Decadence is a story-driven multiplayer modification based on Valve Software's Source Engine that combines the personal relationship to characters and surroundings of single-player games with an adrenaline filled multiplayer experience. Decadence pits two teams against each other in a fight over territorial control. Each map is designed in stages to offer a more compact and action filled gameplay that puts focus on teamwork and strategy. Decadence is multiplayer with personality, where you play as one of four different characters. The character you pick is specifically for you and will give you certain weapons and other advantages, and you need to use every single one of them together in combination with your teammate to succeed. The environment will also be key to survival, providing cover from enemy fire as you advance towards their flag. Staying close to your teammate is vital in Decadence. They are able to help you in many ways, not only as an extra hand in combat, but they can...
Decadence entered a very special and interesting stage of development today; we released our first close alpha test version for a selected few. Also, media release!

Decadence has been in a playable state for a quite some time now, but we've reached a point in development where we need the input and feedback from others who are not actively working on the mod to see the mod in another light. We have been conducting game testing with everyone who swung by our office, but we haven't been near this scale before. So very interesting times are ahead!
The current testing team consists of 31 people from various backgrounds. Some are professional game developers, others are experienced Source modders and we threw in a couple of friends in the mix just for good measure. These selected 31 are divided into six groups which are totally independent from each other, meaning that they can conduct testing by their own force without worrying about organizing games between large groups of players. It helps that Decadence is built around two players versus two players, so getting a game up and running is very easy. We hope to get a wide range of feedback from these groups based on their various backgrounds.
The testing is pretty intense with a new version of Decadence being released every other week until release.
I talked a bit about usability and the ease of play by using abstract visual elements in the last news post. Visual elements such as icons to represent events or objects in the game world are now implemented and are doing wonders for the game. We added three new indicators to the game, and while these don't seem to impact the game too much in the first glimpse, they actually make the game much easier for player. We had to rely on our voices to speak to each other in order to come up with a strategy on the fly, but with the icon to indicate where your teammate is, it's now possible to time and execute an attack without speaking or chatting. The second icon will be represented on the screen is a icon to show you where the Water Node you need to capture is located. The Water Node is the most important object in the game, so knowing where it's located is vital! Capturing is made easier with the newly added yellow and black warning stripe around the capture zone to indicate where you are able to stand while still capturing the Water Node.
We will continue to work on making Decadence user friendly based on the feedback we get from the vigorous testing ahead! For more information, visit us at www.decadencemod.com

Great news and I'm well excited to start testing (First test tonight!). Also nice to see more of Decadence on ModDB, this is a great site for mod recognation and publicity which is something you need and deserve!
This mod will rock guys
Great to know I can't play this awesome mod yet but other people are... heh
He he :)
I'll second that. The advantages of making the alpha public (you could still make the beta private) is that:
- more people to play it => more feedback
- more people to play it => more chances to recruit valuable team members
Disadvantage:
At least 350+ people (29% of those polled) in this community tend to not give second chances to something that is NOT feature complete, hence "alpha" testing. Testers are going to bump into gameplay imbalances, bugs, and other nasty surprises. The point of a closed test is to get a variety of personalities to test something that is expected to be broken. The process can be fun, but it's also often frustrating.
Great news; now, I just cant wait to hear, "its out"
This mod will squeeze you balls! (in awesome way of course <3)
Not bad, not bad at all.
as a site designer, I have to say I am a huge fan of this mods homepage. very clean
dont remember tracking this, but glad I did.
