How have you been. You monster.? GLaDOS would ask... Well, we've been busy with a new version for "THE CORE". Inspired by the instant classic 3D-shooter "Quake" we are working on a new style for our "Portal 2" mod. We are adding new elements to it as well as giving all maps a new touch. CosmicD is creating new deadly puzzles and Darth_Brush is re-crearting all maps and is providing them with more details and brushwork. This mod doesn't take place in the Aperture Science universe anymore, it takes place in a dark digital nightmare.
After the first release we decided to go far away from the original "Portal 2" style and "THE CORE" will get an own remarkable look. We've kicked it into 5th gear with development and today we can show you some in-game screenshots:

How do you complete the first chamber? :S
I found two glitches on the last map.
If you put a portal on the slanted platform and a second portal on the next one down and jump in the second one. you shoot out of the higher platform and go through the broken stone above the lights.
I also found a second one with the same platform. if you put a portal down by the gel and run through it, you'll shoot out and hit the corner next to the lights up between the switches.
isn't that normal? That's how I complete the last map.

This looks like a promising mod.
But it just seems to be very poorly optimized.
Normal Portal 2 can run decently on my rig...
but this mod?
No such luck.
It is so slow that I cannot move or aim with any kind of accuracy as the controls for both seem to lurch and jump around at random.
Its a pity. I had been looking forward to it.
in the 1.1 patch i'm goign to replace many of the arms in the skybox with low res versions and the ones on the edge of the skybox to lights only, also I can maybe relief some of the lag by adding visclusters and more fog.
The tricky thing is that this room is totally surrounded by skybox to show the facility being constructed....
I just launched it. Loaded up the first level. Got stuck in the room with the portal gun. And then my game crashed. And now it won't launch again...
what if you delete video.txt in the installation folder's CFG folder ? so that's in c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\sourcemods\thecore\cfg . Maybe you can set your video settings again; I hope the main game doesn't crash for you.
I had to go get rid of the novid launch option on portal 2 and a few other things that deal with letting my computer run portal 2 better and the mod. So I had some lag but it was well. The mod is good, however I found quite a few traps I think.
