The award-winning Discovery modification was designed as a full-scale expansion pack for Freelancer. It breathes new life into the familiar PC game by adding lots of new features without taking away the atmosphere and balance of the original. Discovery allows players to develop and explore far beyond the reaches of unmodded Freelancer, both in multiplayer and in singleplayer modes. The modification adds 68 new systems, 152 new ships, hundreds of new weapons, equipment and commodities, new factions and NPC encounters, its own storyline, and much more - everything seamlessly integrated into Freelancer universe. View distance limitations, 1 billion player credit limit, and 10 million item price limit are all things of the past for Discovery. In version 4.84, the mod will receive amost half a hundred new ships (most of them created by our community members and never seen before), dozens of new weapons and equipment types, 5 new systems, and much more. Don't miss the release on Mod DB!
Freelancer Mod Manager (FLMM) v1.3 or v1.4 is required to activate this modification. After you download, rename this file from "Discovery482.zip.flmod.zip" into "Discovery482.zip.flmod" so that FLMM recognizes it. This is necessary cause ModDB.com won't allow to upload files with flmod extension. Open Singleplayer is now integrated as a mod option, no additional patches required. Before you start 1) Please read the Readme.txt file, at least the first parts of it. Then you will know answers to most questions that beginning players ask. 2) Do not enable Open SP when you are playing online. 3) Before you enable Open SP, make sure that you have a backup of Freelancer\DLLS\BIN\content.dll file. Freelancer Mod Manager (FLMM) will delete this file during mod deactivation, and you'll need to restore it manually. If Open SP is not enabled, content.dll will not be deleted. 4) If Discovery won't activate properly in FLMM, your Freelancer installation...

Before you start
1) Please read the Readme.txt file, at least the first parts of it.
4) If Discovery won't activate properly in FLMM, your Freelancer installation is most probably corrupt. Reinstall Freelancer and FLMM, if necessary.
5) Installing 1.1 patch or Freelancer SDK (of any version) before Discovery is not recommended. Patch is included into the mod, and SDK may cause game errors. Same is true about unofficial patches.
6) Do not forget to transfer scanners, ID items, and armor upgrades each time when you buy a new ship. These items are displayed in 'Internal Equipment' section of ship inventory.
7) ID items present in Discovery are not used only for roleplaying. They also act as tractor beams. Civilian IDs are available for purchase from every base (500 credits).
Overview
Discovery is a modification that expands Freelancer universe without spoiling it with unneeded or illogical changes. This mod retains atmosphere and balance of the original game, both multiplayer and singleplayer, and adds new interesting features, allowing players to develop and explore far beyond the limits of unmodded Freelancer. Those features include 97 new pilotable ships, 59 new systems, lots of new weapons, commodities and equipment, battleship encounters, improved artificial intelligence of NPCs and many others - everything seamlessly integrated into Freelancer universe.
With improved balance, stability, and server performance, Discovery 4.82 is a significant step forward in comparison with 4.81. Numerous new setup options allow players and server administrators to customize gameplay according to their preferences. We've even incorporated Open SP into the mod so that you don't need to download any additional patches to enable it! See complete feature list and changelog below in this readme.
Discovery features a storyline about a war between Bretonia and Kusari that started shortly after the Nomad war - see news on different bases for more details. Story will evolve and continue with next Discovery versions.
If you prefer online play, you are welcome to official Discovery Freelancer 24/7 server, and a number of other servers running Discovery mod. Server operators are allowed to run this mod without any restrictions, IONCROSS data files are included.
