Welcome to today's CryRecon update and this time a feature on a give-away weapon download for both our supporters and the community at large. This may be old news to those who know us, but seeing as we are relatively new here on ModDB we thought now would be a good time to feature this for all those Crysis fans here.

The weapon in question is the infamous Barrett M107 sniper rifle and although this current release is in a beta stage, it is fully functional and ready for you to add to your Crysis arsenal, either for the singleplayer campaign or for inclusion in your own mods and maps. So please feel free to download your own copy of this weapon today using one of the links below.

FEATURES:

The rifle includes a number of features which should be of interest to varying styles of gameplay, these include but are not limited to:

  • 3 Custom Ammo Types [M33 BALL, M23 INCENDIARY, MK211 HEIAP]
  • Bullet Drop
  • Bullet Penetration
  • RealWorld Muzzle Velocity (853 mps)

INSTALL: Unrar and copy zzz_BarrettM107.pak to your Crysis/Game OR Crysis/Mods/ModName/Game directory

OR

Extract the contents of zzz_BarrettM107.pak to your Crysis/Game OR Crysis/Mods/Modname/Game directory. If you choose to extract the files please read the following**:

ALSO place game_text_messages.xml inside your Game/Localized/english.pak file. This enables the correct names for the ammunition and entities ingame. [BACKUP THE ORIGINAL BEFORE AND PLACE IT BACK INTO THE PAK FILE BEFORE PLAYING ONLINE OR YOU WILL GET KICKED BY PB WHEN PLAYING MULTIPLAYER!]

**IF EXTRACTING THE PAK YOU MIGHT WANT TO BACKUP THE FOLLOWING IF YOU HAVE CUSTOM VERSIONS OF THESE FILES:

  • ANIMATIONS.CBA IN THE ANIMATIONS FOLDER
  • MaterialEffects.xml IN THE LIBS/MATERIALEFFECTS FOLDER
  • game_text_messages.xml IN THE LOCALIZED/ENGLISH.pak FILE

SKINS: The M107 also comes with 2 skin varients: Black (wip) & Digital Woodland. You will need to extract the pak file to your game folder if you wish to change skins and do the following:

Look in Objects/Weapons/US/barrett_m107/texture. There are 2 folders, ORIGINALS and RESKINS, the ORIGINALS folder contains a backup copy of the original skin for ease and the RESKINS folder contains 2 folders BLACK and CAMO, just copy the dds files from one of the reskin folders into the barrett_M107/texture folder to switch skins. If you want the original skins back, just copy/paste the files from the ORIGINALS folder into the texture folder.

SB2 PLACEMENT:
To place ammo for M107 use:

  • BarrettM107Magazine (FOR M33 AMMO)
  • BarrettM107HEAmmo (FOR M23 INCENDIARY)
  • BarretDUAmmo (FOR MK211 HEIAP)

All entities available:

  • BarrettM107

  • BarrettM107HEAmmo
  • BarrettM107DUAmmo

Wasn't this released a while ago on Crymod, or is it "New and improved?"

You can't hold it one handed like that! It weights about 30 pounds...

No, you couldn't. But if you're wearing a nanosuit capable of letting you jump 15 feet into the air or punch through walls, you can probably hold a 30-pound gun in one hand.

One little suggestion, the sound of the Barret is a little loud, perhaps try to make it sound powerful rather then loud?

Umm i was thinking maybe let the sound carry and echo a little, so then it slowly flies quieter.

I think overall however its a great weapon! Well done :)

@f0u - Remember your wearing the Nanosuit

The gun is most likely supposed to be loud since it is in real life.

Thanks guys, it is in beta, even though this is a public release so things may be changed for the next community update. The sound itself isn't actually too far from reality,

Youtube.com

As for carrying it one handed, no certainly not in real life, but for Crysis it is necessary to present the weapon one handed for the customization menu, something that will not be the same in CryRecon as we are aiming for more realism.

The sound of the rifle firing isn't just loud. It's ridiculously over-the-top, ear-piercingly loud. I have to turn my game EFX slider down to 1/6 just so it doesn't blow my eardrums out when I have my headphones on.
