You wake up in a dark alley, not knowing anything. What has happened anyway? You struggle after the truth and answers. Answers you want to know in the darkness and fear, which makes your heartbeat race like violent blows against your head. Where do "they" come from? What has happened? Are you just turning insane? The time is up; you can't stay there reading your smses forever. It's time to head out and find the answers. Cry of Fear is a singleplayer modification of Half-Life 1 which brings you the horror you've always been afraid of. It's a total conversion of Half-Life 1, which means it uses NO half-life 1 content or other peoples' files. It's all made exclusively by the developers. It also uses new gaming styles that you will rarely find in Half-Life mods, such as advanced cutscenes and other stuff that will be revealed at a later date.

Some WIP gameplay from our mod Cry of Fear. Still it's WIP, so things might look weird. Like the mobile weapon got different arms and etc. We are also working on some big other things that might change the gameplay a bit. However, here goes.
How long does it take to process?
I like the look of this. Somehow everything seems well put together.
Yep, just like AOM: DC! :D
So well put together it is made to.... to.... to get her? LOL
woah... that is insanely creepy
excellent job!
Oh mad, checkpoints :D
The anims are really good.
Christ, this is starting to look nothing like a Half-Life mod but it's own game. Awesome job.
I looked through it three times, and all I can say is awesome.
(buried)
I see, hit and back and drug..
We'll add more anime to make you happy.
It looks great so far!
I only hope those smaller enemies will be a bit more aggressive in the final version...
Totally agreed. But I can't wait to play this.
Definitely one of the greatest mods to hit the Half-Life series, if not the greatest.
o.o Holy freaking christ on a...
Eh...
What I meant to say: Holy shit what the fuck?!
This looks really, really, really freaking amazing and I really can't wait to start playing this.
<as soon as I modify the damages x3>
Wow, just amazing. I like the inventory system and everything! And does scary music play when encountering an enemy like Silent Hill? Also, Resident Evil styled loading door things! AWEEEESOME! One more thing, you can punch with your phone out, excellent idea. CAN-NOT-WAIT!
the resident evil influence is really cool
Whoever said it was drugs? Could be an adrenaline injection or somthing...
Anyway, I can see things that came from the late RECB: rebirth.
Great job and good luck.
oh noes no qiucksave:-S
Quicksaves are for girls and men who wear girl's clothing anyway...
The detail and level design asthetics are looking excellent, you've come a long way from AOM Rumpel, hats off to you :D
Double post :/
Tripplepost ;p
But yeah, the maps looks much better now. But with AOM, I didn't really care about making good graphics actually... But I do care now. I just wanted to make something good looking. Paranoia inspired me a lot when it comes to making good graphics.
This looks like one awsome mod.
That's right, knock that fucker right out.
the only thing that bugs me is the blood effects when you cut something, could you change that? Everything looks good, but when that awful paper cut out blood comes out, it ruins the look.
wow.. this is amazing.. I would pay to have this mod XD
Wow, this looks absolutely incredible.
Wow, looking wonderful!
So you can kick while using that phone. Good thinking.
Ok, here's what I think: IT LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME!!!!
Things I like:
-You can switch how you hold the knife? Pure awesome!
-The lighting, especially with the phone light is great. You really captured that bluish tint to the lights you get on phones really well and I love how it isn't a projected beam but a general flood of thin light.
-The shooting looks great and the Glock looks fantastic. Thanks god there is finally a game that realises that there is more to a gunshot than a muzzle flash, I'm very glad to see some smoke, it really helps the immersion
-The environments are so detailed and well developed. Like I've said before, well done for using a lot of props, other mods have crippled themselves by having rooms with literally no objects in them. These apartments actually look like a home. The textures look fantastic too.
-Everything was very well animated, especially the syringe.
-You can punch while using the phone! I was thinking 'oh noes, he has his phone out instead of a weapon', but then *BAM* *BAM* *BAM*! Awesome, just pure awesome.
Things I wasn't so hot for:
-Personally, I'd love to see iron sights for the guns. I know it has become a bit of a lame fad for some mods ("look, we haz da ir0n s1ghtz0rs!!11!"). I just feel that with the level of detail and realism of the shooting mechanics that I saw in the video, it's a shame to miss out on something that really adds a deeper realism and immersion to the experience. I have often found that iron sights can make a shooter more intense, since you aren't aiming through a little pixel on the screen but you are actually using your gun. Also, since Minuit has the coding from RE:CB as a foundation (even though it wasn't perfect there), it seems a shame not to take advantage of that.
