CstDoom3 version 1.0 has been released. CstDoom3 is a gameplay mod for Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil (RoE). The new features, all of which are optional (except for bug fixes), are:

Grabber and Double Barrel Shotgun in Doom 3: The Grabber and the Double Barrel Shotgun from RoE can be used in the Doom 3 campaign. These two weapons can be found in Mars City Underground, Hell, and Delta 5. Note: This feature is available only if RoE is installed.

Chainsaw in RoE: The Chainsaw from Doom 3 can be used in the RoE campaign. This weapon is easily found in the beginning of the game (Erebus 1).

Show Access Codes: When you interact with a GUI that requires an access code (like a locker keypad), a window magically appears in the HUD showing the code you need to enter. Useful if you are tired of searching for access codes in PDA messages and audio logs.

Access Codes

Additional Key Layers: The keyboard and mouse keys have additional virtual layers to which commands, buttons, and impulses can be bound. This means that the same key can perform different actions depending on which layer is active. The configuration examples included with the mod, for instance, use this feature to create a new weapon selection mode. It requires two key presses, but only keys that are "right below the fingers" are used. This means you can select directly the weapon you want without looking at the keyboard.

Headlamp: The new player headlamp can be turned on/off whenever you want, and functions independently of the weapons. Useful if you want to shoot and see at the same time. Works in singleplayer (no restrictions) and multiplayer (requires server permission). The image below compares the Headlamp ON (left side) with the Headlamp OFF (right side).

Demigod: This is something between god mode and the actual gameplay. When demigod is on, your health and armor levels decrease as usual when taking damage, but your health never drops below 1 (so you never die).

Run Freely: The "always run" and "toggle run" functionalities are available in singleplayer, and stamina drop can be disabled.

Smoke Control: The muzzle smoke of any player weapon, as well as the fly smoke of any of their projectiles, can be switched off. Works in singleplayer (no restrictions) and multiplayer (requires server permission).

Damage Feedback Control: Any of the player's damage feedback mechanisms (double vision, tunnel vision, screen blobs, pain sounds, etc.) can be disabled. Works in singleplayer (no restrictions) and multiplayer (requires server permission).

Miscellaneous: Other assorted options are available. For instance, the Flashlight can be switched on/off in singleplayer, grabbed objects can be thrown with improved accuracy, and a dedicated channel can be used to echo messages to the screen.

Bug Fixes: A number of bugs in Doom 3 and RoE have been fixed, some of which are multiplayer related (see the included list of changes). Notice that bug fixes are not optional (except for an experimental multiplayer smoke fix).

Hidden Multiplayer Bonus: The Grabber and the BFG now work in multiplayer. These weapons, however, have not been added to the existing multiplayer maps, so you need to create your own mod if you want to use them in multiplayer (see the included manual for a way to do it).

Additional Notes:

  • CstDoom3 is for the original releases of Doom 3 and RoE (patched to version 1.3.1). It does not work with the BFG edition.
  • Only Windows binaries are provided. These should work from Vista onwards.
  • The complete source code is included. Compiling for Windows requires only Visual Studio 2015 (Community Edition is fine).

CstDoom3 v1.0 can be downloaded here in ModDB. Refer to the included manual for installation and usage instructions.

I'll take a look if it ever comes to BFG.
I'm not really interested in playing a 13-year-old game when there's a blatantly superior alternative.

BFG is not superior in any way or form, the original Doom 3 with sikkmod and the high rez texture packs, craps all over the BFG edition, also that edition is almost impossible to mod, if there's no mod's for it that is why, unless of course you force everyone to use a modified BFG engine like RBDOOM3-BFG to play your mod. But even tho you can do that plenty of fantastic doom 3 mods will not run on any BFG based engine.

• Sikkmod is a barrage of heavy-handed, amateurly-implemented, and unoptimised effects.
• RBDOOM3-BFG is a far better platform for implementing much more realistic, subtle, and beautiful effects, I don't know what this “force everyone” nonsense is about. The solution is there, ignore it if you want.
• BFG Edition has just as many high-res texture packs as the original.
• BFG being “almost impossible to mod” is not remotely true, there are plenty of mods for it, and many of them are direct copies of their vanilla Doom 3 counterparts. Moving them over is easy, don't blame the game just because the dev is too stubborn to support it.
• BFG Edition has professionally implemented surround-sound support, and far more importantly 120fps support, a massively important feature in a PC FPS game.

