Eastern Front is a free mod for Company of Heroes. Following the ethos of mimicking a Relic Entertainment expansion pack, Eastern Front has succeeded in adding two full new factions, the Soviet Red Army and the German Ostheer, packed with unique and exciting units to the existing armies - a feat never before achieved in the Company of Heroes world.

Hello Eastern Front fans!

It is this time of the year once more! How fast the time goes... the Mod of the Year 2012 is here! We are at the Top 100 competition right now, let's advance to the next round!

To vote for us in MOTY please click here.

When you click on the link above you will be redirected to this section:

Then click on VOTE over our entry and you will know you voted because it will appear like this:

You can cast your vote a single time for any mod you like, so it is not limited to one mod only.

Thanks to your support we have been around one year more and in a way to say thanks, we have prepared some surprises for the next days, but right now we will unveil this: We are now on Steam Greenlight!

Probably there are some players than already heard about it. To check our project, you can visit this link. You must be logged in to vote though. Remember, Eastern Front will remain free regardless it goes live on Greenlight.

Right now we are trying to set up everything for the Beta, in order to be started this month, however, we have too many things to do and very few time to commit... we'll do our best guys ;). Also, we have some models finished, than I'm sure a lot of players were expecting to hear of them:

Also, we would like to wish good luck to our brothers from Modern Combat, Blitzkrieg Mod, ZombieMod, Afrika Mod, The Great War.

Thanks for your support! May the best mod win!

Greenlight, eh? :)

As a side note, how do you think you'll fare against Company of Heroes 2? The alpha has been released, and I hear it's quite chock-full of features.

@The Soldier
Yeah, we have heard of them :).

However, regardless of CoH 2 being released or not, if players have interest in adding EF to Steam, so be it :).

First of all best of luck with the MOTY awards may the best mod win.
Now addressing your Steam Greenlight subject. You are aware you are not following the rules for Greenlight games. For instance you need special authorization from the respective game developer to post stuff on Greenlight if you have not made the game. Seeing as EF is a mod just like BK we did not develop the game.
Or do you have specific authorization from Relic to post your mod on Greenlight?

We do not need authorization from Relic, we need it from THQ, which was already discussed with them.

I'd like to see that permission. Not that I'm begrudging you on Greenlight. But I have some doubts, as you are giving out copyrighted material with your mod download.

@Ruhrpottpatriot Would you kindly point out once piece of copyrighted material contained in the mod, that we haven't been allowed to use by the copyright holder, please?

Ruhrpottpatriot Dec 22 2012, 6:23pm replied:

The voices of the Russians. They are, as you know, the voices of the U.S. faction from the Russian CoH version stripped of some lines (*cough* T-34 reporting as Sherman in old versions *cough*). I don't know if you have permission from THQ to use them, if you have (and I'd know who gave you permission, so I can ask him if we could distribute the German voices with BK).

At least here in Germany that is against copyright laws.
Also modding in general is a very very grea area, but that is a different topic.

Even without permission this would fall well within the realm of fair use, as would most modding issues. If the guys at Relic/THQ/Greenlight think we've breached anything and remove us from Steam, so be it, but regardless it's still of nobody's concern besides our own.

Well If you say so. I don't have my qualification for Anglo-American law yet so I'm not that good at subsuming your mod under the terms of fair use, but I can tell you here in Germany it would definitely be a breach of copyright (as the European law does not know an institution like fair-use. It's purely American).

As great as I want COH 2 to be, hope this mod doesn't die :(

I guess think of this mod being for the people who are reluctant to get CoH 2 or possibly can't afford it?

Well, hopefully the release of the Ostheer will bring back some uniquity and blur the parallels enough keep people playing for a good while. There's certainly stuff in the Ostheer that you won't be seeing in CoH2.

putoconcarne Dec 13 2012, 12:44pm replied:

Don't worry, I'm convinced that CoH 2 probably won't include the British and American factions at first release, so this mod will always have the edge of having more factions and thus, more unique match-ups---9 as opposed to just 1. That is, of course, until the expansions add more factions into the fray. But for the meanwhile, I'm sure that CoH:EF will still remain as strong and active as it is now even after CoH 2 is released. :)

in fact in a 3vs3 you have 2^6 possible match ups ;)

Nope, it would be a mod and you would need a to have bought any CoH game in order to use it.

Judging from the alpha, not much. I mean, besides the units and stuff (which was pretty unavoidable), CoH2 plays quite different to CoH1 or EF.
