Hello!

We're into December. This is a shorter update than usual, simply because we just don't have that much area to cover. First up:

Development targets

We're aiming to wrap up production, and ideally, launch sometime within the next ten weeks. As before, this is a loose estimate based on current progress and team member availability, and until environment design is finished, it will remain difficult for us to commit to a fixed launch date. In other words, we won't know when we will release until we're nearly ready to do so. This is simply part of making a non-commercial project with a widely distributed team; as much as we would love to, we can't guarantee a steady development pace.

This leads into the next bit...

What we have for you right now

Currently, the environment being redesigned is Area 51 Sector 2- the entrance area to the underground bunker that houses staff barracks and recreation. We've got a few screenshots of that to share:






We've also got another tune from the Revision soundtrack: Enemy Within Conversation.


A few general comments

We know that development on this project can be frustratingly slow at times, so thank you for bearing with us. We're closer than ever to completing this project, and we always appreciate your support. We'll follow this up with the Revision Goodie Bag on Dec. 24th as a sort of christmas present to the community.

It seems the chapters are divided according to the map numbers. (For example 04_NYC_Street is in Chapter 4 while 10_Paris_Club is in Chapter 10). I must admit though, this idea of Chapters is really neat.

Vanilla just called them "Missions" internally. The concept of a mission is that you can typically go back to all maps in the same mission, thus the game needs to keep the state of all previous maps when making savegames (and savegames can then be huge, basically it's the size of all previous visited maps in the mission). As soon as you are done with a mission you can't go back and the saves will be small again.

We just took that Mission concept and named it Chapters, that's all.

Yes. All the maps except some bits of A51 are finished. That is all. :)

I think the testing is finished. The fixing isn't.

Yeah. The testing is more is less done for now, it's the fixing of bugs + development of A51 that takes time. One those things are done we are pushing out a final test version as everything will be complete. Once that is done we will ship.

That's not decided yet, since we haven't gotten to that yet. Sort of depends on how much the other maps are changed.

Yeah, since both the Helios and the Tong ending depend on how much the Area 51 level deign is changed. But the Everett ending can be done differently, like in Everett's mansion or some other area that we don't explore.

No no, I'm referring to the level design of the endings (that's why I said the Helios and the Tong ending can't really be changed much - cause they happen in A51, unlike the Illuminati ending)
