1. That bug you found is in the source port (EDuke32) and not just my mod. I'm surprised no one noticed that before. I'll report it and hopefully it will be fixed soon.

2. That's not a bug, and no levels are being skipped. Because of the way level progression works in Attrition, I had to normalize all of the nuke buttons so they always take you to the next level instead of secret levels.

There's a new version 1.01 awaiting authorization. Should be available for download soon.

Highest Rated (4 agree) 10/10

I can't believe this mod has a rating under 10, its incredible and really adds a simple effective system to Duke Nukem. I played through the arena-type missions and had a friggin' blast. Never has Duke Nukem or any game recently been that enjoyable. The installation is hassle free (unlike the other Duke Nukem mods) and runs efficiently well and smooth. I'll be playing this mod for months maybe even years to come.
