Small Version of the Title

It has arrived at last!

Caleb will need to muster all his strength to take down the mighty Tchernobog,
who has managed to free himself from the grip of death.

Death Wish is a massive new Blood campaign that has been under development since January 2010 and has finally been released. Every level is highly polished, and you may even see a few Mapedit tricks you never thought possible! The creator is a long-time Build veteran who has pulled out all the stops to make this the most amazing, original user content for Blood ever released.

  1. Over 30 levels spread out across 3 episodes, which includes secret levels and transition levels for flowing smoothly back into the main campaign.
  2. 6 new cut scenes, appearing at the beginning and end of each episode explaining the story and its developments throughout the course of the game.
  3. New story, taking place after the events of the original Blood and its add-ons while staying within the same mythology.
  4. The Tome message system, giving the player hints and story tidbits during play to further deepen the story and reveal hints or secrets.
  5. All the levels have been adapted to be playable in Co-Op mode, so you and up to 7 other friends can tackle Death Wish together.
  6. All levels include modified enemy and item placement depending on difficulty settings for added replay value. Even long-time Blood pros will find a challenge in Death Wish's brutal Extra Crispy setting.
  7. A very detailed plain-text Walkthrough is included. It is split into 2 sections: One with the basic player path discussed and the other revealing all available secrets.
  8. A Commentary text file is included, revealing the creator and lead QA tester's thoughts on Death Wish and its content.
  9. A detailed README file is included, ensuring that everyone can get things working properly even on varying file system configurations.
  10. Simple drag-and-drop installation — no confusing or malfunctioning installers.

A Long Time Coming

It has been ages since our hero Caleb set out against the evil Cabal, and this may be his biggest challenge yet. Three complete episodes, complete with the elusive secret levels, await.

The journey begins in the mountains and quickly takes you to the unforgiving, icy north. From there you will traverse a plethora of varied environments from dry deserts to dank caves in pursuit of your longtime foe Tchernobog. Years have passed and the world has changed, but Tchernobog's burning desire for power has remained the same. With Tchernobog's new powers to aid him, will Caleb be able to defeat him once again before it's too late?

If you don't have BMOUSE, try downloading that. For some reason that made it work for me.

Follow the instructions from the link. For some reason just having the BMOUSE application in the Blood folder without even setting it up makes Death Wish work for me. If I remove BMOUSE I had the same problem you described. So give this a shot, it might work. Also try having your IRQ in the dosboxBloodDW.conf file as the same value it is in the Blood set-up.

The people in the GOG forum are a lot better at answering questions about weird DOSBOX errors than I am.

Outstanding. Must-play for Blood fans.

It has everything: atmosphere, horror, intelligent and varied level design, intricately and lovingly crafted, insanely imaginative and fresh, times when it's quiet and times when it's a total slaugterfest, excellent gameplay and humour and I loved reading the tomes. Play this mod right now.

Version 1.4 is currently under way!

When I find the time I'll be gradually updating the difficulty level, multiplayer compatibility, and adding a few things where sector and wall limits will allow.

Stay tuned for updates!

The installation instructions supplied didn't work for me, so after checking the ini/conf files I changed/corrected some things that got the game to work for me. I'm using a fresh GOG install on win7 64.

0. Run and configure the Blood setup, set your keys. Your settings will also be used by the mod.

1. Unzip, copy all FILES to your gamedir (all files should be in the dir where blood.exe is located).

2. In dosboxBloodDW.conf:

- change machine=svga_s3 to machine=vesa_nolfb
- check if IRQ is the same as in the blood setup (default GOG: IRQ=7)
- replace [autoexec] section with:

mount C "d:\Games\One Unit Whole Blood\"
imgmount D "d:\Games\One Unit Whole Blood\game.ins" -t iso
BLOOD.EXE -ini dw.ini

Change "d:\Games\One Unit Whole Blood\" to your installation path.

3. In dw.ini:

Under [Episode1], [Episode2] and [Episode3], remove the C:\ from the cutscene references:

CutSceneA=C:\dw1a.smk becomes CutSceneA=dw1a.smk
CutWavA=C:\dw1a.wav becomes CutWavA=dw1a.wav etc.

There should be 12 lines to change, 4 per episode.

4. Create a shortcut/bat-file with the following parameters:

"D:\Games\One Unit Whole Blood\DOSBOX\DOSBox.exe" -conf "..\dosboxBloodDW.conf"

Change "d:\Games\One Unit Whole Blood\" to your installation path.

5. Play game by launching shortcut.

This did it for me, it should work for everybody who can run GoG blood.

Can you run GOG vanilla blood? I just checked these settings again, and they should work if GOG blood works. One thing I forgot to mention is that in the default dosboxBloodDW.conf, there are two [autoexec] entries. There should be only one.

Redownloading and reinstalling a completely unaltered version of Blood, see if that works.

Okay, I got it working now, but I still need to see if it'll work with bmouse implemented and with that patch.

I did notice the double autoexec and deleted the useless one. I can run GOG Blood just fine, I am running it with bmouse and this unofficial patch:

I don't know if that would make the above parameters invalid or not.

Amazing mod.
Out of the 30 levels I think there maybe only 1 or 2 I didn't like as much. Otherwise it's solid all the way through.

There is an amazing variety of environments all with different well executed atmospheres and interesting well thought layouts.

Gameplay is always fun and health-ratio is pretty much perfect in every map.
There is also some neat effects here and there and tons of secrets to find in each level.

A must play for any fan of Build engine games.
