It was said that the Goddess of Beauty and Love herself created the Island. She created it for all the enemy races and fighting factions of Tamriel; as a haven in peace and tranquility, where all petty grievances would be forgotten, and there would be no cries of war and no clash of arms. She painted Her island like a piece of art. She made it with lush forests, streaming rivers and fertile farmlands; She raised mountains in the north and in the west, made beautiful islands and painted endless plains. She made the land for a beautiful people who She drew from all the races of Tamriel.

The People of the Goddess worked the land and erected great buildings and monuments; they explored, they learned and they grew in numbers. Their achievements were many and their society grew strong, although the road ahead was sometimes rocky and rough. The Island of the Goddess became the Paradise in Tamriel that the Goddess had planned for. Indeed as close as could be with mortals and not gods running it.

But in the far west, the snake in paradise raised its head. The dark Deadtree Clan formed its black legions and stormed down from its prison in the mountains; to conquer, to pillage and destroy the peace She had installed. Angered and spurred by their devilish gods, they broke through, grew their numbers, raised their barbarian banners and set the march east to destroy civilization and beauty once and for all. Dibella's beautiful island was about to be torn by war and fire.

A month before the release of Skyrim, I give you the Västhelm Expansion for Dibella's Watch. This expansion comes with a new northern island kingdom called Västhelm which has an interesting quest tied to it as well. The whole island is Skyrim-inspired, of course. The expansion also works as a patch; fixing previously found bugs, but also adding to the Land of Dibella's Watch in other respects. There is more landscaping, more work done on existing questlines and even masses of new meshes for you to enjoy. Oh, and I need to mention the new in-game map as well. I put a lot of work into it this time, and it's smashing, if I say so myself.

The New In-Game map

To start the Västhelm quest, you need to sign up for the Crusader Army at Castle St Graecius in the Western Deadlands. Once you've earned your sword and rank, the Crusader Lord Marraldor will continue to give you quests tide to the Crusaders, but you can also ask him for an alternative assignment, which will send you off on a diplomatic mission to Västhelm, which then develops into more than just a simple diplomatic assignment. Follow the installation instructions when installing! For those still having problems with the installation (although it's pretty easy and straightforward), I've written a FAQ with everything explained in great detail. This FAQ is included in the download.

Dibella's Watch came in second in the TesNexus File of the Month voting for September 2011. It is a great honour and success for this mod, to say the least. It was beaten only by Unnecessary Violence, and that mod is created by a man who can control the game with his mind (I'm actually not joking), so it feels great that this can only be passed by greatness like that and indeed took an honourable second position! Thanks to all who voted for Dibella's Watch, and please do continue to vote for and endorse this project.

Dibella's Watch isn't done, y'all! I'm still working on it. Now comes the time for patching and correcting small problems as well as adding all the new stuff I can come to think of. So, continue to report problems and give me suggestions. I'll be here, working on this, at least for a month still. When Skyrim comes along, I will disappear into my darkness for a while, only to pop on out again with more great mods for that game as well! Yay! Can't wait!

Here's a goodie. Gruftikus has made better Distant Land LOD for DW, which makes the pointy CS mountains look like beautiful rolling hills finally.

I used to play Oblivion to death, then I sold it with my old xbox years ago, and seeing all these mods, I really want to pick it up again, but it's so old now lol, and Skyrim's going to be comming out soon. So my question is, should I pick up another copy of this game to play this? Anyone have an opinion on this? And also, are there any mods that anyone knows of that adds companions? Cause I've always loved the Fable series, and missed not having that ability to have wives and families etc in Oblivion...

If you liked Oblivion without mods and are thinking about picking it up for computer I would absolutely recomend doing so. There are just so many great mods out for Oblivion. There are lots of awesome addon mods like Dibella's Watch, Elswyr Deserts of Anequina, Lost Spires, and lots of others that are really good. On top of that, there are a couple of total converstions that are essentially entirely new games for free! There's Nehrim: At Fate's Edge, an amazing total conversion by SureAI. There is also Middle Earth Roleplaying Project (MERP), a huge Lord of the Rings based total conversion that is in beta (it is planning to port to Skyrim, but another large release is on the way for Oblivion before Skyrim arives). There are even grapics enhancing mods like Qarls texture pack and Oblivion Graphics Extender (OBGE). Oblivion with mods is a totally different (and much better) experience than without mods. So long story short, I would absolutely recomend picking it up. It is fairly cheap.

Oblivion sells pretty cheap on Steam and other places right now, so you might want to consider watching the prices on there. There are a lot of companion mods for Oblivion, among other things, the CM Partners system, which adds probably hundreds of companions all over Tamriel, and you can even create your own. There's also Vilja. She's the best companion ever created for Oblivion and I can swear the girl is alive!

I believe the GoTY edition was on sale a while back for £5, pretty damn cheap for such an epic game. I have to agree with you there, effort has been put in but there are much better companions & mods around if you look for them.

I am really enjoying the mod but it seems I encountered a bug. I am doing the quest to find the sword Diabella Wrath, in the room where the sword is I killed the three enemies with a bow while in sneak mod and got the sword. When I return to camp noone gives me any dialog to further the story, and in my journal it still is written that Iam on the quest to find the artifact despite already having it.

Antiscamp Aug 11 2011 replied:

Thanks for reporting. That IS a glitch. You see, as you enter the room where the sword is, one of the orcs is supposed to approach you and the dialogue there is supposed to advance the quest. I never obviously thought of the possibility that someone might kill them all before that orc even got the chance to approach.

I will fix it in the patch. If you need it quick-fixed in your ongoing game and don't want to go back to a previous save, please send me a PM and I'll supply information on how to get the quest going again. Thanks for reporting this glitch.

Is this mod compatible with previous save games? Sorry if this has been answered before, I was just wondering if this will work with my old save. I dislike vanilla Oblivion, but awesome mods like this one keep drawing me back, lol.

The many updates of the mod do invalidate existing saved games with characters that have been in DW during the beta phase. You can create a clean save with an existing character though, but all the quests have to be done again since the Beta. It does not invalidate saved games with characters that have never set their foot on Dibella's Watch soil.

Dibella's Watch is completely compatible with Oscuro and the like, because it does not alter anything in Tamriel, but only adds to its own worldspace.
