Hello.

I am E-40 - the leader of AASC studio, author and the lead developer of such projects as CUBE and OTHER-LIFE: Hatch 18.

Those who monitor our activity for a long time are used to the fact that any news here is usually published on behalf of the whole studio; however, today I am speaking for myself - and I think you will understand why.

I have to announce that I am leaving the modding industry - cannot say for how long, unfortunately. It must be mentioned that I give up my work on CUBE and Hatch 18 against my own will. There is a reason of such radical decision, and it is rather trivial...

A week ago I faced problems with the computer which I use to work on my projects. Visit to a service centre proved that these technical problems are very serious. The computer simply doesn't work, and as it was the only computer which had the technical characteristics necessary for development, I don't have an opportunity to continue my work on mods.

I hasten to tell you, however, that archived materials for CUBE and Hatch 18 were not harmed, and their latest copies are stored on the external hard drives. Nothing is lost - and that is good news.

But at the moment I don't have any reserve working machine that could be used to continue work. I do not have money to repair the old computer or to buy a new one, either. Recently I had to spend rather big sums, and I am not expecting huge profit until the end of 2014 - that is bad news.

I was trapped in a banal, but unpleasant situation: all my projects are okay and no materials were lost, but I cannot work with them in the near future because of the reasons described above.

Because all the AASC work heavily relies on me, that means a stop in the work of the whole studio and closing/freezing of its
projects.

If that wretched computer had broken down earlier, in the summer, I would have managed to solve the problem with its repair or even purchase of the new machine - but the things have coincided in a really unlucky way. That is why I think that I should temporarily leave modding and close the projects - not to give airy promises to the people who are waiting. Surely, I will do everything in my power to solve the problem and return some time in the future, but I can't guarantee anything.

I ask everyone who kept an eye on the work of my studio to be understanding and to refrain from unnecessary comments. Both you and me had high hopes for the release of CUBE V3, but "force majeur" occurred too fast and suddenly (especially for me). I am not excited about the new prospects, but I do not have much choice in this situation.

I am sorry if this announcement has been a disappointment for you.

Я Е-40 – лидер студии AASC, автор и главный разработчик таких проектов, как CUBE и OTHER-LIFE: Hatch 18. Все те, кто давно следит за нашей деятельностью, уже привыкли, что обычно любая новость, публикуемая здесь, представляется не от лица одного конкретного человека, а от всей студии AASC в целом, но в этот раз формат вещания немного изменён. Сегодня я пишу только от своего имени – и, думаю, вы поймете, почему.

Я бы хотел сообщить, что нынче отхожу от дел. То есть полностью ухожу из модостроительства. На какой срок, сам пока не знаю. Скажу сразу, что прекращаю я работу над проектами CUBE и Hatch 18 вопреки своему желанию. Что же стало причиной столь радикального решения, я постараюсь пояснить ниже.

А причина, на первый взгляд, до банальности проста.
Неделю назад я снова столкнулся с неполадками компьютера, на котором обычно и делаю все свои работы. Как показал поход в мастерскую, сами неполадки очень серьёзные, и они именно технического характера. Самый простой результат, вытекающий из этого – компьютер просто не работает, а следовательно, мне не на чем продолжить работу над модами, ибо такой компьютер, своими техническими параметрами удовлетворяющий необходимым в работе требованиям, был всего один.

Но спешу заявить, что архивы по проектам CUBE и Hatch 18 никак не пострадали, и их самые последние копии лежат на съёмных жёстких дисках. Ничего не утеряно – это хорошо.

Но на данный момент у меня нет никакого запасного рабочего «железа», на котором бы можно было продолжить работу. Как, собственно, и нет денег на починку или покупку нового компьютера, потому что у меня и так совсем недавно были довольно большие затраты, а крупных денежных средств не предвидится как минимум до конца текущего 2014-го года – это плохо.

Я оказался в той банальной, но одновременно и не очень хорошей ситуации, когда вроде бы все мои проекты целы и ничего не потерялось, но мне буквально не на чем продолжить свою работу, и выйду я из этого положения ещё очень нескоро, по уже вышеописанным причинам.
Так как на мне вся работа в AASC и держится, то мой долгий выход из работы над модами влечёт за собой и выход из работы всей студии, с последующим закрытием/замораживанием самих проектов.
Если бы этот несчастный компьютер сломался раньше, ещё летом, то я бы смог решить вопрос с его починкой или даже покупкой нового – а так всё совпало крайне неудачно. Поэтому я и считаю, что мне будет лучше уйти на время из модоиндустрии и закрыть все проекты, дабы не давать ожидающим пустых обещаний. Я, конечно, постараюсь сделать всё от меня зависящее, чтобы решить проблему и когда-нибудь вернуться снова, но точно я ничего обещать не стану, особенно в плане сроков.

Всех, кто когда-то следил за работой моей студии, прошу отнестись к сложившейся ситуации с пониманием и воздержаться от излишних комментариев. И вы, и я одинаково возлагали надежды на грядущий выход CUBE V3, но беда случилась слишком быстро и внезапно, особенно для меня. Я не очень-то в восторге от такой перспективы, но ввиду сложившихся обстоятельств я не волен выбирать.
Простите, если я кого-то разочаровал.

It's been at 23% for a while now. I'd hate to see this mod fall into nothingness as time goes on. I had a great amount of fun with the latest version of CUBE and praised it highly for it combining elements from everywhere and blending them all seamlessly. I can only hope that V3 will have the same splendor that V2 had.

Also...spoiler alert, the anti-cheat thing could be bypassed...you'll know what I mean. :/

I just finished V2, and I have to say... As much as I liked the first half, and the attention to detail, the final acts were more frustrating than difficult.

The puzzles really lacked visual cues (the fuse parts were especially tedious), control was finicky in segments like the ventilation shaft, and the lack of explanation for the player character's memories -- or who he was for that matter -- particularly frustrated me. :/

Specifically, some puzzles started feeling very cut-and-paste. I think you should cut down on some sequences and puzzles, maybe less of the same mechanic? I think there's a reason Portal, for instance, only kept a specific mechanic for a few tests -- to reduce this sort of fatigue.

I know this seems very negative, but in the end, I DID like the mod! I just feel like it was very rough in the second half, and needed a bit more playtesting and feedback.

Also I think the difficult final part so much that I started using cheats in some parts. Now on the memories of the character can be further hatch in 18 maybe
