Dead Before Dawn features Crossroads Mall as a replica of the mall in the movie, Dawn of the Dead. Originally created for the HL2 Mod, No More Room in Hell but has since been undergoing major changes to be ported to Valve's Left 4 Dead.

It will take roughly 6-8 weeks before Darth_Brush can afford another computer and this will drastically delay the release of Dead Before Dawn. If you have some spare cash, please donate so we can buy Darth_Brush a new computer in Germany so we can release the campaign on schedule.

We are planning on releasing the campaign on Halloween, if we can get Darth_Brush a new computer/laptop in a week or 2, we will be able to stick to our goal. Please spread the news if you can't donate, maybe someone else you know can donate. To donate, please click on the Paypal link to the left of this article or send donations to admin@l4dmods.com.

If we can get Darth_Brush a new computer in time, we will release never before seen footage of the campaign in versus mode. We have been working our fingers to the bone for the fans of versus mode and we are confident that you will love the versus campaign of Dead Before Dawn.

If we do not collect enough money for a new computer, we will return each and every donation received. While we're on this topic, what do you think is a reasonable PC to use for mapping and playing Left 4 Dead?

To say thank you for all the people who donated, we decided to give everyone who donated $10 or more their own wall writing in the game. Now you, the player can search the campaign for your very own Easter Egg.

Erik and Stefanie donated and will have their names carved into a tree:
"Erik & Stefanie 4Eva" with 2 dead bodies on the ground next to the tree.

UPDATE!!!|

Hi guys! Just to let you know, we have now enough money to buy a PC. Darth_Brush scraped some money together that his wife won't know about (lol). He donated 200USD to the cause himself.

I am now just waiting for him to send his address over to me so I can finalize the payment of the PC. Donations are always welcome, but from now on, there's no need unless you really feel like you want your name in the campaign.

I personally want to thank each and everyone one who donated, wether you donated 1c (yes, someone actually did) or if you donated $100 (some people did). It always makes you proud to be a part of a community that helps eachother up when we have fallen down.

I would also like to tell you guys, that the guys who donated $50 or more will now be included into the Beta Testing team. You trusted us with your money, we will trust you with our campaign.

Again, thank you so much for all your help! I will post an article on www.L4DMods.com when we have the PC assembled and ready!

I haven't crashed once. And while the install instructions weren't very clear (and they were missing in the file uploaded here), the campaign is still a lot of fun.

It's a BETA. You knew it was when you downloaded it. A beta is supposed to have issues. These guys were nice enough to upload the file to a massive user-base that have been waiting patiently because they're confident we'll be happy with the final product.

It was a beta, a public test, and a first impression. I'm not sure whether you know it or not but players, or testers as you put it, are submitting bug reports... in the form of anger. That's pretty bad in my book. It shouldn't have taken him/his team under his name/whomever to reach this milestone of 'shit' after 4+ years. If this mod wasn't so haughty & full of hype while taking advantage of a fantastic film's fanbase, there wouldn't be as much 'lol flop' going around but instead it's been described as a non-event and possibly a gyp from the people who trusted him when he said it was awesome. The designer bit off more than he can chew and eventually ended up vomiting all over his fans.

They shouldn't have released a public beta

And why not? It was their choice to allow us to experience 4 out of 5 maps, even when they aren't working 100%. They could've just let us play the 1st level and left it at that, and none of you would be whining.

They gave us their word that they would like to have something available around Halloween and they stuck to it. Do you all think because it's crashing/buggy/incomplete now means that it always will be? Of course not. The irrationality is mind boggling.

The real point is, this mod was heavily hyped and one of the most anticipated l4d mods in development and it came out being garbage. There are soooo many other mods made in less time, with nearly no publicity, and came out in a much better state than DBD in their first release. Also, The devs didn't get hundreds of dollars in donations out of them.

The only irrationality I can see is why they decided to release such an obviously unfinished and broken mod instead of just admitting that their release date was unrealistic and pushing it back. Maybe they felt like they owed something to the community for buying them a brand new computer, but couldn't they at least take a step back and realized that this isn't the best way to repay such generosity?

Yep. I'm going to call my upcoming L4D2 campaign Resident Evil even though it has nothing to do with it just to take advantage of the fanbase and make fucking bank in donations.

Damn, I wanted this so bad. Got it and within minutes the game crashed on me. Reading other messages I see that I am not the only one experiencing these problems. I also get these crashes on my laptop and when playing on Windows XP 32bit, Windows Vista 32bit and Windows 7 64bit.

Also I can assure you this is not something to do with my specifacations of my computer. I could see this happening with my laptop but my computer is powerful enough to run things like Crysis and ArmaII on full, let alone Left 4 Dead.
