Crossfire 1.7 Mod review

Crossfire Mod 1.7 is a vast expansion to Freelancer and was created by SWAT to show the advanced possibilities of the original Freelancer. With more than 60 added systems, 100 new stations and dockable planets, five new factions and a quest (storyline) you'll be exploring a different game altogether. To help you get along, there is also a wide range of new ships, weapons and equipment. You will need it, because Crossfire is not a place to linger and take it easy. Crossfire is a place to fight and survive, for even the NPCs evolved, got tougher, smarter and are harder to kill than ever. To make it short: Sissies better stay out!

The Story
A new-found jumpgate in Omicron Alpha leads to a system with dozens of other jumpgates, all portals to new and unexplored worlds. Heavy fights between the Alliance and the Nomads took place there, thus the system is now called Crossfire. The Alliance maintains a tenuous hold on the new system for now. With the conquest of Crossfire, a new way to planet Earth is found, a dead and deserted system... or so it seems. Travel beyond Sol will lead you to Coalition space. Apparently two Coalition sleeper ships managed to reach what is now called the Altair sector. Immediately, fights between Coalition and Alliance flare up again, but these two factions have much bigger problems than their own in-fighting... the Dom'Kavash. This ancient race once controlled all of Sirius, but mysteriously withdrew from the sector for unknown reasons. Now they try to expand their territory into Coalition space and once again into Sirius, with the help of Nomads. The Alliance and the Coalition have only one chance: To forget their hatred for each other and fight united against the worst enemy in the history of mankind. So the houses of Sirius and the Coalition have formed a fragile union to fight this deadly threat..

New features
New graphics and better effects, new sound, music and new outfits for Trent and Juni (yes, there is also a sexy one) and a lot of other enhancements enable you to enjoy a complete new gaming experience. A wide range of ships, weapons, equipment and commodities, together with the new systems makes Crossfire a game you can play for a long time and experience something new every time you play it. To find all the new stuff and the new systems, a quest has been added. Solve the riddle and it will lead you directly to Hyperspace, a place unlike any you have seen before... but be warned... getting out of Hyperspace alive will be a true challenge!

Multiplayer
The 24/7 Crossfire server is protected by a 100% secure anti-cheat program, to ensure that your gaming experience won't get spoiled by cheaters. The launcher makes sure you always have the newest version of the game running. The SWAT team has made safe gaming a reality for Freelancer enthusiasts, and the community is committed to helping new players in-game and on the forums.

There are twenty buyable/rentable clansystems available, and the clans that own these systems are free to make alliances or open diplomatic relations with other clans, as well as set their own rules within their clan-space.

There are systems designed solely for tournaments and pvp, along with new race courses, which set the stage for regular events. One of these events is the ongoing fight between the Alliance Star Fleet (ASF) and the Confederated Strike Force (CSF). The ASF/CSF event is server-wide, and is tallied by an Auto-Referee to determine the winning team. Other events include Total Death Match (TDM), Smuggler Hunt, Nomad Hunt and Top Gun events for those trigger-happy players. Winners of these events are generously rewarded!

But you don't have to join a clan or enter the events to have fun! No matter if your roleplay is mercenary, cop, smuggler or pirate, just mount the license you want and off you go. And to keep you busy, the dynamic universe changes daily: One day you may find a highly profitable trade route to Vega; the next you enter New Tokyo and find yourself looking at some really mean Dom'Kavash gunboats.

Or, if you just want to take missions you can find good paying jobs in most of the new systems, but be sure to go on that missions with only the best equipment available, because the NPCs will make sure you have to earn your credits the hard way.
