This is a full conversion Tolkien mod for Crusader Kings 2 which will feature bookmarks throughout the Third Age. This mod is being developed independently from any other LotR or Middle Earth mods out there. The map will cover the main areas of Middle Earth, known in the books and films. So, Middle-Earth is waiting for you! Will you play as the descendant of one of the noble families of Rohan or Gondor? Will you try to reforge the ancient kingdoms of Elves in Eriador? Or will you try to destroy all the Free Peoples, and claim Middle Earth for Morgoth? This mod will give you a unique strategy experience of the Third Age in Middle-Earth. From Forodwaith to Bellakar, from Lindon to Rhûn, lead your dynasty and survive the Dark Times. Become one of the most important Lords of the Age!

FULL PATCH

We have been working over the past week to fix bugs and enhance the mod, with many of the changes coming from your feedback! We can't thank you enough for your support and the interest has been a great motivation for all of us on the team. Your suggestions have allowed us to improve on our little mod and we hope you like the new patch!

Please remember that this is still only an early beta, there will be problems, there will be "What the-" moments, but we are making progress. But now, here's a small showcase of some of the new features and fixes in this next patch.

Trading Guilds
We have implemented three 'Trading Guilds' based on the Republic DLC from CK2. There is the Gondorian Guild of Venturers based in Pelargir, the Black Fleet of Umbar and the Sindar Mariners of Lindon. Explore a new style of play as you try to maintain and expand your trade empire even as the world around you spirals downward.

New Events
A multitude of new events have been added and we have tweaked some based on player feedback.

  • The colonisation system has been overhauled and made more interesting and dynamic. It is now slightly harder than just pressing a single decision button to change the culture of a province to your own. New random events mean the success of a colony is decided partly by you, and partly by luck. To balance this, vassals are now able to colonise on your behalf.
  • For Dwarf lovers there is now an event chain for the Dwarves which, if Sauron is defeated, gives them claims on Moria - the former Kingdom of Khazad-Dum - and Mount Gundabad, allowing them to be reclaimed for Durin's folk!
  • Evil players will be happy to learn Sauron now gets a claim on a neighbouring 'Good' region every 5 years after 11375, to allow expansion beyond Gondor (if the courage of men fails).
  • And finally, there is a new event chain for characters which hold both High Kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor past the year 14000, well into the 4th age. These new events will make it harder to hold both titles, and encourage a division of the Reunited Kingdom.

Other Notable Changes

New Incapable and other health events (affects Numenoreans and Dwarves mostly).Half-Elves if anyone ever manages to sire one, live to be 150-250ish (Yes, I know Elros lived 450ish, but this is late in the 3rd age, and you're just the descendant of a Silvan Elf, not a royal line with Maiar blood).
  • Changed "Invasion" casus belli for hostile religions/cultures, it now only works on duchies not whole kingdoms.
  • Added a Human Infertility trait instead of using a fixed amount of time in defines, this allows Elves to continue being fertile for up to 5000 years.
  • Dunlending claims on Rohan now fire correctly.
  • New characters such as the descendants of Azaghâl or Telchar, as well as more Dwarves and playable Kingdoms of Nurunkhizdin and Zirakdum.
  • New Interface by Talias from the Witcher mod. Special thanks for them! A new mini-map has been added too!

Full changelog included with the download.

You should use in-movie character avatars.

A few problems with that:
It would legally speaking be a hassle.
Those without portraits would look much worse in comparison.
Someone would have to look for good frames/scenes for a portrait, one where the face was clean and in focus, which is rare for any non-major character.

I know but there should be a way to overthrow that "Adam" guy and take back numenor. And you should have elven bloodlines like the blood of elrond trait for all his descendants have the trait. Like the blood of Numenor trait that was a master stroke.I love the bloodlines feature in ElderKings, and it would be cool for that to be in this LOTR mod.

No, Numenor can't return, that won't be lore-accurate, and we're trying to be ;)
For the blood of Elrond, it doesn't make sense for me, because of the "elf" trait. The Heir of Isildur trait and the bloods of Numenor ones are enough i suppose, or maybe an "Heir of the Durin" one could be added...

Also I wanted to know if you needed a loremaster because i feel bad that you have all this weight on your shoulders. I have read every single Middle Earth book (including the Silmaril) And I love the lore and i have some ideas to improve the mod. Thanks for replying to my thoughts.

When i play with the Dwarves(Durin's Folk Empire, to be precisely), my sucession laws keep changing to open elective, intantly or when my character dies, and i cant change it back. It is just me or happens to everyone? Excluding that, great mod.

I feel like nothing would really happen after Gondor/Mordor falls. Conquer the world, then what? That's always been bothering me about this mod. Conquering Gondor/Mordor is an easier feat that it looks too (if you get the ring and/or Mordor wrecks Gondor)

What happens afterwards? I feel like Middle-Earth is just a bit too small for CK 2 - kingdom wise anyway.

This problem is because of a wrong installation : if you installed the mod in the game folder, it's wrong. You'll have to remove it from there, and install in "Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/mod"

Xire70 Mar 25 2014, 5:45am says:

I'm enjoying playing this mod, however the current implementation of this join 'good' / 'evil' sides seems really broken to me.

So I'm playing as Aragorn and I stole the One Ring from Frodo when the game started. Then I conquered most of the surrounding land, apppointed appropriate Lords of all the counties, and was well on my way to forming the Empire of Arnor when suddenly Aragorn decides he can no longer stand to deny Sauron, and joins the evil side.

Moments later I am bombarded by my 110+ vassals unanimously rejecting me - despite almost all of them being 100 opinion. Within days I went from having 110+ vassals, to having 2 counties (4 mayors); every count level vassal gets a free indefensible independence from the Kingdom... something you cannot do in any other situation. Normally they would have to form a plot, or get a faction, then actually fight their ruler. But he joins the evil side? Free independence for literally everyone who wants it.

So I thought, **** that. I reloaded an older save game and decide to just go full blown tyrant. Revoke all titles I can from all vassals, then imprison and execute literally everyone in my realm including all mayors/courtiers - 50+ people. So Aragorn the lone king with 77 counties and no vassals is sitting there alone in his castle and decides he wants new mayors who don't have -2000 opinion like the old ones. So he appoints new mayors, who love him. And a day later, bam... "Are ye mad Aragorn!? We can't follow Sauron! I break all ties with you, dog!"
Repeat ad nausium... Aragorn the lonely cannot have any vassals, not even mayor/barons, because they immediately rebel - they don't hate him either, they just won't stay loyal. Because he's evil, or something. And does that one lone evil Orc county as part of my kingdom want to become a vassal? Nope, wrong culture! As it is, it seems to be a literal impossibility to succeed as an evil character unless you already start with like Orcs as vassals.
