Darkest Hour: Normandy 1944 is a modification for red orchestra. It will focus on the normandy campaign in 1944 and will not only cover the landings and airborne drops of the 6th of June 1944 but it will also include the epic large scale tank battles that took place in the later stages of the campaign. We have finally released Beta 1.0 of this mod and your opinions and suggestions are important to us so please post them on our forums.

Description

This map is an adaptation by Darkest Hour (mod of RedOrchestra) of the famous map of "Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill30". I tried to recreate faithfully, but I have also made changes and additions to make it a fun multiplayer map and balanced. Current version: Foucarville_beta2a

Important: this map needed some content of Kolno_beta3 map of FlashPanHunter. If you do not have them, dont worry, this archive have this packages (courtesy to Plattfuss). Send me an PM if you have doubts and help you happy.

Historical Background

On 6 June 1944 in Normandy, the 502nd Parachutist Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division had to capture the battery of Saint-Martin-de-Varreville, and to control two exits of Utah Beach. Droped far away from their target, the 502nd Regiment paras walked more than two hours to reach their objective. They discovered the battery had been destroyed by the allied bombings. N°4 exit of Utah Beach was under German shelling, N°3 exit was taken at daybreak. The Commander of the 1st Battalion set up his headquarter in Saint-Martin-de-Varreville. In the afternoon the Americans destroyed a German column near Beuzeville-au-Plain, before liberating the town. Entrenched in Foucarville, the parachutists resisted all day long to German assaults, and made many prisoners.

This in a very brief summary of the shares prior to the clash of Foucarville. If we want more data on the development of the battle entered the link below (28 onwards), courtesy of Lt. Stephenson

Description
Map of attack-defense. The Allies must capture enemies points to win. The Axis must defend these points. You must first attacked "Foucarville Junction" in the western part of the map. Once caught, it must turn northward to capture the "Church" and keep it for a few minutes. But be careful, Germans can recapture "Church" at any time.

The flanking tactics are vital in this map. Allies and Axis can flank the enemy to prevent their coverage and intersect their spawns. The rifle must cover the long streets, while the submachine gun supported by machine guns covering the flanks. Every coverage has a flank uncovered, so that no position is invurnerable. Only sergeants have grenades, so it is necessary to create groups to eliminate the enemy fire while another assault team around him.

In conclusion, if I find any fault or have some suggestion on the map (constructive and destructive) please post in this topic so you can fix it. Among all improve the map to make it a fun battlefield.

Thanks, Ravelo
