To tell the truth, we’ve been working on the project since January but didn’t hurry to announce anything, let alone to reopen the project’s profile. We were in a very unstable situation, and our work could stop right after it started. But now, when the project is 20% ready and the working process has been arranged (although it is slightly worse than before), we have decided that it’s time for CUBE to come back to ModDB.

However, despite things are getting better and better, we still won’t talk about correct forecasts and exact release dates. Otherwise we will feel very uncomfortable if the main working computer breaks down AGAIN… You probably remember that the machine we work on now is rather bad, and its technical characteristics can be compared with those of… a cobblestone! (By the way, it proves that Source Engine will work, though badly, even on a granite block.)

And now we have to switch from the cheerful speeches to a small, but unpleasant news. Unfortunately, considering the technical condition of the studio after all the losses and difficulties, we think that CUBE will be the last project of AASC. We're glad to receive plenty of positive feedback but also do understand that it can't be compared with the efforts put in the work… So after release of CUBE we are likely to lack both financial and technical resources to continue our activities. Moreover, the winds of change that blow into the lives of main AASC developers don't contribute to effective work.

02 Welcome Back

On the other hand, it is just prediction about the distant and uncertain future; who knows whether it will come true? At the moment the main thing is to finish CUBE.

We hope that there will be no more force majeur events in the development process and that we will be able to recover and not to disappoint our audience.

We thank those few people who remained with us and did not lose faith in our work despite all the miseries we’ve faced.

Рано или поздно это должно было случиться, и вот этот долгожданный момент настал. Модификация CUBE – некогда дебютный проект студии AASC – наконец-то возвращается обратно на ModDB!

Если быть честным, то работы над самим проектом были возобновлены ещё после нового года, но мы не спешили что-либо публиковать на эту тему и уж тем более заново открывать страницу проекта, так как в тот момент у нас была очень шаткая ситуация. В любой момент всё могло закончиться, так толком и не начавшись.
Нынче, когда процент готовности проекта вновь достиг 20%, а сам процесс работы был кое-как налажен (хоть он теперь и похуже, чем раньше), мы приняли решение постепенно возвращать проект обратно на ModDB.

Тем не менее, несмотря на то, что ситуация вроде бы устоялась, мы по-прежнему не будем давать каких-либо точных прогнозов насчёт выпуска проекта… А то будет потом неудобно, если у нас ОПЯТЬ сломается компьютер и всю работу придётся свернуть. Напомним, что нынче нам приходится работать на очень, очень плохом оборудовании, которое своими техническими характеристиками сравнимо разве что… с булыжником. (Но зато доказывает тот факт, что Source Engine будет, хотя и плохо, работать даже на куске гранита.)

А теперь, несмотря на изначальный бодрящий тон – одна маленькая, но плохая новость. К сожалению, ввиду ужасного технического состояния студии после всех тех невзгод, что она пережила, проект CUBE станет нашей последней работой. Надо сказать, что обратная полезная отдача от наших работ… пускай, может, и положительная, но в целом по своим объемам по сравнению с тем, что мы вкладываем… В общем, после выпуска мода CUBE нам будет больше невыгодно этим заниматься, так как у нас больше нет на это средств – ни финансовых, ни технических. Да и текущая эпоха перемен в жизни участников основного состава студии мало способствует нашей деятельности.

02 Welcome Back

С другой стороны, это тоже прогноз на далёкое неопределённое будущее, и не факт, что он сбудется. Сейчас главное – доделать мод CUBE.

Мы надеемся, что очередных непредвиденных ситуаций более с нами не приключится и мы сможем хоть как-то реабилитировать себя в глазах тех, кто следит за проектом, и частично вернуть свои утраченные позиции.

Спасибо тем немногочисленным людям, которые продолжали оставаться с нами и верить в нашу работу несмотря на все невзгоды, с которыми мы сталкивались.

As long as everyone doesn't get all hung up on arguing the finer details of attempting to cross-reference and integrate two historical time lines, it's a great concept and looks quite promising. Tracking along.

Sorry but you're wrong. The letter sent to Gordon Freeman, which appeared in the official manual when HL was first released, was dated May 5, 200-. (i.e. sometime between 2000 and 2009. The resonance cascade occured 10 days later on the 15th.

Well there's more than that. There's the Half Life saga timeline guide which can be found here which also states that the cascade took place between 2000 and 2009, most likely based on the same information.
The writer for the Half Life series has said that the information on the site is accurate or by quote: "Pretty damn accurate".

If we go by the conventional and official Half life Timeline it would be between those 10 years. Nothing stopping you from creating alternate universes though Stephen :). But if you want to keep it canon, then it needs to be adjusted.

When VALVe were developing Half-Life 1, they didn't want to state the year of Black Mesa Incident. They just put it into the first decade of 21st century. But before releasing Portal 2 they had written on aperturescience.com that GLaDOS first activation (and XEN invasion) was in 1998. Strange facts, but they're real.

It doesn't say in the Portal 2 wiki that the resonance cascade begun that same day. It says Black Mesa successfully opened a portal to Xen. During the game you come across several instances showing that research on Xen has gone on for some time before the cascade takes place.

For Example, in blue shift you come across a permanent research station on Xen. In Opposing Force you come across a room where the scientists have tried to detach a barnacle from the roof (where you get the barnacle as a weapon). In Blue shift you also come across frozen Vortigaunts in containers.

These are all things that would take some time to work out. Maybe not 2+ years, but most definately more than a couple of hours :)
