"It was the 23rd Century: mankind’s darkest hour."

That is what we have thought for centuries but we were wrong. A new threat waiting for aeons has moved out of the dark. We have seen them, we have fought them, we have gained an important victory but we were not aware that they were not the only ones hiding between the stars. Now we have stumbled into a galactic war that had been raging ten thousands of years.
Mankind on the loosing side, in the middle of Crossfire.

The Crossfire Mod is by far the biggest and most complex Freelancer modification available. For many years this mod is known for highest quality and innovative ideas which we have introduced to the Freelancer modding scene.
With Crossfire we have build and extended an universe based on the original Freelancer game and its story. Realism and a logical development of the quest based storyline and the game environment such as the systems and the technological development is most important on this mod. Crossfire is not a static mod like most others, it is a dynamic developing environment with dynamic economy, dynamic universe, destructable solars and download content (DLC) which introduces new quests, new ships, new systems and new equipment.

Most important in this mod is the atmosphere.
High quality graphics, high quality music tracks, more than 150 very detailed systems, new voice samples, stunning effects, many challenging quests, ten thousands of small side stories and rumours, fantastic gameplay and hundreds of cool ships. That is the Crossfire mod.

Crossfire 2.0 - Progress update

After almost two years of development the new Crossfire mod is almost finished.
With Crossfire 2.0 we have created a mod that can only be described as "perfect". Alot of community feedback was taken into consideration to create an environment that the players will love.

The amount of work we have invested to build the new version was just massive. We still have a bit work to do on the storyline but are convinced to finish everything in December 2013.
That means the release is near.

I'd like to use this opportunity to thank the entire team and everyone who supported us.
Without the support of our dedicated helpers we wouldn't have come that far.

Thank you!

Progress and Release

Now that we are getting close to a release we thought we should release a bit more information about what we have done in the past two years and keep you up to date with the development progress.
On the left side of the Crossfire Mod profile here at ModDB we have added a small Crossfire 2.0 preview. We will give you a small overview about the most important highlights of the mod and show you in detail what we have changes and whats left to be done prior the release.
The progress bars and the change log will be updated regulary so you can keep track of the development.

Once the time has come we will also add a release countdown there.

Your vote counts

I recently made some comments or criticisms of certain persons working on the Crossfire 1.8 Mod. In general I was fed up with all the waiting for the release date to be announced. I drew alot of attention by my comments and was called a "Dumb ***" "Moron" etc, etc. Fine I can take that if thats others general opinion about my comments. "If you give it you should be prepared to take it" My concern is that someone has deemed it necessary to delete that page of comments for one reason or another. So if you criticise or make comments that certain people don't like and then have that page they appeared on deleted, how can this be a democratic web site?
Nodoubt I will be reviled for making this comment and then probably deleted. At least I tried!!!

SWAT_OP-R8R Dec 18 2009, 1:50pm replied:

Reason for deleting comments are insults, wrong claims, even lies about this mod and the ones building it.
There are clear rules at moddb and they are to be followed.

We offer this mod as a free service, a service that even big companies such as Digital Anvil could not offer in such a short time. But yes i could have released the mod earlier but then we could not have done all the other work in the FL community. So you would have got a mod in time but a dead FL community. Is that the better alternative?

Furthermore, tell me a reason why we should release our work to people which insult and blame us? We do the work, we pay the bills, we keep FL alive and then we get insulted. The mod is finished and we will release it when players finally show respect for the efforts that we made.

*Hahaaa* Who said the Crossfire community was democratic?! Prepare to be deleteted or at least insulted by the few still left in the so called crossfire "community".

Or because someone has criticized this mod, the crossfire community or even the admin! (for god's sake!!!) And criticism is not being tolerated. Don't wonder should this comment disappear also.

Spiky- Dec 17 2009, 4:17pm replied:

or because people like you post nonsense and lies on here?
Do you know how many times SWAT and this mod got attacked? I am sure that Op has other things to worry about than of little flamers like you that whine about CF 1.8 taking a long time to be released. Oh and our community sure doesn't need idiots like you that cry around and don't contribute **** so once 1.8 is released please don't come crawling back.

I don't care about the likes of you, I don't care about SWAT, I don't care about 1.8, I don't care about op, I don't care what he cares about and I never crawl. I had enough of all this ****. Should I need 1.8 I will just take it.

@iamtheone (aka TRF Marauder)
what you call critics are flames, rants and insults
that is why you got banned, you broke rules, agreements and trust (probably even much more)

if you would have wanted to voice critics then you would have come to me like everybody else. but no you did choose to post insults, lies and alot of other crap on your forum while you even had the nerves to show exactly the opposite to the SWAT community. You have not been honest and your clan did break rules, agreements and their words.
For that you received what you deserved. You ranting here shows this good enough. It shows your poor attitude. Threat even with "taking whatever you like". Now that you got stopped at SWAT you go on here, that alone shows that you received the correct punishment and that you deserved it. You might be able to download the mod... yes. But next to that you will not do anything with it, expecially not take it and use it for your own purpose. At the moment you try you will notice that i am willing to go very far in order to stop ppl like you.

Oh and if you continiou with your crap here at moddb then i will make sure that the rules of this place that you already have broken and those that you still might break will lead to a punishment that gets you removed from here.

ok here is the deal.
everyone gets the same rights and the same right to say, but in return everyone does pay the same amount back, does the same work for the community and shows the same dedication

we keep the current status where the ones which work their arses off for all others have the say

Crossfire is the best looking Freelancer mod. Hard to believe that this game was released seven years ago.

Any Multi-player Freelancer Mod has to be about the community that plays within it, more than about the special effects or the ships and systems within the Mod. That said, the Crossfire community is one of the worst I have ever experienced. New players are expected to kiss the butts of the "veterans" and if you have decided to pay $20 per month to have your own clan system, you are allowed to be above the rules that govern the server. If you spot a rule infraction by one of these "elite" members…