Your argument is supported by stubbornness, bias, and emotion,
not evidence.

Your argument is supported by a complete lack of experience in Doom 3 modding whatsoever. In fact your profile shows zero modding experience altogether. All those extra bells and whistles mean nothing to actual modders who want to add more then graphical enhancements to Doom 3.

My profile? *That's* what you go instead of evidence?
Well doesn't that speak volumes. Not even surprised.

Ok where's your evidence of your modding experience? Bring that to the table instead of trying to give me the run around.

By that logic you have to believe everything Donald Trump says because he's the president of the United States of America. Unfortunately that's just not good enough for me.
If you're going to blatantly tell me BFG is “almost impossible to mod” then I'm going to want some evidence.
You obviously think you're very clever, Mr. Modding Genius, so you show me your evidence that the open-sourced BFG code is as evil as you say.
If you've got nothing, then jog on.

Go play in the street. Obviously you have no clue what you're rambling on about. You want to port this over to the BFG edition? Do it yourself or shut up about it.

Well you must have supported Killary Clinton and the retarded Democratic Party, because like them you simply side stepped the opportunity to lay down actual evidence to prove your case and you did not. Instead you lowered yourself even further. You've never tried anything with Doom 3 or Doom 3 BFG so therefore your opinion of which one is best for modding is irrelevant. Arl. said it best.

“Well you must have supported Killary Clinton and the retarded Democratic Party”.
Well there's really nothing I could say that could possibly make you look any more stupid at this point. I think you've covered it pretty well.

Still no evidence to prove why anybody should listen to you. Just name calling. I'll leave you alone now.

Actually it was you that stuck to the claim that BFG is “almost impossible to mod”.
I merely asked for evidence, and you couldn't produce any, so in an act of sheer pettiness started to attack my profile instead.

My evidence is the dozens of existing mods it has, and the fact that BFG is totally open-sourced. But I get it, if you can't do it, it's impossible, right?
I can see why you're choosing now to run away. Pretending to know what you're talking about is difficult, huh?
Off you go kid, and take your little stories with you.

Dozens of mods? Ok where?

Doom 3 vanilla also open sourced. So your "BFG is totally open-sourced" comment is irrelevant.

Attacking your profile? No using your profile to show you have no idea what you're talking about. Safe space anyone?

Like I said already, Arl. said it best. BFG is unfriendly to modding because it was never intended to be modded like Doom 3 was.

Quit arguing like a typical ignorant liberal. I'm leaving this alone since you'll never admit being oblivious to this topic.

In fact fva go ahead and delete this whole unnecessary debate that's cramping your mod's comment section. I apologize for carrying on for so long with this mod user.

Oh I'm sorry, I thought you were leaving me alone. What happened skippy? I seem to have touched a nerve.
But it's alright, I'll school you again:
1. The UltimateHD mod for BFG by itself mods the weapons look, the particle affects, the projectiles, enemy appearance, reload mechanics, firing, enemy movement speed, complete texture overhaul, as well as RBDOOM3's soft shadows, HDR lighting, 120fps, and more. Everything you can do on vanilla and more. This is the part where you're objectively wrong :)
2. The fact that vanilla is open sourced means it's equal to BFG not “superior” as was mentioned. Also it means it's by definition not impossible to mod.
3. Using the fact that I have not posted any mods to my profile is not an argument. Neither is calling me a “liberal”. You'll learn all about it when you grow up. Maybe you could try calling me a “snowflake” next and see if that works any better. It's never won an argument before in human history, but you never know; today might be the day.
4. I can see why you'd like all record of how stupid you just made yourself look to be erased from the internet. Let's see if fva does you the favour.

BFG edition and the RBDOOM3 source port are more advanced engines technically, and all what Doom3 is capable BFG edition is also capable (which is also open source) and you can argue that is even more capable.

Now, regarding to Modding: As of yet, BFG edition is quite unfriendly to mod. It's not impossible or nearly impossible of course, but is much more limiting since you can't access the game data in readable formats and it has no build-in editor.

After you took the job of converting, let's say a map, to work with BFG edition, you'll find that your efforts resulted in a worst looking version of your mod, since BFG half-Lambert lighting destroys the atmospheric look in which the game was developed upon.

Maybe sikkmod is all what naryanrobinson said it is, but BFG edition has nothing like sikkmod yet, so parallax mapping, post processing effects, and all those graphics enhancements are only in Doom 3 for now.
