Daedalus is a science fiction mod set in 2135. In the single-player game, one assumes the role of Alex Calveres, the captain of a deep-space exploration vessel with a motley crew of characters that are different in every sense but work together well. An employee for the Orion Federal Conglomorate, Alex was told to break his usual schedule of exploration and patrol to deliver a government package to a research facility in a distant star system. The single-player story begins on Earth where you are told of your unusual mission, when you arrive at the station you discover that a horrible and sinister catastrophy has occured, and the station is adrift in a now devastated star system, you travel over to the stricken station to investigate and what you find out ends up throwing one's character into a search for answers and truth. Here is the first screen of the Grange Research
Station. Take a good look coz this station
(according to our story) has been nearly
destroyed, so now I have to go away and make it
look severly damaged. Its based loosely on CLuvers
sky corridoor concept art. Progress is slow on the
MOD but where moving in the right direction.
Hopefully The intro level and the first few
sections of the grange station should be done by
Feb 1st.
Nice-tastic.
Very nice for a hl mod :D
lookin good
As you can see the polygon count for daedulus maps is going to be quite high. but i thought that might be ok as its 2004 and the average system now runs at around 1.2 GHz anyway.
You should still aim to keep r_speeds low.
It's not the polycount and the system computer that matters, its a matter if the engine can even handle the amount of polygons in a given scene. If it can't, it will choke on even the beefiest of computers.
Obviously, By high poly count i mean in the sense that you will need at least an agp 3d card to play the game (software mode wont play it good enough), at a decent frame rate. I dont intend to go as high as to choke the engine. However your point is valid and i have taken note.
That section of the map doesn't have SO MANY polygons, it has a lot, I'll say about 1000 in w_poly's, and I think 1300 of the new HL max r_speed... :D
SO Nice map!
