Destruction Derby MOD for Half-Life 2

This mod has JUST started so please stick around to see progress...

well first of, the car model is done, it only needs 20 skins on it (the reason for 20 skins is that all the cars are going to be the same (but have differant skins and car numbers) and have the same animations, so it saves time.

In this mod, you will be able to smash your car into people but at time this will make your car come off the ground (like in the destruction derby 2 game..) your car will tip on the sides and on its roof, cars will take damage, some of you may wonder "how in the hell are they going to get damage on a car using the halflife engine?!" easy! there will be a subfolder in your models directory (were all the models and player models are located) now there is going to be 2 folders in here one called "player" the other "damage1" "damage2" and "damage3" "damage4" "damage5"

in the folder "damage1" there will be the models for the cars with damage done to the hood

"damage2" this folder will be when the next set of damage is done to your car, the models in here will be damage done to the hood (looks at damage1 and you will see were am going with this) and side doors

"damage3" this will contain the models were the hoods of the cars are missing with damage done to the car

(so if you start as car 13 and loose your hood the game will quickly switch you model to the right car model in the folder "damage 3" and you will have lost your hood (hood graphics will be done with sprites)

"damage4" will contain models for when your car is beaten really bad (e.g. car is close to being wrecked with smoke coming out the engine)

"damage5" will contain your wrecked car with damage and black smoke coming out of the engine....

so you maybe thinking "well that ok, but what happens if i have the sides of my car trashed before anything else?!"

not a problem, the game will make sure if you take damage to the sides of your car or anywere else if will get the right model to replace with the current one ^_^

so there is your brief description on how the damage will be done. (note: loosing wheels will be added later one)

TIPPING ON ROOFS AND SIDES

ok at first i was thinking about this, and i thought why not it will be fun, so if your driving and some one knocks you over onto your side or roof, its ok you will be flipped back over on to your wheels after a 5 secound delay BUT the catch to this is, if you tip your car more then once, then your car will stay on it side or on its roof for the rest of the race/derby... so becareful on how you drive.

Destruction derby Bowls

well, this was hard for me to think about, am not sure if we can have any fancy derby bowls (like jumps in the middle etc)

but i did think, ok, you have 2 sides of a derby bowl

but in the middle there is a big hole like thing, that if you dont get enough speed up and jump it, your car will fall and it will distroy your car(but in derby bowls thats ok, you can respawn after you die, so there will be no waiting untill the race is done, you can click your mouse button and respawn and chase the other drivers again (so if you die and they are hurt, your can take them out no problem ^_^)

so imagine a huge circle type of bowl, and then cut to lines down the middle, now with those 2 lines add like a slide going down them, if you hit the floor of that pit, your car will explode^_^ there will be like a small ramp in the bowl going over the pit so your can jump (but becare full about your speed!)

another bowl will just be flat for full on crashers with no catchers to it.

the next bowl will be located high on a island... with water under it, if you car fall or gets knocked into the water your car will burn out and explolde and you will have to respawn (good for pile ups and taking out your opponants)

another bowl will be....

all cars start way above the bowl on a plat form going around the bowl in a circle, all car will have to drop INTO the bowl, so your car starts high on a platform, you start driving straight ahead only to fall. down and down you go, as all 20 cars fall and smash into the centre of the bowl (this idea is my favorate) and again if you respawn you will respawn on the plat forum on will have to drive off it and into the bowl again.
