Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddlers Green is a Horror/Survival first person shooter from Brainbox Games. The game was released around October 2005, about the same time as the movie, Land of the Dead. It generally received poor reviews and was entirely broken.

Dead Epidemic changes all of this.

You play the role of Sgt. John Gates. Five years ago, you were sent to stop a terrorist organization by the name 'C.O.I.L', but everything goes wrong once you find your team slaughtered. One of your team has been poisoned by an unknown virus, and you have taken him back to civilization, were he died.

Problem was... he didn't stay dead.

It has been five years since the outbreak has occurred, and you have been stationed at a run down military base. There is no cure, and the hopes of finding one is very small amongst the remaining survivors. You have just gotten word that Dr. Necro, the man responsible for C.O.I.L, has just been found on a remote island of 'Queensport'. It is up to you and your new team to hunt down this madman and stop him from enhancing the virus. But on your way to Queensport, your transport helicopter get's shot down by Necro's militia, leaving you stranded without weapons, navigation, and a team in the middle of the country.

Dead Epidemic features a number of brutal weaponry to defend yourself with, ranging from shotgun's, pistol's, machine gun's, and explosives. All weapons have some sort of secondary attachments such as flashlights, brass knuckles, and a m203 grenade launcher. If you feel like one is not enough, you can dual most pistol's and sub machine gun's in the game.

We also introduce vehicles, which was a very missed part in Land of the Dead. Run those undead over and watch them splat on your windshield!

Not only is there zombies in the game, but we introduce even bigger threats...

The single player game has over 20 massive level's to keep you busy with a diverse story line. But if that's not enough, you can play around in the free-roam game type... where Queensport is your killing ground.

Dead Epidemic is set to come out Q3-4 of this year.

This is an interview done with CJ and Gamefan74 makers of the Dead Epidemic mod for Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddlers Green.

Can you explain to us a little bit about the mod your creating for Land of the Dead Road to Fiddlers Green

CJ:The mod is basically about a guy named John that is in the SWAT team during the undead outbreak. You get assigned to a mission in a island called Isla Mortal because of a secret weapon of mass destruction that plans to take all humanity out. But on your way to the island an accident prevents you from getting to the compound and it leaves you in the country stranded with the living dead. Your main objective is to find the compound and destroy the weapons. Another feature that LOTD didn't have was the gore level, the game will have much more blood and gore than LOTD intended to have.

How will the mod be gorier than the original game?

CJ:The game will have much more gore than LOTD originally had. For example, if you cut a zombies head off you will see brains and a whole bunch of other shit flying around with blood spurting out. Or you can take the machete and slice of the head instead of exploding it. In addition to that, arms legs and the whole body will be destructible.

What are some of the main features you are introducing that were not in the original game?

Gamefan74: Well a definite main feature apparent immediately are the weapons. Recently, I've added a whole bunch of features to them. So unlike the old weapons, which are all pretty much the same, our weapons vary in uses.

So far whats your favorite weapon that's been added?

Gamefan74:The M16A2, with M203 Grenade Launcher. I've worked like three days on that, and it's worked out great. Also I want to mention, when I'm adding things to the weapons, I try to imagine them in real life. Like, "What can I do with a Handgun, to hurt a zombie." There should be more then one way.

Are there any new enemy types besides zombies in the game, or are you sticking with only zombies?

Gamefan74:To keep the game interesting, the introduction to some new weapon features, and an introduction to John will be a dream map. Where the main character goes through one of his past adventures with his team. Which means no zombies, but a threat far worse. But, when we do get to the zombies, there will be practically a new set of models.

So are you hinting that we may get to fight some other humans?

Gamefan74:Maybe, because as we've all seen from Dead Rising, zombies can mess with people in great ways. ;)

CJ:Pretty much. You will see civilians on the streets and buildings that will help you in some maps.

Gamefan74:That is if you don't accidentally kill them and take their weapon.

Do you plan on introducing any new multiplayer aspects with the mod?

Gamefan74: there's been a special plan on that one.

CJ: Yes multiplayer is gonna be a factor in a later patch, were just concerned on single player as of now. The multiplayer will include some new game types and other features as well

Gamefan74:I'm also thinking of creating a set of weapons for each game type. Of course, this is practically the first time I'm mentioning this. Like, Deathmatch might feature weapons designed to kill people more then zombies. Course, there's not much difference between the two if you think about it.

