Though, I like the idea, I don't think a system this complicated is really necessary. I'm afraid it might be too buggy and a lot of work. I, personally, would be perfectly fine with just "Missile" and "Gun" ranges.
each aircraft will posses especific weapons systems, this is a description of the range of each type of weapon, it doesn't mean that each aircraft would carry short,medium and long range weapons; it would brake the AI(I've tested it).
Nonte: a single aircraft could carry short and medium range missiles, and be upgraded to Medium and long range missiles.
I'm a gamer as well, and I'm not planning to increase the complexity if it risks the gameplay nor would I take out the fun. ^^
Okay, it seems you have this figured out ^_^ I was just afraid 4 different weapon systems for 1 plane would be too much.
