You wake up in a dark alley, not knowing anything. What has happened anyway? You struggle after the truth and answers. Answers you want to know in the darkness and fear, which makes your heartbeat race like violent blows against your head. Where do "they" come from? What has happened? Are you just turning insane? The time is up; you can't stay there reading your smses forever. It's time to head out and find the answers. Cry of Fear is a singleplayer modification of Half-Life 1 which brings you the horror you've always been afraid of. It's a total conversion of Half-Life 1, which means it uses NO half-life 1 content or other peoples' files. It's all made exclusively by the developers. It also uses new gaming styles that you will rarely find in Half-Life mods, such as advanced cutscenes and other stuff that will be revealed at a later date.

Or just the glows give us 3d feeling about the place? :]

It's hard to see on the screenshot, but when moving around, you can see the "glows" are moving in different speed.

Cool idea, just fit into the black sky and dark atmosphere. My "city" is a blocky shit so i can close the map with buildings and walls. I guess Swedish enviroment are bad for mappers. :D

Well, there is a park right in front of you which makes it hard to close the map with buildings, to prevent this kind of big fields. Although, I seek for this kind of stuff, because I love challangers in mapping.

Looks awesome!

Just two quick questions. I saw that the light from the lamp on the brick wall has quite a blocky shape to it, unlike the one for the 'street lamp' and bus stop. Is that just a place holder?

Also, about the cross hairs, are there going to be different cross hairs for different guns (shotgun, Ruger p345, Glock 19 etc)?

I really like the look of that bus stop. It looked great in the first screenie that showed it and it looks great here too. That's a really great bit of mapping right there. The paving slabs look spot on too, and the lighting is just fantastic.

Great stuff.

Not sure if it would fit with the setting of Cry of Fear, but one thing you could add are solar panels slanted at an angle to the rooftops. They allow progress into one part of the map and restrict access to the latter part that you came from. It's also a good spot to get ambushed by enemies. Just my idea, you don't have to consider it.

- Tell me something, is it possible to make distant citadel effect in hl1 map like in hl2? Not asking how, just if it can be done. 3 ways you say? One would be 3d skybox, the second one would be using terrain and buildings models around the map itself (r_speeds under control), and the third one I guess is using simple world models...maybe the combination ...guess that's all you can do...

Is it a 256 sky box?
Will you add support for bigger textures for maps and characters or you will use the standard 512x512 256 colours ?
The same question about model poly count ? will you increase the 2k tir per $body in mdl ? and add some big models with good occlusion metod?
Just curious :3 btw the Project is looking good XD

Can't wait for this mod :]

Minuit Sep 27 2009, 7:06am replied:

No, of course it's not a standard 256 sky box! We won't be adding support for bigger textures, although the model polycount of 2k tris is already being used if you look at some other models. For example, the weapons are highly detailed and are about 3k tris.
