Dino D-Day is an exciting new First Person Shooter from Digital Ranch Interactive. You’ll play as Sgt. Jack Hardgrave, a renowned paleontologist who thought he put his career on hold to go to war…then Hitler resurrected dinosaurs and unleashed them on the Allies in 1942. When the Fuhrer’s monster army saw battle for the first time in North Africa Hardgrave was on the front lines – nearly getting eaten alive by beasts he spent his life studying. This is an HL2:OB mod that has served as a prototype for a commercial release of Dino D-Day slated for 2010. We look forward to community input on this early version of Dino D-Day as we continue crafting the game over the next several months.

Right, the readme.txt claims you need an Orange Box game, however I tried using the Source SDK Base - Orange Box appid(218) and could play through the whole episode without ANYTHING being different then when HL2:EP2 was mounted, so either HL2:EP2 is mounted in code or there really is NO dependency on Orange Box games.

From what it seems, it's just like any other SourceMod that isn't mounting any specific orange box game content but is just on the Orange Box engine... you just gotta mount Source SDK Base - Orange Box, and ANYONE who can download the normal Source SDK Base can also download the Orange Box version of that! So dudes without Orange Box, do not pay attention to the readme! Go to the gameinfo.txt and modify the SteamAppId to be 218 and you should be able to play the mod just fine!

TF2 is an orange box game, also Portal and HL2:EP2, HL2 and EP1 where in the Orange Box but aren't on the Orange Box so they don't count as Orange Box, regardless you shouldn't need ANY Orange Box game from what I can tell(unless it's being mounted from code along with the gameinfo.txt) assuming you change the SteamAppID to 218 and have the Source SDK Base - Orange Box(which you can get if you can get the normal SDK Base as well)

Anything with an orangebox engine counts as you having the orangebox when it comes to specs.

DuckSauce Nov 14 2009, 4:33am replied:

lmao, yeah I kinda dislike RAR for that reason, not everyone has WinRAR, so they shouldn't be forced to get it.

Also funny to note is that it's an installer... packaged in a .rar, usually installers are smaller then zipped/rarred stuff anyway and the only reason for doing this seems to be the added readme.txt, which could have been stuck somewhere else as well>.>

Why not you try the Power Archiver. It just extract any archives easily... it has ability to extract multiple archives and create the folders using the archives' file name... I have been using it years now... I suggest you let the power archiver update itself. I have noticed that there is evaultion period... after that period, you will have to buy the license to use it full power... and I just use it to extract them...

I've downloaded this thing 4 times. Every time it took an hour at least, and most times the file got corrupted in the middle. Then when I finally got it to work, I ran the installer and then it skipped every single file.

Worked like a charm. Thanks mister.

In regards to the game. It all looks and plays great. I love the cinematic music. The main problem I had was the accuracy of the guns. It takes forever for the crosshairs to tighten up sometimes. Ironsights would be great. But I have really enjoyed the game so far.

I have started playing the mod and think its great. Its a great concept sort of like a comic book I saw on the net "dinosaurs and Cadillacs".

But..

The scripted music events can this be optional? In l4d you can turn the music off. I personally find the music annoying. You can't hear anything with that background music. You really miss out on listing to important sounds, like dinosaurs chewing your head, being shot at, footsteps, the hum of the locomotive, I think sounds like this make the game not some muzak in the background.

Thanks!

The only complaint I have is to replace the sounds of the dinosaurs with custom sounds. Besides that this game is awesome, while injection hilarious tidbits along the way. One such thing is the soldiers getting attacked by the triceratops. Also, when you get messages from Hitler that go from evil, to happy at the end made me laugh. You can't forget the raptor army either. 9.2, hoping to see more

Devs,

Try to use self-extracting tools, they are handy.

And.. try to avoid default install paths and registry readings.
The EXE decompressed nothing because I don't have Steam installed in a proper way (no, I'm not planning to install it in a proper way, I just want to pick my own extraction route)

Seems like a great mod to play but I won't be able to play it. Awesome.
