Coretex Cluster v18 Download

Hey everyone! This is the second release of Coretex Cluster to the main public! A good portion of this mod is still under construction and being worked on.

What does that mean for you?
It basically means that you can have input on the design and story for the mod! I'm very excited to start working with everyone in the community and hope that together we can build a really exciting puzzle mod for everyone.

Since this is the first release of the project, I really wanted everyone to get a feel for what I'm trying to accomplish. Here is my release trailer which shows off a few glimpses into the single player portion and 2D puzzle aspects.


Port to Portal 2!
So, after releasing the mod I almost decided right away that I wanted to get it ready for Portal 2. I will be documenting my entire journey and hope that everyone will be along for the ride. I prototyped my main mechanics which are already working better than ever!

Co-op Puzzle Battle?!
What I really want to do is setup the mod for co-op. I'm not sure how that will play into everything just yet, but I've already started off my naming conventions to support a 2nd grid. I'll post my thoughts on co-op in the coming weeks but I don't want to get sidetracked too much from the main goal.

1. I've managed to finish the second-last level without using the left and right shots(that means I used only 4 < shots)
2. The mod might tell a story about an intellegent guy used the puzzle-you-solved thingy to hack the files.
3. The speed of rotating shapes are too slow, and I kinda don't like the way to control the pieces.
4. As you progress through the story, I hope that there will be interesting thing to happen, challenges(or in bonus map), boss puzzles, etc.
5. puzzle selection map like in Portal 2 Co-op?(Might be impossible?)

Thanks for the feedback, I haven't had a chance to play p2 co-op yet, but atm I'm in the middle of porting this over to portal 2. They have lots of great stuff to use and I have already made a small prototype which proves I can use the lasers instead of the ball catchers. I think it's going to be pretty cool and interesting whenever I get it finished. I'll be sure to post videos and all that jazz of the main process.

In the future, you most certainly will be able to. The way I have setup the puzzle creation system it should be easy for anyone to make puzzles :)I will upload a picture on the how to create them in about a week.

But other than that The introduction was great, you are not filled in enough about your character which is great and leaves a lot for character development in the future. Only thing is, I suggest not to base the whole mod on this puzzle idea. mix it with some classic portal kind of puzzles which I think would work well together in a test chamber. The HUD could use some improvement, but some Photoshop can do wonders, It doesn't look bad for a demo. Finally, the main chamber where you do the puzzle, the circular thing surrounding the squares could use some monitors or something like that, making it look like its plugged into the mainframe. If you need an extra hand at writing/design ideas I could help out. I'm not much of a designer, but I can do writing and story well, if you need someone to help out of course. Great job so far :)

Thanks a lot for this feedback, I realize I might have rushed his lines along to get them in for the demo. I do have plenty of plans for the other cores and I will work on defining them more in the future.

all I can say, make sure the personality cores accurately depict a certain personality type. Like it's plain to see and understand from first few words and behavioral patterns in the original games. That was one thing that bugged me a bit. The personality core that wakes you up doesn't seem to be defined enough. He appears to be similar to Wheatley, but having a same ( or similar ) personality core would be boring :/ You have nearly endless potential with the core idea. Work on it. As much interaction with them could make this game and give it the narrative it needs. Portal 1 -Glados Portal 2 - Wheatley, Glados and prerecorded messages. And here, mainly cores, but I somehow feel that's what you have planned :D But in any case, careful with character development. It has to be defined to the max. Cheers

when did you have to use the autosave feature? was it after your game glitched? or did you do that between puzzles?

Reinstalled the first Portal just to try this earlier today. Loved the puzzle mechanic and the whole interaction with the core was really cool.

Do you have plans for adding other types of 2D puzzle games? Or the mod will be around this specific one? Just wondering. Playing TicTacToe or Othello against some wacky core would be great. :P

Anyway, keep it up! Can't wait to see more from it. ;)

Great! Glad you liked it. I plan on taking what is currently there and expanding on it. I have already tested a few other ideas out, but wanted to keep the demo simple.
