Well, initially, yes. After the first 100 years, though, with the loss of the bases in Lesser Scotia, the native Irish were taken in, and were gallowglass. The constable or leader of the battle remained usually the clan head.

Description

Gallowglasses were descendents of Norsemen who had assimilated into Scots Gaelic culture in the Western Isles. Some such as the McSweeneys ended up settling in Ireland after ending up on the wrong side of Anglo-Scots wars. They served in Irish Gaelic armies in 1245 until at least the Battle of Kinsale in 1601. They continued to wear Norse style chain mail armour. Their preferred weapon was the axe, but two-handed broadswords were also used.
