That is what we have thought for centuries but we were wrong. A new threat waiting for aeons has moved out of the dark. We have seen them, we have fought them, we have gained an important victory but we were not aware that they were not the only ones hiding between the stars. Now we have stumbled into a galactic war that had been raging ten thousands of years.
Mankind on the loosing side, in the middle of Crossfire.

The Crossfire Mod is by far the biggest and most complex Freelancer modification available. For many years this mod is known for highest quality and innovative ideas which we have introduced to the Freelancer modding scene.
With Crossfire we have build and extended an universe based on the original Freelancer game and its story. Realism and a logical development of the quest based storyline and the game environment such as the systems and the technological development is most important on this mod. Crossfire is not a static mod like most others, it is a dynamic developing environment with dynamic economy, dynamic universe, destructable solars and download content (DLC) which introduces new quests, new ships, new systems and new equipment.

Most important in this mod is the atmosphere.

Crossfire 2.0 - Progress update

After almost two years of development the new Crossfire mod is almost finished.
With Crossfire 2.0 we have created a mod that can only be described as "perfect". Alot of community feedback was taken into consideration to create an environment that the players will love.

The amount of work we have invested to build the new version was just massive. We still have a bit work to do on the storyline but are convinced to finish everything in December 2013.
That means the release is near.

I'd like to use this opportunity to thank the entire team and everyone who supported us.
Without the support of our dedicated helpers we wouldn't have come that far.

Progress and Release

Now that we are getting close to a release we thought we should release a bit more information about what we have done in the past two years and keep you up to date with the development progress.
On the left side of the Crossfire Mod profile here at ModDB we have added a small Crossfire 2.0 preview. We will give you a small overview about the most important highlights of the mod and show you in detail what we have changes and whats left to be done prior the release.
The progress bars and the change log will be updated regulary so you can keep track of the development.

Once the time has come we will also add a release countdown there.

Another thing has bothered me with a couple freelancer mods is the bug when you've got a big ship and you've docked in a battleship or a specific station and you cant get out because your ship is too large and you cant leave and you get stuck within the station. Sometimes station doors wont even open in some mods. I hope this is foreseen and fixed somehow in 1.8?

P.S I know there's no such thing as a gamma test but still. :)
P.P.S I also know how long beta testing takes for a would as big as freelancer you got to check every single system and every single base so I wish people would relize this before asking a release date

I am currently working on the last coalition and inner core systems. After that the quests finally get implemented, the voice samples get finished and some of dynamic parts will get written during beta phase.
How long the tests will take is something i can not really say. It depends on the testers.

Sure, following some sort of realism is cool and even good, but when the mod features tons of systems to explore which are intended for the players to explore it seems wrong not to explore. I mean the mod features 100+? new systems, doesnt that mean one SHOULD be exploring them? Well bloody hell, yes he should. I can imagine making a freelancer system is tough and requires tons of details for each object besides the system itself.

But when you enter a system that looks boring as hell, you lose the will to play.

While waiting for CF 1.8, I got myself the MD's Rebalance mod and its a perfect example how things should be. Old systems have some new stuff to spice them up or add things that make it more fun/easier to get by in and new systems are interesting and then there are TONS of activity going on (Often you encounter all sorts of ships flying around and eventually fighting each other, including battleships and cruisers.)
Those whole mod is fun to play overall. I really liked how they simplified docking to a more faster and hastle-free system, then there were new weapons that were nothing like any old ones and featured whole new concepts like area denial weapons or cruise missile, cluster missiles and beam cannons. Then I really liked how they expanded the customizability of the ship's systems like engines, power generators, thrusters that modified flight speed and lots more.

Crossfire is the best looking Freelancer mod. Hard to believe that this game was released seven years ago.

I love the tune up to the area and especially to Trent himself. But i find that with the increase in difficulty, space battles in SP take a very long time. This i can deal with as it makes the battles themselves more interesting and unpredictable. However i find myself getting annoyed during the first mission that character Beta 4 is destroyed before i've managed to kill 1 enemy. This happens over and over most tries lasting under a minute resulting in me quitting the game. If players are forced…
