Cross of Iron is a Company of Heroes (CoH) mod that’s main aim is to balance the four factions in the game and their respective doctrines.

Its secondary aim is that of historical accuracy, but without making severe compromises in gameplay.
One of the main features of this mod is that it intends to do the above without making major gameplay changes to the original CoH experience, so no one-hit-kill AT shots or huge-range Howitzers.

A very important feature of Cross of Iron is tailoring the units, abilities and upgrades to be more specific for each Army Doctrine, balancing cons with pros, while also adding some new build options.

As examples, the fearsome Knight’s Cross Holders are now available only to the Wehrmacht Terror Doctrine in order to give them a better late-game infantry unit and more incentive to play with, while the Panther needs an extra 'phase' in order to unlock it and the US receive an AT Bazooka Squad to better counter Axis armour.

Another important feature would be the usage of High-Quality community skins that better differentiate one 'army' from the other as well as make the game more immersive, with different camos and accessories. These HQ skins carry on to the SP Campaigns as well.

G'day guys.

LethalDosage, the lead developer of Cross of Iron here.

There's been a long silence from us Devs around these parts. In that silence many of you have wondered if the mod's dead, and i think it's about time i made it official.

Cross of Iron is dead.

Sadly work stopped about two years ago due to unresolvable crashes, frustratingly poor AI (and lacking the talent to rewrite script and improve it), CoH's transfer to Steam, and the lack of free time stemming from real life distractions.

Everyone here on the CoI dev team has moved onto other projects, and i've been forced to not only move away from CoH 1 modding, but cut back on gaming in general.

I myself in particular have poured years of constant work into this mod, from it's humble beginnings as a balance and bug-fix mod, to what it currently is. It has truly been a pleasure developing this mod and bringing it to all the CoH players who've tried it and loved it, and i thank you all for sticking with my mod and following it to this quiet end.

It's fine. v2.601 and v2602 are virtually identical. The mod will run the same on either patch.

The only difference is the handful of maps added to multiplayer with the v2.602 patch will have some missing text codes in the skirmish/multiplayer menu.

I'm afraid to say that while we do have a "Dev" version, development has stalled. So this is a semi-"final" version, until we get around to packaging up the Dev version.

Lethal, would you be able to throw up a screen of the DD Sherman? I found the 'Unused Relic Stuff' thread on relicnews, where the DD was mentioned (and as being in CoI), but sadly most of the images there are no longer hosted.

The mod, I must say, looks fantastic. Very well put together!

I'm afraid the DD Sherman was an unfinished model we threw in for a while, while attempted to add other amphibious craft and boats. I'm sad to say that due to how Relic coded water, it simply wasn't possible to code units that could pass through both "impassible" water and drive on land, at least not while also driving straight through all other impassible objects like buildings and cliffs.

That, combined with the fact that the model was unfinished and very poorly skinned resulted in us removing it some time ago. I do believe the vehicle is still in the mod's folders, just not available ingame. You should still be able to view the vehicle in Worldbuilder.