Are the zombies going to be the slow lumbering type, or are they going to be fast like DOTD 04 zombies?

Gamefan74:Oh boy, are you guys in for a surprise. I wanted to do an evolution effect like in Land of the dead but with physical. And this is also a working idea not yet totally approved. The zombies, instead of getting smarter, will become more ruthless and bloodthirsty as the game goes on. Starting from slow lumbering idiots, to savage beasts near the end.

CJ: You can say that there will be many as you progress. ;) A little feature for zombies that might come in later on is zombies will actually pick up stuff from the ground and attack you with them.

So this should totally overcome everyones complaint about the original game being too easy?

Gamefan74:Yes. For easy mode, you'll barely get enough ammunition per level. Like Ammunition = Number of zombies. For medium, you might find barely enough ammunition and have to go Shaun of the dead style sometimes. And for hard, finding ammo will be realistic. I mean, what are the chances you're gonna find ammunition anywhere? Most of the starting levels will be bursting with zombies.

CJ: The zombies will be head shot only and they can take a lot of damage from people. Not to mention there bites can infect.

Ive heard something mentioned about a free roam mode, is this still going to happen, and if so will it be a string of levels connected or just one giant map?

Gamefan74:We're doing it like Postal 2, an entire city to explore, and maybe some secrets to discover.

CJ: Free roam is gonna be very fun, you can drive vehicles around and just kill zombies to your advantage

So vehicles will be implemented for the release?

CJ: Trin and Braindead's vehicle mod will most likely be used

Chicken or Pork?
CJ: Chicken
Gamefan74: Chicken

A big thanks goes out to CJ and Gamefan74 on giving Undeadgames an interview for there upcoming mod. The mod is look at a possible release at the end of the summer.

Almost forgot, you will need the original game installed as well in order to play this since our mod builds upon the basics of the original game.

As for the maps, once you install the mod, your computer would have all the files needed to play all the maps so its simply opening them and the game would automatically run starting with that map, only time you ever need to open the editor is if you're modding.

I know the question was aimed at CJ, but I haven't been here a while and felt like answering.

As for installation, installing and playing this game will practically be like getting a new game. There will be a self-installer and once its done, there will be a shortcut on your desktop. For major mods like this, we'll make it idiot proof, not saying anyone watching this game is an idiot or anything.

I think there wouldn't be anything scary about killing zombies in day time. It's the same for any menacing threat though, the better atmosphere to surround them in is night time. Cliched or not I don't really care myself, as I for one know it works wonders way more than day time. Day time is boring, night time is when the children of the night come out to play. Plus wandering down the street at night you can only see so far infront even with the street lights. But during daylight hours you can see beyond your normal vision, yet another reason to have only one or two daytime levels and outweigh it with more night time or evening levels. Keep up the good work CJUndead and co :).

I am really looking forward to this mod. I have been keeping an eye on this for nearly a year now. Checking back every couple of weeks to see if anything is new in development or in the way of screenshots. I am liking what I see so far guys, bring it on soon!.

Question for CJ:

See when the Dead Epidemic mod is finished, how will we install it?. There is no mod section to select it from like on the menu for Doom 3 it has it's own mod box where you can select the mods you've installed and play them. Will it be a self installer where we don't need the game?. If we need the game (I have it here) then how will we go about installing it. If you don't care to answer all this pal will there be a small READ ME file with it for instructions on how to make it work?. I have the 1.1 patch and it gives you the editor with it, but I have no clue as to how to open it. A thought just came into my mind, some Tomb Raider mod levels need to be run through the editor in order for people to play them otherwise they wont be able to. Maybe this will be the case for Dead Epademic.

Thanks a lot pal :)

I think it would actually be more scary in broad daylight, because a deserted city in night is clihce, but imagine a deserted one in broad daylight, that would be even more freaky, and zombies poppin outta nowhere in daylight would actually be freakier, since u expect the opposite.

Cars and helicopters were planned for the release, but they were not compatible with the game.

Mall on the other hand, yes. We won't show a screenshot of it, let's just say it will be a surprise.

The daylight maps we have are mostly cloudy or rainy, so don't expect unusually bright weather. :)
