Latest News - Dead End

27th November 2007 - What? Now An Update!?

Well well, it has been a while hasn't it? In fact it has been exactly 109 days since last we released any news. This has been for good reason, we have finished several more prop items and have also been working on a couple of side projects (still related to Dead End).

Here is the usual list of images of props/chars that have been completed:

These are (left to right/top to bottom), Brocks Girl, Meiping, Officer Simone (Updated), Safe, Club, Fire Extinguisher, Pen/Pencils & Box, Flashlight, Payphone, Ashtray, Ashtry + Cigarette + Cigar, Cigarette Pack, Donuts & Box, Car Key, Notepad.

The most noteable of these are Brock's Girl (an as of yet, un-named femme-fatale) and Meiping (a female witness to a murder).

Next on our list of updates is a short Machinima that we made using what assets we had to create a short parody of an old 1940s Occupational Health & Safety Induction video.

It can be seen HERE.

And finally, that last update is that I have now a personal portfolio up and running which can be seen HERE. On it there is detailed infomation regarding many of the props and characters that I have been working on this past year, so if you are interested please have a look and tell me what you think.

Just as an extra note, this new year the production will continue, however it will most likely be slower, and therefore updates will be much fewer and futher between, we are NOT stopping production however, mereley taking time to focus our attention elsewhere.

About

Last year myself and some friends got together to make a short film. This film was called "Dead End" and was a "Film Noir" styled 3D animation.

The basic story of the film was, a detective [Brock] is on the hunt for his lovers killer [it is a SHORT film ~1.30mins, not including creds]. Those involved were myself [Tim Kitevski], Daniel "Fin" Linigen and Richard Johnston. There were a few more people involved in the production but overall that was the main group that worked on the whole film.

The time we had to make the whole film was 8 weeks, this included pre-production, production and post-production. The final product can be seen here:

What we ended with was a final product we were all quite pleased with, the sound [SFX, Foley] lacks in parts as that was the area where we had the least amount of time to work.

Anyway on to the mod.

From this idea we [the same group of 3] have decided to create a mod using the Source Engine utilizing similar themes, characters and visual style. What I mean by this is that the story is completely independent of the film, but the basic idea of a detective [Brock] in film noir style is the same.

The story will still include Brock and you will play as him (amongst other characters). The Mod will be mainly based around the role of "You" the detective and have the option for the player to perform "detective-style" investigations or the option for the player to be a more ruthless investigator by utilizing more forceful methods of inquiry/discovery.

The Mod will also include the ability to play certain parts of the story as different characters so as the player can get a larger grasp of the story from several different perspectives. Some of the playable characters include: Brock (Main detective), Peter (Killer), Jake (Junior detective) just to name a few.

The Mod will also include a multi-path system to allow the player to freely choose the the story/direction that their player takes based on their actions/conversations/discoveries etc. This is the key element of the Mod.

The intended release for this Mod will be free to all, but if enough interest is created we intended to release a full version to market and distribute.

We do wish this to be well made and to play though well, so with this in mind we are aiming to first make a demo version and then go from there (depending on popularity, if it is liked etc).
Also since were are working on a demo we will be focusing to make something that is the best we can make it in the time we have.

All involved in this project will initially receive no upfront payment but if the project does generate enough popularity for a full marketed version to be released all those involved will receive according royalties.
