Firstly, we're good. The biggest challenge to making a quality mod is the absence of money. Rent, food and student loan payments have to come before a penniless passion project. That in mind, a few months ago the team experienced a loss of leadership. Andrew and I both had to dip out for a while for completely unrelated personal reasons. I spent a good poriton of my time pursuing a seat at Army OCS. I won't leave until March. Now that my life has settled a bit, I'm able to plug back into Deadlock.

One of my favorite things about working on Deadlock is that I get to share some awesome work with you all. Here's more eye candy from Stefan!

More than anything, what we need now is an animator/rigger to produce the skeletons for our characters. Several guys have joined to tackle the project. Either they've got the experience but no time to do the work, or don't have enough experience to feel comfortable with the responsibility. We've come to a bit of an impasse because of this, but it's nothing the right person can't suss out. If you're interested, or know someone who is, hit us up!

No, again, the only L4D specific modding that can be done is server-side. All of Valve's latest games run on the Source engine, making them little different aside from content. Thus, "modding" L4D as opposed to "modding" HL2DM is really more of a spiritual designation, not a practical one. You can build a game on the Source engine under Valve's free, non-commercial license, which is what we're doing. If you own any Source game, you'll be able to play it.

... I'm on this team. Note username of the poster of the above news article. All client mods for Source games are themselves Source games. Deadlock is based on HL2DMOB, like every other Source-based multiplayer "mod". No L4D-specific SDK exists, or will exist. If you have any Source game, you'll be able to play Deadlock.

It's a Source game. If you own any of the Source games, like L4D, HL2, TF2, etc, you'll be able to play it. :)

Regarding gameplay:
If teams we're killing each other repeatingly and one on a team stands, that remaining survivor wins for the team.

Yet the idea is kind of bad right now because I imagine your the only survivor in the area with a ton of zombies in front of you...

So you get the "You WIN" message while zombies mauls at your face... Not very victorious feeling...

Maybe it would be much better to make teams compete to escape or finish a objective (getting to a escape vehicle/zone before the other team) so that even if everyone died, you may complete it yourself.

Might shorten game time and people like the modders will complain since they are Deathmatch type of players (who doesn't seem to care about detail) over general players...

correction: it will lengthen game time...

Deadlock: in terms of the definition, means you are tied with your opponents "toe-to-toe" and when used in this mod, the word "Dead" is emphasized for zombies.

Basically, survivor teams are always balanced and tied until the end.
