This project aims to recreate the levels and playing experience of the LucasArts game Dark Forces using the modern 3D engine found in the game Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy.

We will be re-creating all 14 levels found in the original game and bringing them into the 21st century.

Given the capabilities of the modified Quake 3 engine this project is very exciting indeed. Weapons, enemies and models will be re-created aswell as other features of the original game.

Soon you'll be playing Dark Forces with gorgeous visuals, brilliant effects and fantastic playability!

  • As Kyle Katarn, mercenary and agent of the Rebel Alliance, infiltrate the secret Imperial base to steal the plans for the Death Star and travel to distant locations as you track down clues to unravel the mystery of the Dark Trooper.
  • Choose wisely from an arsenal of weapons including Bryar Pistol, Imperial Blaster, Thermal Detonator, Imperial Repeater, Fusion Cutter, Anti-personnel Mines, Mortar Gun, Concussion Rifle, and the Dark Trooper Assault Cannon.
  • Test your skills in 14 greatly enhanced missions
  • Interact with legendary Star Wars characters such as Storm Troopers, Imperial Commandos, Gammorean Guards, Dianogas, Boba Fett, Grans, Trandoshans, Jabba the Hutt, Kell Dragons, and of course all 3 iterations of the fearsome Dark Trooper.
  • Hear the original music exactly as the composer intended.
  • Powered by a modified version of the widely acclaimed Quake 3: Team Arena engine, you'll enjoy the game as never before with high resolution graphics, hardware accelerated performance, true 3D environments, stunning sound and music effects, and in-engine cutscenes which complete the entire 14 mission story.

The Dark Forces Mod for Jedi Academy, winner of Mod of the Year 2003 is preparing to release the long awaited "Second Demo" for JA. The demo will include the first six levels of the old Lucas Arts classic "Dark Forces." Release date is planned in time for Spring Break. Visit for more news and screenshots.

Thats good to hear and i didnt find your site here i found it on and was redirected here by your website(i didnt even know there was a mod database)you should really put up some kind of simple text about your project on your page. also will you using FMV or in-game for the cutscenes?

Well as you have discovered our mod here, it is understandable you have your doubts. We are not dead as some people seem to think, as the website has been down for about a month. And there aren't 2 of us, there are over 20 of us :)

When the site is up on the new site all of your concerns and worries are answered in detail in our FAQ. The general idea of this mod was NOT to re-make Dark Forces as it was originally but to add and bring it up to today's standards WHEREVER possible! Trust me, this is being taken very seriously. The whole team are Dark Forces veterans and know EXACTLY what the Dark Forces community want, and also how to attract new gamers. Sure, the story won't change but it will be a much more realistic and scary gameplay experience.

I don't want to spoil things for you - but hopefully when you download our upcoming demo, you'll see what we mean. But the demo is meerly a taster of what is to come. Suffice to say you will be terrified the first time you meet a Dark Trooper. This is the Dark Forces of today...

now to begin with i dont really like bashing on things i dont really know alot about BUT, i really would like this mod to flourish (seeing how it is that i was hooked on dark forces and it was a major game that brought me to pc gaming) heres were some of the bashing comes in. form what you guys have written (im hoping its not just 2 of you at this point) it sounds like your just going to slap around 3d whever there isnt call it a remake or update to the original. now dont get me wrong i liked the first game as i said above but if you are going to do what i said, THEN WHAT MAKES YOU THINK PEOPLE ARE GOING TO PLAY IT? how many times have we seen this before in entertainment? Millions. how many times has it worked? almost NEVER(resident evil for GC is one exception). anyone who has played DF(and finished) will most likely download to check it out, but after they play through the exact same levels with the exact same story he/she(the gamer) will most likely bow his/her head in sorrow and move on to the next mod. what was Great the first time is not great the second. Some say modding/game creation is a form of art, i believe this. but if you decide to go through with above you will ruin this belief for everyone. TAKE HEED AND MAKE THIS GAME APART OF YOU, GIVE IT A NEW BREATH OF FRESH AIR, AND MOST IMPORTANT BE CREATIVE & HAVE FUN(cuz whats the point if your not?). remember you have the weight of the DF fandom on your shoulders.
