However, those that crashed to the ground quickly started to grow a strange tentacle-like appendage, able to slice through concrete like a warm knife through butter.

What if it ate infantry to repair itself?
The tip of the tentacle opens up as a huge mouth with thousands of little teeth in a circle inside, ripping apart any poor sacrifice being fed to the tentacle.
You mean like a grinder?
There's no point in adding special healing tricks since it can be repaired normally, and a ranged bite attack can't be animated properly anyway.
Plus, why would a tentacle have a mouth? :P