-The beeps and boops of the inventory were a little lame, I'm sorry to say. They just don't fit in with the rest of it, they are too sci-fi. I reckon a sort of rustling sound like a bag being opened or pockets being rummaged through would be great for this otherwise fantastic looking inventory system.
-One last thing, the player character could be a bit more high poly. With such great looking v models, it seems a waste to have such a pointy and LD player model, especially when there are such great anims for him.
Once again, great work guys, it looks incredible. I can say that I will be able to stand by my claim that this must be the most revolutionary and brilliant mod that the Half-Life engine has seen. I don't know how you guys have done it, but it is just astonishing work!
Good luck with the rest of the project and happy holidays!
I'm sure a lot of things are just placeholders, since they state that it is beta footage and some things are not finished.
Iron sights would not fit in with a mod like this, this isn't Call Of Duty...
Thanks for the feedbacks .Werewolf., really great info. But there are some stuff I disagree with, like iron sights. As D3ads said, iron sights and stuff like that is more for Call Of Duty stuff, although I really like iron sights, but might just be frustrating in a game like this. The player character is a problem though, he's a bit updated now than in the video, but still pretty low poly. I'm afraid that it would be VERY, VERY hard/annoying to replace him, because he is used in so many models for the cutscenes and features you can see, that you can say it's too late to change him. I didn't know from the beginning that this mod would have this good graphics, so I didn't care about him not being so well detailed.
Ok, I can agree with your counter points. Now that you mention it, I can understand why iron sights might not be so good when you have some hectic scenes going on.
As for the Simon model, that's a shame. I didn't realise that the same model was part of a whole load of other things and couldn't be switched out for a new one. It's probably much better to keep working on new stuff for the mod and keep progress going rather than have to go back and try to change old stuff.
To be honest, from what I've seen so far it would be almost impossible for this mod not to be great so even if all the problems that you have now can't be fixed, it's still going to be something people will really enjoy playing!
Hrm...quick question. Will there be a beretta?
Dunno yet. Don't think so.
I hope not, that must be one of the annoyingly over used guns in games.
Name five major FPS games where the Beretta 92FS is one of the main weapons.
Keep in mind that saying that having a beretta in games such as Operation Flashpoint, Rainbow Six, ArmA is overuse of the gun is silly, seeing as though the beretta is the standard sidearm of the U.S. military. Also, Half-Life originally used the glock, not the beretta.
Compared to the glock, the beretta is -underused-, good sir, though neither are used as much as the desert eagle, as far as video games go. Anyways, I simply asked the question on a friend's behalf, because he's a beretta nut and interested in the mod.
Fair enough. I shouldn't have said games. Movies, TV and games in general seem to have latched onto the Beretta 92FS. I like it just fine, but I just think a Glock is nicer for this game. I guess it boils down to the general feeling that some people have that the 92, like the Desert Eagle, is super L337.
Plus, Glocks are just plain better.
I haven't a clue when it comes to modelling, but can't you make a higher detailed simon model and then just apply it to the existing skeletons you have for the custom animations?
I'm not really fussed either way, Simon looks fine as he is imho.
Sure you can, but there is like 20 models to make that process on. And it's a damn pain I'd say. But we can, question is if we can be bothered to do it. x)
Awesome! Excellent cutscence with a great savepoint!
Also a great inventory system
Man! I like it
rumpel and minuit, have my babies!!!!
I might redo the Simon model for great justice.
Finally going to make yourself useful then? ;)
WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE SUCH TREATMENT
Holy crap, this is being developed BY TWO PEOPLE??
This is even beter then some retail games out there that were developed by entire teams!
5 actually...
Yeah. Most of it was done by 2 people until Spork joined the team a couple of months ago. Then he remodelled all the weapons and arms, and started re-animating them. Then we hired BerZerk and DragonNOR to do the voice acting. Although we do have a 6th member, AcidSnake, skinning some weapons.
WHAT!!! AWESOMENESS!!
Hey. Since there's two slots to have items in,
would you think about implementing dual-wielding with different pistols in each hand?
