Cthulhu is a single-player modification for Half-Life.
It contains 65 maps, 21 new monsters and 14 new weapons.

Aeons ago, Earth was ruled by The Great Old Ones, beings so alien and terrible that merely seeing them would drive most people mad. Before man's ancestors climbed down from the trees, these being were defeated in a war with The Elder Gods.
But their alien nature meant that they could not be slain in any way that we would understand, so they were imprisoned.
And so they wait, patient and potent until the stars are right and they shall walk forth once again and wipe mankind from the face of the Earth.
You play Ranulf Stafford, an occult investigator in Arkham in the year 1928. Drawn into a nightmare chain of events, you find yourself the only thing standing between mankind and the return of Cthulhu, one of the most dreadful of The Great Old Ones.

So far, this mod has been extremely enjoyable and equally challenging. However, I seem to be stuck. When I enter the alley at the beginning of "The Mob" chapter, a movie starts to play but the only thing that comes out of the tunnel is a floating wall. It looks like a large black rectangle. I'm guessing that the sprites are messed up and it's supposed to be a car, but after it goes offscreen, the game stays in the movie perspective and you just hear the NPCs talking back and forth. I'm running the game in Steam. Any suggestions?

Just to remind everyone, the mod comes with a Walkthrough, so if you get stuck, have a look in there!

Also, I am working on a sequel (using Half-Life 2), which is listed here at ModDB.com and is hosted at cthulhu2.loke.be. This one will be a direct sequel, starting where this mod finishes and I am developing it as part of a team (no longer a one-man show). Loke is my main partner in crime and has done an excellent website and is doing the 3D modelling (which was never my strong point).

For a single person to have made an entire mod by himself, he does deserve some credit. The level design is good, though the game crashes at a few places, but by large I give this mod a big thumbs up!!!

@ donuts_ftw : to truely apreciate this mod, you have to look at it as a whole from it's development. Granted the MOD was made for an old Engine that is Crude if compaired to the new engines we have and some of the even more new engines comming out very soon (IE: Unreal Engine 3.0 the Engine Gears of War was built on.)

Most Mod projects are built by teams of like minded people all for teh same goal. and often times the level visual desing suffers becuase everyone has a diffrent vision of what the world should look like. Here we find a single man for teh most part built and coded the game all my himself. following the general storyline HP Lovecraft Layied out before the world. Being a Lovecraft Fan myself. I see the connections of the storyline as a finely done. There are times that He had to depart from the story lines to get then to Combind with each other. but i can see elements from all my favorite Lovecraft Shorts. Some not even mentioned in title or in credits. Lurking Fear for one. It's starts from the moment you dig up a grave and fall in to get into the tunnels below the black church. that neighter got Credit in insiration of the Modder or in the titles in the game, but I instantly reconized it as Lurking Fear, as will a lot of other Lovecraft Fans wil I'm sure.

This I can tell you is not small feat to pull off for one man. Even with a relitively crude Engine that the original half-Life is.

Yes he took alot of the content from other games. Even he says so. but bringing them togather and making sure they are textured and modified to look much the same way to blend with each other in an exceptable manner, must have been difficult work.

Now I'm not saying the game looks, feels and runs perfectly. I'm currently STUCK myself with yet another glitch in the Yith City just after you open up the Lazer Room doors. going back down the hallway to wards the other end of teh city seems to crash my engine. I'm going to try it with STEAM to see if that helps it out any.

If one man can make 65 maps, 21 new monsters and 14 new weapons all work togather as one game in this labor of love. Why knock him for not being upto Next Gen standards?

Well that my two cents...
