Dawn of Victory Storyline Trailer 2
Jul 05, 2009 Trailers 1 commentIn the second part of the trilogy, the human nations rebuild after the devastating Scinfaxi War, and take to the stars.
Dawn of Victory (DoV) is a modification currently under development by Slipstream Productions for the RTS Sins of a Solar Empire. Dawn of Victory is a total conversion, replacing the game's original assets with completely new and diverse ships, structures, and gameplay elements. Dawn of Victory pits players as one of 3 intergalactic superpowers: the Democratic Federation, Greater German Reich, and the Soviet Union. These three factions wage war amongst themselves even as a greater threat, the Scinfaxi, threaten them all.
While Dawn of Victory started out loosely based on Harry Turtledove’s “Worldwar” and “Colonization” book series, since then, the backstory has expanded to the point where it has taken on a life of its own.
For centuries an alien race known as the Scinfaxi had been the dominant power in the Orion region of space, their slow but steady expansion brought them into contact with dozens of other races, each one conquered and exterminated to provide the resources and material necessary to support the continually expanding empire.
In the 14th century, the first Scinfaxi probes reached Earth: it was surveyed, catalogued, and the plans were meticulously laid for its capture and assimilation. However, the Scinfaxi concept of time was very different from humanity's, and so when the first ships of the conquest fleet arrived in 1943, they were stunned to see Terran society had progressed to an industrial state in an unimaginable sliver of time. The initial landings took humanity by surprise, as the Scinfaxi advanced upon every continent.
It was in this darkest hour that what once divided humanity now brought it together, as the old prejudices were put aside and every free nation on Earth united against the alien aggressors. The tide turned in 1945 when the Soviet Union detonated an atomic bomb on its own soil, destroying a Scinfaxi landing site.
With the total conquest of Earth impossible without destroying everything of value, the Scinfaxi retreated to the Southern hemisphere, content with half the planet. Decades went by with no contact from the Scinfaxi, but as humanity grew bolder, the aliens' plans accelerated. As spacecraft from the last free nations made landfall, and eventually colonized new worlds, the Scinfaxi slowly began to advance. City after city was lost until, in a final act of desperation, the various Terran factions agreed to pursue a literal "scorched earth" policy, sacrificing their remaining positions to nuclear bombardment and quarantining the planet.
Humanity has expanded to the stars, and dozens of planets and moons now belong to the remaining Terran nations. There has been almost no contact with the Scinfaxi, and the former nations of Earth have become so complacent with their apparent safety that the old prejudices have returned and they once again war amongst themselves. The Scinfaxi are still expanding however, and it is only a matter of time before they decide to stamp out the potential usurpers; if humanity is allowed to advance another hundred years, it may be human soldiers landing on Scinfaxi worlds. The dawn of victory is approaching: the only question is which side will claim it.

I’m going to start this news post with a bit of information out of character. Since its creation, Dawn of Victory has been hosted at Slipstream Productions, however recently, we decided it would be in the best interest of the mod if we moved to a new independent host.
The biggest, and hopefully best change as a result of this move, is that we have set up some brand new, feature filled forums, totally devoted to both Dawn of Victory, and the universe behind it.
Our wiki has also been transferred over and updated, and I’m happy to say that every article has survived the move. If you haven’t taken a look at yet, I encourage you to follow any of the links in the news post below and take a look at the wealth of content that has been created by both our staff, and fans of the mod.
Finally, I invite you all to join our new forums and take part in the community. Over the coming weeks you will have the opportunity to interact with members of our staff and community and help shape the future of the Dawn of Victory Universe.
Comrade Sokolovsky,
The involvement of Battlefleet Germania and the invasion of Vega has severely tipped the strategic situation in favour of the Greater German Reich, and escalates this conflict into a caliber not seen since the Second Scinfaxi War.

While we have made steady progress on Orson and Galleria, our defence of Tanarsus has been hampered by increased German activity in the system. The deployment of crack German troops and equipment on Tanarsus is more than the local nation states can handle. Our puppet states, the Peoples Republic of Ashlind, Sygrabado Provinces, and the Kingdom of Opalia, have all suffered tremendous losses: estimates put the capitulation of Sygrabado and Ashlind within five months and Opalia within seven to eight.

If we are to maintain control of these nation-states I recommend we deploy the 207th Guards Tank Division, the 12th Shock Troops, and the 160th Motor-Rifle division. I have talked with Front Marshal Konev and he and I both agree that to support such a move we would need to commit elements of the Kiev and Resik Battlegroups.

The situation on Vega is no less troubling, Battlefleet Germania is comprised of some of the best crews in the Kriegsmarine, and supposedly was carrying a number of Waffen-SS Divisions. The New Weimar Volksmarine is estimated to have suffered roughly 76% casualties: only a single squadron wasn’t in orbit over Vega at the time, and it is only comprised of 57 ships.
Sevastopol Class Fleet Carrier
It is my opinion that we withhold any further assistance to the New Weimar Republic. If they can withstand the GGR for approximately 4 months, we should have the 1st Leningrad Fleet in position to deliver a devastating counterattack. The Democratic Federation has condemned the invasion of Vega, but I doubt they will deliver any serious assistance, especially now that there relations are so strained with both the Japanese and Tawhid.

I will be meeting with STAVKA later today to discuss the finer details of our response, with your approval of course.

I cannot wait for this mod, I actually read through your news reports, because I like this mods Mythos.
Cannot wait to start playing, keep up the good work! 8D
I've been whatching this mod seince January, and I think this is the healthiest looking sins mod I can see. keep up the good work!
i must say that the ships designs ive seen so far are some of the best looking ships ive ever seen especially the odessa class dreadnought cant wait for this to be released :)
Is it for the "normal" Sins of a Solar Empire or the addon (entrenchemnt (something like this ;))
The first release will be for regular Sins, but subsequent releases will most likely be for entrenchment
Wow, you are making the best mod for "sins", must buy the game just for it!
I know that you must have heard this a thousand times but are there any information about a release date? I just mean something like, erm, is it just a couple of weeks, some months, half a year, a year or later?
We can't give out any information on that. Our update schedule is sometimes a clue into how fast we're moving, but it's quite indirect. Remember that while this game officially came out a year ago it was not until May or June that substantial modding could be done. We weren't even a blip on the radar for a long time, and since we are doing a no-holds-barred total conversion which means new sounds, maps, etc as well as gameplay and models it feels like a long time but this is really the norm for a TC (in fact many FPS mods that do much less take a year and a half or two years)
I have said on the Sins forums that a release date or even vague estimate is only possible to give if you're naive, twelve, or 98% done. There's always stuff that pops up and on the flipside work that gets done ahead of schedule. Once closed beta begins we will be able to say something solid. I know it's painful not to hear anything but like I said above I don't know either.
Yeah, I know what you mean (our own mod should be released a year ago and we're still working on it^^). But thank you for your answer and i hope that it'll take not too much time.
Thanks a lot! I really look forward to the mod and keep up the good work! (And i've read Harry Turtledove!)
