The Past Ain't What It Used To Be...

The first Command & Conquer received its last official update on the 21st of June, 1996. Since then, the game has been ported to Windows (as "Gold" version), and re-released in the big "The First Decade" and "The Ultimate Collection" collection packs, but has never received any more bug fixes.

The C&C Gold Patch 1.06 project aims to bring this classic into the new millennium, by fixing the old bugs, supporting higher resolutions, and adding new modding and mapping possibilities. It also contains an addon-based language system, allowing anyone to create translation packs for the game.

Thanks to the people on the OldGamesItalia website, there is now an Italian translation pack for C&C95; v1.06 available.

There's also the voices and EVA, but I can't show those on a screenshot ;)

This is probably the most professionally organized translation yet; the people there are avid enthusiasts of fan-translation, and even gave the project its own sub-forum. I think the only time I've worked with a real translation team before was on the Polish pack, which was developed on my own forum on CNCNZ.

Anyway. Their own release information on the pack can be found on this page. The pack is also available here on ModDB, in the Addons section of the 1.06 patch page.

Probably because your graphics card or monitor don't accept it. It's kind of a non-standard resolution. The normal 4:3 resolution for it is 640x480; the only reason C&C95 has 640x400 is because it's the exact double of the old DOS C&C 320x200 resolution (which isn't 4:3 but 8:5)

In CCConfig, there are two ways to get around that:

1. Set the resolution to 640x480, make sure the Scaling Filter at the bottom is either "Nearest" or "Linear", and check the "Use original C&C aspect ratio" box. This will give you 640x400 stretched to 640x480, as the game was intended to be viewed.

2. Set the resolution to 640x400, check the "Stretch to custom resolution" box, set the stretch resolution to 640x480, and set the Scaling Filter to "Center". This will give you 640x400 centered in a 640x480 box, exactly like the original C&C95's "640x480" option did.

Another possibility is to set the resolution to 640x400, check the "Stretch to custom resolution" box, set the stretch resolution to 1280x800, and set the Scaling Filter to "Center".

This will give you the game exactly as it would look in 640x400, while the real resolution is simply doubled. And since 1280x800 is a common widescreen resolution, it should be accepted.

If it isn't... you can always play windowed ;)

Thanks! And, it's mostly just me, actually :)

Well, on the hacking front anyway. Despite not being directly involved in the patch creation, hifi definitely deserves some credit for creating the CnC-DDraw dll ( Hifi.iki.fi ) and the new CnCNet system ( Cncnet.org ), and I could never have done it without my faithful 2-man translator team keeping the French and German documentation up-to-date.

I have an FAQ for a reason, you know... and even if that question isn't explicitly in there (the answer is though, on the question whether it works on The First Decade), the fact the FAQ web page's title says "Command & Conquer Gold patch 1.06c Revision 2" should've been a hint.

Further hints are found in the names and descriptions of the available downloads right above this comments section.

Can you create one for C&C TS too?

Ehh, no, it doesn't work like that. I had to research this game for several YEARS before I could even start editing stuff inside it. Program hacking is not easy, and entirely focused on getting to know the innards of this one specific exe file.

Besides, CCHyper, the guy who taught me pretty much everything I know about editing exe files, is creating his own patch for TS. See Ppmsite.com

Might I suggest your next target be The Force Unleashed 1 or 2? You'll gain the thanks of every Lucas Arts fan (or former fan).
