Conquest is a single player mod for Quake. There are several outstanding features, some of which are done already (such as the shop, shielding, and many weapons), others aren't. As always, visit the homepage occasionally for updates.

Shop
====

There's a shop in town that's always open. You can buy and sell weapons, ammo, shields, and items, and convert gold to credits. There are also other shops located in various locations around each level (and you can heal yourself there, though the inn is much cheaper), but their prices are slightly higher. You can navigate the shop menus using the arrow keys to move the selection around, and pressing attack and jump/altfire to select or cancel.

Weapons
=======

You have 5 slots for holding weapons. You can buy whatever weapons you want, and even buy a weapon multiple times. In fact, you can buy 5 railguns if you can afford it; however, it's beneficial to have a variety of weapons so you can deal with whatever shielding the enemy has.

Shields
=======

Shielding is one of the most important features. Shields can greatly extend your life, and will define the types of attacks you and monsters are more or less vulnerable to. You can equip 3 layers of shielding. When an attack hits the player, the damage must go through the Outer Layer, then the Middle Layer, and then the Inner Layer before finally hurting the player, if there's any damage left.

There are 7 different types of shielding: Standard, Precision, Impact, Tesla, Limit, Blink and Resist. Most shields also have a Green, Yellow and Red type that provide different amounts of protection for different costs.

Status Effects
==============

There are many nasty status effects in Conquest, including Poison, Burning, Interference, Drain, Slow, AtkDown, DefDown, and ShieldDisable. Some attacks will inflict these statuses, while other sources are auras and spells. You can block out status effects with a layer of Resist shielding, but that takes up one slot that could be blocking damage instead, so it can be a difficult choice.

Raising monsters
================

The player can occasionally find eggs and take them back to town. There he can hatch them and raise monsters of his own to aid him in battle. The owner has to furnish his monster with shields, and sometimes even weapons (in the case of grunts and enforcers), but the large cost can be well worth it.

That's right, Conquest is finally available for download and tenative scruteny. It's only half done, and I'm ashamed of all the stuff that's missing, but I felt it was time to get a few more opinions on what's available so far.

Visit the Moddb description for a quick summary, or the home page for more detail and a download. And, of course, there's lots and lots of screenshots!

This is one of the most impressive mods I've seen, from the weapons and weapon-mod system, to the RPG-style floating damage numbers and shield system which requires you to switch up your weaponry. Very entertaining playing even the original quake single-player levels.

My closest comparison would have to be borderlands, only borderlands is a complete walk in the park compared to playing this on hard!
