DREAM CASTERS' DUEL is an original, online, multi-player, UT2k4 mod. Dream Casters' Duel will combine elements of a FPS with a barebones fighting game in a stylized, anime setting. DCD will feature:
Synopsis: Lucid dreaming: A phenomenon in which a dreaming individual is able to consciously bend the reality of the dream world to his or her own will, performing, for all intensive purposes, the miraculous...
Osaka, Japan. Electronics goods here are cheap and plentiful, and foreign companies can conduct business shrouded in a secrecy misattributed to cultural and language barriers. It's exactly this kind of environment that the Dream Research Institute wants to capitalize on as it conducts research into the anomaly of lucid dreaming. Funded by a military research department, the ODRI hopes to understand how the disembodied, persistent consciousness of the lucid dream state operates and use that understanding to pilot a new generation of unmanned vehicles.
At the ODRI, researcher Alchem Albrecht has assembled a contingent of test-subjects willing to conduct a foray into the nether regions of human conscious and beyond. The test-subjects all possess the ability to dream lucidly and have been hired to prove their proficiency. Empowered with the latest technology, Alchem Albrecht is able to both challenge and observe the contestants within the dream state. Only the most fantastic dreamers will witness the results of these experiments... Fewer still will come to understand their purpose, and only one will achieve their significance....
Game Play Synopsis: Dream Caster's Duel will combine elements of a FPS with a barebones fighting game in a stylized, anime setting. The POV will be third-person in order to better facilitate hand-to-hand combat. In each map, characters will initially engage each other in hand-to-hand combat, using blocks, parries, throws, punches, and kicks of varying speeds and strengths. Successful hand-to-hand combat will result in an increase of the character's concentration level. Concentration levels can also be achieved by meditating, though meditation will leave the character vulnerable to attack.
Different levels of concentration will enable the character to execute varying strengths of telekinesis attacks including projectiles, summons, and cinematic finishing moves. These moves are character specific.

This week's DCD update delivers a treasure trove of new media! To pleasure your eyeballs, point them at the following media; Marrish wallpapers, in-game screenshots from Marrish's map, and a video featuring Marrish's map! This marks the completion of the last of the maps slated for the beta.
If you'd like a wallpaper in a different resolution or color scheme, don't hesitate to pm me!
Marrish's map is a decaying clock tower, suspended by the mind's-eye in mid-air and orbited by it's own refuse! As a uniquely styled vertical objective map, characters will have to battle each other to the top. Scale the ladders, take the lifts, or leap onwards and upwards from one piece of debris to the next! Also of interest, Marrish can be seen taking his summoned pirahnas for a walk. As usual, you'll be able to hear a section of the map's soundtrack.
Although the encoder has dropped frames and the characters have yet to be cel-shaded, I feel the video is a worthy addition to the ever growing DCD media armory. The next update will feature... I've no idea actually. There's not too much more to complete. Thnx as always for your support!

A new and better set of wallpapers featuring the lethal latex-wearing character Kiyoko!
The interwebs have been very good to me and I've decided it's time that I gave a little back in the form of a tutorial.

Congrats, dood! Keep up the stellar work. :)
WOW! Thnx! :) !
Congrats on the award guys, great work :)
congrats on the award mike! :):)
Thnx as always! I think you'll enjoy the short production video that'll post this Friday even more so than the still renders. It shows Kiyoko demonstrating a back-flip and her invisibility 'super'. Also avaliable will be a render of alternate skins. Of course, there's already a couple of new renders avaliable to the members of the DCD forums! ;)
I love the visual style of this mod, I'm thinking it'll be a winner :)
Good work my friend, That looks good, perfect for the style.
why isnt it fair to say they arent good? Its my opinion so I can state myself.
Even if theyre "anime-anatomical" correct (which is a vague term), the coloring makes them look messed to me since it appears like they have no depth at all.
And no, I do not have an aversion to anime, as a matter of fact I love anime I just dont like that specific style.
Whatsoever, good to hear this is not just everything you've got. Now Im actually eager to find out how the visual style of the actual game turns out.
*repeats mantra* Constructive criticism is good.
DJ-Ready, I agree with you that a mod should not consist solely of concept art. This however, is not the case with DCD. I already have numerous visual materials created, including renders and production videos, that will be released according to the PR schedule. Even more media than what is referenced in the schedule will be available to members of the DCD forums.
I also agree with you that the website and game concept are nice.
I have to disagree that "the cocepts (sic) arent (sic) that good either, propotions (sic) are messed (sic)". The concept art pieces were actually traced from 'concept' renders of character meshes I designed. The meshes themselves were created as overlays of anatomical and 'anime anatomical' reference materials. The meshes and subsequent line art (with the exception of Mina's fingers perhaps) are all proportioned to exacting specifications. If you think they are "messed" it may just be because of your aversion to the anime style, but I don't think it's fair to say that they aren't that good. Further, I think that they the character concepts are more original than what you would find in a comporable retail game.
Generating hype will be necessary to attract mappers and coders to the project.
Finally, hello and thnx again to rolf106 who seems to be everywhere at once today!
Thats exactly whats disturbing me. They act (sort of) professional but I just cant picture them as those by judging those concepts.
No offense though. Cant judge the game when I havent seen/played it yet.
well whatever.
