It's June 6th, D-day!

This year marks the 69th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, it's also the 11th year that D-day has been in development. But more importantly it's the 1st anniversary of D-day's public release. To celebrate all these anniversaries I'm proud to announce the release of version 3.7 of D-day.

Download D-day v3.7

The last year has seen a lot of work done to D-day, many bugs have been fixed, improvements to the game play, updated graphics & over 100 new units!

The main addition to v3.7 is the inclusion of Hungary as a new playable country, with 47 new buildings & units, most of which have never been seen in a WW2 game, or even mod before.

America has also been split into two sub faction, the Army & Marine Corps. Playing as the Army gives you units most commonly seen in the European theater, choosing the Marine Corps though lets you play using units from the Pacific war.

There are also four new maps to play on all of which are based on real life locations:

First is the map of Berlin which has gone through several iterations over the last decade, each one more detailed & accurate then the last. This one being the first to reach a playable state, it is however still a work in progress & is missing a few things, which will be added in the next beta.

Staying in Europe the second map is based on Arnhem which most will know from Operation Market Garden, where British paratroops held the bridge single handily against German forces for over a week!

Next is the first Pacific themed map to be added to D-day, Wake Island. This tiny spot of land in the middle of the Pacific Ocean was attacked just after the bombing of Pearl Harbour & after two weeks of fighting fell to Japanese forces.

Lastly is D-day's first desert map the Suez Canal. Even though no fighting ever took place around this vital water way it was one of Erwin Rommels main objectives during the North Africa campaign. The British managed to stop him though & then go on to defeat the German forces in Africa.

Unfortunately there are a few things that didnt make it into this beta too:

Naval warfare is still a work in progress & isn't included in this release, several sides are still missing the ships needed for all sides to be balanced.

Superweapons are also still not available, The majority of the code is done but they still require a lot more artwork before they are finished.

The capture point system that I recently posted about isn't complete either, it will take some more time to code all the AI scripts necessary to make them use the cap points efficiently.

Just one minor detail that I noticed is that the blue planes sitting in front of the hangars should have a shadow under them.

Other than that, Dude, this really looks like a finished indie game.

Why are you always so critical of everything? All you've done for three years since I last paid any attention to moddb is make petty criticisms.

Mig Eater made D-Day by himself, yes there are derivative works because hand-drawing pixel art is incredibly time consuming and although he's managed to do enough for half a dozen complete factions, terrain for at least two map types (IIRC a temperate and urban set of tilesets at least) and many buildings, his time is not limitless. You know what you haven't seen? The several hundred unit models he hand-built (including painting the normals for lighting), the hand drawn pixel graphics of the previously mentioned structures, and the other tilesets, all visible at Dday.migeater.net

What have you achieved? I don't know. I honestly can't find out, your moddb profile links to a bunch of old mods that are frankly embarrassingly bad (one 'realistic item names and double carry weight' STALKER mod, some HL2 project made of cut content, the list goes on) and though I vaguely remember something about some 'Wilson Chronicles' there's not much to show for it anywhere.

You know what they say, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones, my friend.

Desert building from Blitzkrieg : Image.jeuxvideo.com

And here : Image.jeuxvideo.com

And others building from always the same game called Blitzkrieg : File-extensions.org

And now, its true ?

Yes, it is true. I was not disagreeing. However, the way you chose to say this was dismissive and ill-informed. This is strange, as D Day is (over) 10 years old and (at least in the Red Alert 2 community) is rather well known.

I have often publicly stated that I've used some graphics from Blitzkrieg, so this is nothing new to people who have followed D-day closely. I've even shared these assets with several other mods who where happy to use them as well.

Saying "A lot of things" tho is exaggerating, out of seven thousand or so additions to D-day only about 5% originated from Blitzkrieg. Some of it such as the buildings might be more noticeable but over all it's a rather small amount. Which is also getting smaller as I replace them with my own artwork.

Now I understand why you use buildings and others props from others games. Good luck :)

Look at all these details. So many units, faction. So much scenery for every theater. This is what i call a total conversion. And i really really hope they will port it to openra. This enthusiasm needs to be made in an own game. Keep on rocking!

Still though, what's up with transport helicopter speed?
It's like... An overlord, yea, no wait, it's slower than an overlord...
Is there a reason behind this or what?
Also, 1v1 marine-usa/hungary, the camo is just so annoying, hungary has no detection and no artillery and needs to fly bombers and randomly bomb places in hopes of finding camo, then you need to find the center of the camo so that you can destroy it.

The camouflage net isn't meant to be buildable, it was a test to see how a stealth system would work in D-day. As you said tho it's annoying & I thought I'd removed it for the game.

A patch will be released later this week fixing this, as well as a few other issues.
