May 15, 2013 Full Version 29 commentsLatest Version! [REQUIRES COMPANY OF HEROES PATCH 2.700 / "New Steam Version"] Eastern Front Patch 1.80 'Doped Cope'
Welcome to Company of Heroes: Eastern Front!
Eastern Front is a free mod for Company of Heroes. Following the ethos of mimicking a Relic Entertainment expansion pack, Eastern Front has succeeded in adding a full Soviet faction packed with unique and exciting units to the existing armies - a feat never before achieved in the Company of Heroes world.
We are constantly working to improve Eastern Front; our dedicated and experienced development team has worked on the mod for three years, and we don't intend to stop yet. The future will bring new campaigns, new reward units, further game mechanics and an overall better experience, as well as the rugged Ostheer - a unique new Axis faction who will be designed from the ground up to counter the Soviets.
Special thanks to everybody who made this mod possible, including our supporters.
Extra Special Thanks to Christian Werner von Schlippenbach, much admired fellow modder who contributed so much. He will be dearly missed.
Before downloading Eastern Front, please ensure that you have Company of Heroes patched to 2.602, this is vital as the mod relies on certain features from this latest patch. All future updates will be applied automatically through the Launcher.
-Does NOT require an existing Eastern Front install-
-Requires Company of Heroes Patch 2.602-

Hello Eastern Front fans,
It has a while since we posted an announcement, but now we bring some good news: the new version 1.8.0.0 has been released!
What does this patch contain? As you might remember, Company of Heroes' servers from Quazal were shut down in May 7th and Steamworks was integrated on it in order to ensure the multiplayer component remains functional, pushing a new patch within, the version 2.700; this new version made incompatible custom factions with our current set up and also made the Strawman(recrew) bug appear once more.
Now, you might wonder why we delayed so much to fix it, and the answer is just because we were(and still are) busy with our University commitments and other real life issues and just a couple of days ago Cope was able to fix it. This means two things, first one is that Eastern Front is now compatible with the "new released" version on Steam and no longer works with the retail version.
We do no longer support the retail version because we only support the official version, and having different versions of Eastern Front would lead to confusion and would split the community into playing different versions of Eastern Front, something which we are against. Apologizes for any inconvenience related to this decision.
If you are interested in reading the changelog of the new patch, you can check here. If you don't know how to switch your retail CoH into Steam, Relic explains it.
Props to Cope for fixing the strawman bug once more :D!
Since we haven't shown anything new for a while, I'll post a couple of screenshots:

This vehicle is going to replace the Observer Team in the patch 2.0.0.0.
We felt than Soviets needed a light vehicle to fight against enemy snipers properly, we thought about the BA-64, but at the end we preferred this new unit. It used to have a DP-28 in the rear, however ours is equipped with the Maxim 1910 HMG.
Credits to DMz and Beefy^ for the development and set up of this unit.

you might wonder what would be happening to the Observer Team... is it going to disappear? And the answer is no.
The Observer Team(left) will be put as reward unit for the Gaz 43 so, in case your strategy works better with the former, feel free to swap it.
Also, in this image we can see an old friend coming back... the Sniper Team(right) will replace the regular Sniper, and this time he comes to stay. As we become more experienced, we were able to fix the balance issues that this unit got in the past, we have been working on it several months ago, and it was included in the beta since the beginning IIRC. So far there is no issue with it so you can expect to use it on Eastern Front 2.0.0.0 that will be released in the future ;).
You can download the update with the EF launcher.
Thanks for downloading and continue to enjoy,
Eastern Front Development Team

For those who know what Company of Heroes is, I will just review what the Eastern Front mods does. Overview: This mods adds the Soviet Union and soon the Ostheer, or the East Germany Army, to the Company of heroes game. You can still play the other factions, so there isn't a need to panic about not being able to play the Us or the Wermacht. Gameplay: Playing as the Soviets can be both fun and difficult. You begin the game with no engineers, and upgrades cost both fuel and ammo, so you can do what…

Simply, the Soviet faction is crap, the infantry is weak and costs too much, and if you actually can manage to play a game online your bound to get pwned by any other faction, even the US could kick the Soviet's ass easily if you could put them against each other. ------------------------------------------------ Update: Id be happy if they properly balanced their own units. Jagdtigers that are weaker than King Tigers, over expensive upgrades and units, units that aren't equal to the resources they…

Well... These are good news...
Do you really still believe that EF will ever make it to a final stage regarding the following 2 points?
- Now that the relic server ist down and the game doesn't work that well on the %$§§$$$%§%$ Steam server - will there be players left if EF is considered "ready" on a day far far away?
- Will there be enough people caring about COH EF several month (or years) after COH 2 is out?
You can get it to work at all? I can't even do that. I am assumig the ONLY way to play EF for the foreseeable future is "off-line" and vs. AI only.
Does that about sum it up?
Look bro. All the devs need to do now is to fix the Strawman bug, which prevents Soviets and Ostheer to recrew. This bug is fixable because they already did it before. Just that the only bloke who can do it is in the middle of his finals. Which is good news also since we all know that university finals don't last indefinitely.
Thanks "bro"...I was just asking a question. Not being testy. I was, still am impressed that'fish' could get EF to work. I can't even get EF to connect to the Steam server. Keeps telling me to install my disc, which I do. I re-installed EF to the steam directory as instructed, but...nothing. VCOH works, Great War Mod works fine, Modern Combat does connect but cannot play (a fix is coming, so they say) but, EF is totally dead.
The fix is still being worked on, but might not arrive for a few weeks. It's very bad timing for us since most of the team is having to focus on wrapping up Uni stuff.
In the mean time, you can still play EF if you have a physical/virtual disk, and you can still play online using a Virtual LAN program like Hamachi or Tunngle.
And I'm sure there will still be people wanting to play EF once CoH2 is out, there's a lot of people who prefer EF over CoH2 since it's more intuitive and has extra content.
Hey, I get that personal, professional, intellectual, educational, etc. priorities have to be tended to before anything else. Not a problem. I can play "off-line" vs the AI for a while, and eagerly wait for the update. It's a GREAT mod and worth the wait. I am just confused as to why I get no connection from EF at all to the Steam server. Other Mods connect and Great War Mod works fine. Is that to be expected right now? If possible, can you tell me what the correct path should be? I should, at the very least, be able to connect, right? Thanks and keep up the GREAT work!
Relic did something which screwed up how the game handles Extra factions, which is why other mods aren't effected (they replaced existing factions while we've added new ones). We've fixed that particular problem, but now the game crashes when you recrew anything as Soviets/Ostheer. We had this problem in the early days of EF, but we managed to fix it, and we can fix it again, it's just right now we're really strapped for time.
not all the mods, only some
