SYNOPSIS: Lucid dreaming: A phenomenon in which a dreaming individual is able to consciously bend the reality of the dream world to his or her own will, performing, for all intensive purposes, the miraculous... DREAM CASTERS' DUEL is an original, online, multi-player, UT2k4 mod. Dream Casters' Duel will combine elements of a telekinesis-fueled FPS with a barebones fighting game in a stylized, anime setting.

Representing the Lone Modders and Original Game Creators groups, mikejkelley is pleased to present DCD's first in-game video!

This week’s DCD update delivers a wealth of new media! In the video Mina demonstrates the fluidity of her parkour while giving an in-game tour of her Dream Castle’s four zones; sky, ice, jungle, and lava. In addition to the new map and custom animations, you’ll be able to hear a section of the map’s soundtrack.

Although the encoder has dropped frames and the characters have yet to be cel-shaded, I feel the video is a worthy addition to this, the first of a series of "Vote for DCD" news posts I'll be creating and releasing throughout December.

Please tune in next week Friday for a video featuring MJK’s custom animations and graveyard map! Thanks to everyone who has voted for DCD thus far and I wish all the haters the best of luck as they struggle with this one!

Pretty cool for a single man mod project. Impressive how the view changes at the start from closeup to total and reveals how small the character is in comparison.
I wish you wouldn't do this on your own however, as another person, especially a character modeller, could add a new scent to the same flavor. It would just make it richer, instead of spoiling it.
It's neat how it is, though. I'm just saying it could be even fitter!

Sinking may be right - it looks like you've still got a long way to go with code, despite the great media.

Thnx, I must admit, as 2 engine generations have passed since character development first began, the models look a little plain compared to their contemporaries. Some have, and others have yet to, undergo revision.

The 'plainness' however, is significantly owing to practicality for the following reasons; as DCD is a cel-shaded game the characters must conform to the visual shorthand of cartooning. Also, because of the cel-shading, the characters must use significantly less polygons than a traditionally rendered character as everything on-screen is essentially rendered 3x per frame. Add to that the fact that many of the characters will be able to spawn sidekick bots and you can begin to appreciate how function begins to limit form.

And a lot of it is that yes, it takes a lot of time for one person to create 14 distinct players. ;)

Anyways, long story short, I'm confident that the next three updates will give you an even more favorable impression of DCD!

Thnx! Yeah, I asked them to change the video preview image to something other than a grey blob. I also suggested they allow the person posting to be able to choose the preview image. Doesn't look like they're going to do either... :(
