What happens when Gordon Freeman was a counter-terrorist before he became a scientist? What if he brought all his counter-terrorism training to the Black Mesa the day The Accident happened? Aliens coming from nowhere, soldiers slaughtering the survivors and machinery gone haywire... What say we buy that AW/M, load it with .338 Magnum Lupua rounds and fire it aimed right in between the eyes of anyone standing in your way?

Hey! First of all, I just want to say how happy I am that the counter-life project ain't dead! Followed it untill lights went out back in 2004/05. Did a random search of the web yesterday and WHAM! Found this very well... my question(s) 1. Does these new versions (beta 7 & version 1) only work if you have steam installed and gained half-life that way? I saw in some newspost from Haunter that you are supposed to delete every last bit of previous CL mods from steam before installing the new ones, but I played the old ones without steam. Can the old versions be played both with or without steam? 2. Not directly a CL question... but I have windows vista, and I only own the original half-life game sold back in -98. Damn vista doesn't accept that half-life! I can install it but not play it... is there a way to get around that? 3. Do the new versions of CL require you to have CS installed as well? On steam or however I like? 4. I bought the Blue Shift game when it came out, and always used the High definition pack that followed with it. Are those graphics built-in in these two new versions of counter-life? I know that beta 6.5 had something like that... If not, must I get the HD-pack from Steam? Seems unlikely that I can get it off my blue-shift CD and make it work, judging from how vista reacts to half life... 5. I can't find the right-handed models that Haunter said he uploaded in the downloads-section.. Sorry for the question-surge Thanks! /Simon |

1. Aha... so it's however I like? 2.I can install the game and all... but when I try to start a new game it tells me that i do not have the HL cd inserted.. but I do! Also there is a warning from windows before you install HL that says there are known complications with HL and vista, and that the game perhaps won't work properly (no shit 3. , 4. , 5. Aha!.... Thank you for your answers |

About 1: probably yes, but you need to delete an older version of Counter Life if you have that. |

register your CD key via steam, this will enable you to play half-life and CS, DoD and some mods you can install your CL into the steam folder C:/program files/steam/steamapp/account name/half-life this is the same folder which function like you can paste the "Counter-Life" folder directly into the "half-life" folder |

Indeed. And don't remember to restart steam after you've done that! |

Thanks for all your help with this. Really appreciate it! bad news though... It says my cd-key is already registered... then it says: "registration of half-life platinum pack could therefore not be completed" or something like that.... I have the good old regular half-life from -98... not some platinum pack... *sigh* I really do hate steam... |

No problem, forums are made to help people I like steam, but that's because i only got all steam versions of games like Half-Life. I had problems installing half-life before too, and hated steam back them (different issue, not yours |

Hello! I'm back again.. been busy with all kind of things, so I have just contacted steam and hopefully they will help me soon. Just one question I ran into... is it correct that you must install Half-life 1 the "regular" way before you try to add it to steam? Seems kind of logic to me, and I've tried that.. but just asking... Thanks!! |

When I bought Half-Life, it automatically installed steam and installed HL in that. But that might be so because I got HL: Anthology. I don't know how you should do it, maybe press "activate key with steam" and enter the HL key there? |
