Eastern Front is a free mod for Company of Heroes. Following the ethos of mimicking a Relic Entertainment expansion pack, Eastern Front has succeeded in adding two full new factions, the Soviet Red Army and the German Ostheer, packed with unique and exciting units to the existing armies - a feat never before achieved in the Company of Heroes world.

Hello Eastern Front fans,

It's time we brought to you the new tech tree for Ostheer because, as you may be aware, it's changed a bit since the last time we released any news about it. Still, change shouldn't come as a surprise as we are still in the alpha phase and this stuff usually happens:

As it is too much information, we have divided it in two different parts, so for now we will start with the first three tiers.

HQ or Tier 0

Units available:

Sdkfz. 9 "Famo"

  • Description: Builder vehicle for Ostheer, no offensive capabilities.
  • Abilities: Supervise(Decreases the building time of every unit of a selected building), Rudimentary Repair, Advanced Repair(after Schutzen War Camp is built) and can construct all the tier buildings available for Ostheer.
  • Upgrades: None.

Opel Blitz

  • Description: Logistic vehicle, required to secure sectors and increases the income of resources. Besides being able to drop Goliaths for a sum of munition, it has no offensive capabilities.
  • Abilities: Drop Goliath, Lock down sector.
  • Upgrades: None.

Upgrades available:

  • Medic Station: Allows the HQ to deploy a healing aura.

Infanterie Gefecht Kommand or Tier 1

Units available:

Landsers

  • Description: Main infantry of Ostheer forces, these squads consist of five soldiers wielding Kar98k rifles and a squad leader who carries a Gewehr 41.
  • Abilities: Throw Stielhandgranate(require Advanced Ordinance), Throw Hafthohlladung(AT grenade - require Advanced Ordinance), Sprint.
  • Upgrades: Gewehr 41 rifles(requires Basic Modernisation).

Stormpioneers

  • Description: Support squad made of three soldiers armed with MP41 smgs.
  • Abilities: Wire cutters, Lay down S-mines, Repair and Demo charges(requires Advanced Ordinance).
  • Upgrades: Flammenwerfer 42(requires Basic Modernisation), Minesweeper.

Upgrades available:

  • Advanced Ordinance: Unlocks demo charges for Stormpioneers and grenade throwing abilities for Landsers.
  • Basic Modernisation: Unlocks flamethrowers for Stormpioneers and Gewehr 41 rifles for Landsers.

Infanterie Gruppen Post or Tier 2

Units available:

LMG Team

  • Description: Neutral unit of this building, these squads consist of four soldiers wielding a MG34 light machine gun and three MP41s submachine guns. They're intended to be an offensive squad so they have high mobility while lower suppression power. Their suppression power can be increased temporarily by using the "Hot Barrel" ability.
  • Abilities: Hot barrel.
  • Upgrades: None.

Assault Pool: Kübelwagen

  • Description: Support vehicle which carries an MG34 on it's rear, it helps to detect cloaked units and also to harass infantry squads. It can be upgraded with a second gunner.
  • Abilities: Detect hidden units.
  • Upgrades: Passenger gunner(requires Support Crew Modernisation).

Assault Pool: Marksman

  • Description: A sharpshooter unit carrying the Walther variant of the Mkb42, the Marksman can either utilise single-shot mode to snipe units from afar, or burst-mode which deals more damage but cannot snipe infantry.
  • Abilities: Camouflage, Burst-Shot(requires Support Crew Modernisation).
  • Upgrades: None.

Support Pool: PaK 36

  • Description: Light anti-tank gun, it can be easily repositioned from place to place due to it's small size. It cannot cloak but it can fire Stielgranate ammo once a Schutzen War Camp is built. Requires Support Crew Modernisation to be unlocked.
  • Abilities: Stielgranate 41 shot.
  • Upgrades: None.

Support Pool: Infantry Support Gun

  • Description: Weapon team which uses the leIG18 infantry support gun to support your troops. It grants indirect fire support over any position within it's range. It can also use smoke shells to cover allied infantry.
  • Abilities: Barrage, Smoke barrage.
  • Upgrades: None.

Upgrades available:

  • Assault Pool: Unlocks Kübelwagen and Marksman. Disables Infantry Support Gun and PaK 36.
  • Support Pool: Unlocks Infantry Support Gun and PaK 36. Disables Kübelwagen and Marksman.
  • Support Crew Modernisation: Unlocks Burst-mode ability for Marksman, increases the suppression granted by Hot Barrel for LMG34 team, smoke rounds for the leIG18, the additional LMG upgrade for Kübelwagen and the PaK 36.

In the next days we will post the missing information ;).

We removed it from the concept because it wasn't needed. So far Marder II with Panzerjagers is a terrific combo.

isn't that like just the way PE does it? :/

and both factions add the flavour with the AT-grenades & pak36, PE's mounted on a halfie.

But yeah a mobile pak40 makes no sense since even the QF 17pdr seems way to big to be dragged around without it looking stupid.

We couldn't find other ways to face armoured units rather than using such combo (Marder II + Panzerjagers).

Marder II might look like a variant of the Marder III, but the difference is than our Panzerjagers are cooler than PE tank busters and they aren't "fillers" for the building :).

The only similar thing between AT-grenades and pak36 between PE & OH is than PE's HT has that weapon. Hafthohlladungs are not PE AT-grenades, so the only common thing is than both belong to the same group of weapons.

In the alpha footage I saw both Sturmtiger and Ferdinant gun platforms, but I don't see them in the tech tree. Are they reward units?

We have omitted information about the Command Trees, but so far Sturmtiger is a call-in ability for Elite Army Troops, reward unit of the Brummbar. Ferdinant is for Fortress Army Troops.

Most likely, it will remain for the closed beta.
