"It was the 23rd Century: mankind’s darkest hour."

That is what we have thought for centuries but we were wrong. A new threat waiting for aeons has moved out of the dark. We have seen them, we have fought them, we have gained an important victory but we were not aware that they were not the only ones hiding between the stars. Now we have stumbled into a galactic war that had been raging ten thousands of years.
Mankind on the loosing side, in the middle of Crossfire.

The Crossfire Mod is by far the biggest and most complex Freelancer modification available. For many years this mod is known for highest quality and innovative ideas which we have introduced to the Freelancer modding scene.
With Crossfire we have build and extended an universe based on the original Freelancer game and its story. Realism and a logical development of the quest based storyline and the game environment such as the systems and the technological development is most important on this mod. Crossfire is not a static mod like most others, it is a dynamic developing environment with dynamic economy, dynamic universe, destructable solars and download content (DLC) which introduces new quests, new ships, new systems and new equipment.

Most important in this mod is the atmosphere.
High quality graphics, high quality music tracks, more than 150 very detailed systems, new voice samples, stunning effects, many challenging quests, ten thousands of small side stories and rumours, fantastic gameplay and hundreds of cool ships. That is the Crossfire mod.

Crossfire 2.0 - Progress update

After almost two years of development the new Crossfire mod is almost finished.
With Crossfire 2.0 we have created a mod that can only be described as "perfect". Alot of community feedback was taken into consideration to create an environment that the players will love.

The amount of work we have invested to build the new version was just massive. We still have a bit work to do on the storyline but are convinced to finish everything in December 2013.
That means the release is near.

I'd like to use this opportunity to thank the entire team and everyone who supported us.
Without the support of our dedicated helpers we wouldn't have come that far.

Thank you!

Progress and Release

Now that we are getting close to a release we thought we should release a bit more information about what we have done in the past two years and keep you up to date with the development progress.
On the left side of the Crossfire Mod profile here at ModDB we have added a small Crossfire 2.0 preview. We will give you a small overview about the most important highlights of the mod and show you in detail what we have changes and whats left to be done prior the release.
The progress bars and the change log will be updated regulary so you can keep track of the development.

Once the time has come we will also add a release countdown there.

i have a question, i read in the descriptionm that the player starts with 150000. i dint get any money??
so its really hard in beginning.the npcs are too strong i need 3/4 hour to get asthon the wrong guy. fortunaly he didnt move 2 times long enough around, so that i finally could kill him.
i need for every ship too long too kill and my wingmen are useless. They didnt kill one ship. i thought about later in the missions, it get really hard, if i am the only 1 who kills the opponents ships??

Yes ive heard about this problem and already checked the files containing the start conditions. They are all ok so my assumption is that you have played the singleplayer before installing Crossfire and the savegames including the restart.fl remained active
So your game starts with the old starting conditions. You should try to delete those files and start a new singleplayer game then. I will do the same to check if this is really the problem before I release Crossfire 1.8

If the NPCs are too strong then you should make money with trading a bit to buy better weapons and ships. With Crossfire 1.8 the low level NPCs will be less strong to give better starting conditions.

Thanx for the reply, really appreciate it! Can't wait for CF 1.8! It sounds really awesome! Somehow it seems like SWAT has really gone out of thier way to make it special!

yes there will be changes for the singleplayer campaign
depending on our time we will even try to extend the singleplayer campaign to include our already existing quest system there

the most noticable changes are the starting conditions
NPCs in liberty will be less strong to ensure that less good players have a chance to have a smooth start (the NPCs got completly reworked)
the new singleplayer mode will also allow to buy ships that were locked by lvl requirement in old Crossfire versions

Additionally the singleplayer will get seperated from multiplayer includes such as clan systems and their billboards while these features will still exist in multiplayer.

We also decided to lock a few jumpgates to prevent easy runs into the new systems... so exploration is required again.
Once the singleplayer campaign is over all locked gates will get unlocked again and you are free to travel where ever you want.

Hi there!

Love the 1.7 mod! Could of have made the NPC's a little easier! Just a little discrepancy or flaw I had found with the 1.7 client edition and it's predecessor is a couple of spelling errors and bad sentence contructing when accessing information of certian area's, planets, the story and so on! Wonderful mod, love to play for hours on end and I hope 1.8 will be the most outstanding amongst the rest of all the mods put together! :)

well the NPCs seems to be hard for the first couple of hours playing - but later on you will recognize that they are not as powerful as they seems to be ;)
And one of the tasks is to force groups to beat them up *lol* some kind of solidary work... *just kidding* but new players are always welcome to ask if they need help - there are always a plenty of "old" players who can give good advises.

Well the spelling faults... No body is perfect and you can see this part of a kind of riddle ;) And we will always welcome improvement suggestions - even for wrong spelling ;)

And CF 1.8 will comply with your hopes...

for CF1.8 the balancing has been changed
low lvl npcs are easier to kill in order to help new players starting with this mod while high lvl npcs are harder to kill

additionally we have done changes to the infocards and fixed some spelling

Crossfire is the best looking Freelancer mod. Hard to believe that this game was released seven years ago.

I love the tune up to the area and especially to Trent himself. But i find that with the increase in difficulty, space battles in SP take a very long time. This i can deal with as it makes the battles themselves more interesting and unpredictable. However i find myself getting annoyed during the first mission that character Beta 4 is destroyed before i've managed to kill 1 enemy. This happens over and over most tries lasting under a minute resulting in me quitting the game. If players are forced…
