Dead before Dawn 2 DC loading poster

New Dawn is here

This is Hank Kowalski, head of security of the Crossroads Mall. As head of security I have a responsability for our customers and, of course for Jason and Billy. So I'm glad to informing you guys about the new and final update of my favourite Left 4 Dead 2 Campaign "Dead before Dawn 2".

YES, you can mount your Chainsaw against the infected freaks once again, and bully crazy shopkeepers. We optimized all scripts, and we did some cosmetic changes and handled little issues. This version is the "bloody" final one. After Left 4 Dead 1 was released, Dead before Dawn started in February 2008 as one-man-project. Stephan Botha: the former owner of promoted our campaign alot, so we are glad that finally Dead before Dawn returned on its roots. Without L4Dmods DbD wouldn't be so great like it is.

We would like to thank all community contributors who helped us out the last four years and we are proud to be involved in such a great Left 4 Dead Community which supported us so much.

The night is the darkest before the dawn and I promise you.. the dawn is coming. Come to the Crossroads Mall if you wanna live. This is Hank Kowalski, head of security.
Over and out."

No Zombies, no guns, no Zoey.. only Portals

We would like to announce our new project for Valves Portal 2: "CosmiscD's The Core". We stick as team once again together and creating a brandnew mod. Our favourite musican "CosmicD" (the Hans Zimmer of all custom Games) created this one. "The Core" is a custom campaign for Portal 2 and has custom puzzles centered around the manipulation of a constant inanimate companion testing element (cube and sphere).

Right now you are able to play Version 1.1. But the whole Mod gets a new look.

Finally got to play the whole campaing. What can I say?

The leveldesign is superb. No other word on that. The atmosphere is creepy - I really liked it. Also the finale is great! What I dislike is that I sometimes didn't knew where to go / what to do. I also disliked the "nightmare"-thing. I found that pretty weird and out of place somehow. 8 out of 10.

I also noticed that it's sometimes hard to get to through the.. the.. "hole" (from the underground, where you can hear the radio, you have to get up a ladder to reach the radio. There are generators standing around in the underground. I hope you get which hole i mean) in level 2.

This campaign is seriously hot! I loved it!
I did it with bots on Easy and Medium, nobody was deceased. I missed those heavy guns (grenade launcher and M60), maybe a Fallen Survivor freaking out inside the locked Pawn Shop and more hazmat undead guys... Maybe the food court back and some panic events related to security alarms. But this campaign is amazing as is! I really loved it! I love the movie! Romero rules!(I know this campaign is based on the remake)

P.S.: There are some small pink dots scattered along the maps, I think I saw 2 or 3, are they related to any model or texture issue?

Keep up with the amazing job!

I agree, I miss all the cool stuff they had in it from the beta. The Food Court level, the suicidal survivor who nearly blows you up, all the mini quests. Those were what sold the campaign for me, because that sort of thing hadnt been done before in Left4Dead.

Yeah, the campaign's design is still nice, the levels are pretty, but it lost a lot of the origionality and makes DB4D "just another mod" for me. I just think its a shame for all that supurb content that Brush & Co worked on to go to waste. Hopefully if enough people get on board we can convince them to release a Directors Cut version so then the versus people can have their sliced & diced abridged version, and the SP/Coop group can have the full version.

It isn't intentional, it's a game feature douche. All finales spawns infinite Tanks if you don't know.

ah.. one more thing: so we could disable escape tanks but that would reward players who are too slow in a wrong way, it would be just exploited and players would say "hey lets just be slow and fight all tanks on easy spot X, then have an easy escape"

This at least gives a sense of emergency and that they have to advance or else they will be penalized by this...

it was kinda hard to build this finale, not only because all of the scripting but also, how do you build a hybrid finale that isn't destroyed by users rushing it or slacking it ...

I think if people play it several times they will get it that they have to advance, there is a part of it that loops endlessly so if you wouldn't advance, you will be just stuck with an onslaught until you hit the trigger that marks the end of the onslaught stage and it shifts to the first tank.

The finale is just built for "run & evade" gameplay but at the end there's this sense of feeling that we want to create that you are "trapped at the roof" because CJ is such an ******* and is doing everything relaxed and will only arrive at his own timing.

But to not actually trap slow advancing players too much, there is no "finale stage control" on the roof and the director will just advance to escape, which means that when players who are "too slow" arrive to the roof, they are "rewarded" by a bus that is already there, but of course there are the escape tanks they have to evade.

But tools are built into this to let players make it easy for themself, either they screw it up or they use them to their advantage!

The best thing from finale is the custom escape vehicle. ;-)

You ask me, why was rating Dead Before Dawn with 10/10? Well, just play it and you will agree with my rating! Dead Before Dawn is one of the biggest projects a Source-game has ever seen. Over a half of a decade in development and finally released. I played the L4D1 and L4D2 version and it's a giant step between both titles. Epic scripts, epic events, epic maps and a fully epic style! The music rocks and the atmosphere of the Zack Snyder-Movie is perfect caught in this mall! But never mind. Don't…
