This project is currently in WIP of the City Assault 2 mod, entitled City Decedere.
This is a Horror game, assisting my 3rd year Dissertation at University “a theoretical study into the horror genre and psychological fear, evaluated by an implementation of such fear evoking stimuli in a game engine.”

The first level released on the 10th February was the first level in the story – called Happening. This has more of a Western take on horror.

The second level is called Darkness; it will continue on the story and will have more of a Japanese take on horror. This promises to be a much scarier level than the first :P

The mod overall doesn’t as of yet have a proper story, as for the purpose of the uni project, it is more a demonstration level. After I have finished uni, I will continue to create more levels for the mod, and implement a proper storyline.

I have some good news and some bad news - the bad news is that because of my uni deadline, I only managed to complete half the intended level of Darkness, in the one month. The rest of the level will be completed over summer. The good news is that it is much scarier than the first level


This level continues the story of the first level, which left off John and Amy trapped inside a bomb shelter, trying to find their way back to the city. As part of my university studies, I have included in the zip folder a link to an Online Questionnaire. The questionnaire will help me in my studies and also help me make the map better, so please fill it in as it is only short. The level is much scarier, having stuck more to psychological stimuli, researching from experiments and other games, as well as the helpful feedback from those that played the first level, which is why the questionnaire feedback is important to me, to make the game scarier, so please find 5 mins after playing the game to fill out the questionnaire :D

I tried and tried again to like this mod, truthfully, I don't.
I can see a lot of work went into this thing but it just isn't cutting it.

It isn't scary, it isn't surprising, just old classy 1980 screamer movie work.

Sure, I suppose the headless dummy from Jaws might still scare some people, but at this rate I'm just wondering if I should turn the audio even louder and simulate a heart attack with my subwoofer instead of the high pitched noises slamming through the speakers, ultimately only deafening me, and not scaring me at all.

It is a nice attempt but, actually try to make it scary. Stop trying to rip things from Dead Space and FEAR, for starters, Dead Space is a 'screamer scare' game, it ain't funny and it ain't scary, especially not scary. FEAR just has a nice dynamic story line and atmosphere, yet really isn't all that scary.

Then comes your game with pretty much 'visually' pre-fabricated maps (seriously are we playing half-life 2 or what?) and uninteresting cheapass-grab-cam-scream-in-face-tactics to scare you.

Sorry, but that's just my two... five... ten... fifty cents.
Try throwing in an interesting story line instead of dropping people in with no freakin' idea why what who when and where. That's what got me into the FEAR series. That and just drop the entire screamer parts, unless you plan on actually making them usefull instead of practically insta killing the player, I'm not playing Ghouls VS Humans here.

Alright I'll take it back about the atmosphere, it really kept me intrigued in the darkness and all that stuff but it's just lacking that oomph feeling. You need to kick it and kick it hard to keep yourself going through instead of tapping out not knowing it'll actually get better later on.

stfu noob this is crysis and it is much harder to work with it as hl1 or source . Good job mate you do this for fun and not for money . And i know it is hard with those trolls on moddb.

Dave has a point, alot needs to be redone. But you have a point too, that the cryengine 2 is acually very hard to use. If you aint one of the makers of crysis you have a very low know-how about it and this mod got very high on the custom parts.

Still it aint scary enough, Some parts might freak you out if your running from something that is almost killing you and you cant see it. But still its just a game. Takes alot to scare me. The only times I infact get scared is when I play ZPS and get a zombey from nowhere almost raping me.

GW to you modder, but this mod IS just not great enough to get a 10!

lol its true - level 1 is rather lame and not how i expected it to turn out at all.
i hope that with level 2 fully made i can make it scary - but yh - not knowing how to edit the lua AI files is a big draw back. i dont think i can make it really scary - but i hope at least its a fun level to play if not scary

The demo was pretty nice but ya know, still those screamer tactics I really got alot against.

:S, this needs improvements **** load, but it was great. got scared few times :) i did have my sound loud. HAd to turn it down when the girl was screaming, didnt want the neighbors to think i was rapeing a girl >:D

lol, that was actually what I was a bit worried about, my parents thinking I was watching some sortof video with a girl dying or being raped or something :S

Amazing... but fix some spawn triggers because i saw enemies spawn and when i walked into that room the trailer was in i saw the person standing up and then she crouched, just a few things you could fix but amazing nonetheless

if you use the flashlight to blam enemies, it should fail after a while :/ Ive tested it with my own. Had to buy a new one :

Also, the first level wont work. It just adds a weapon and hands then goes to "contact" which is the first level of Crysis.

holy hax! Those bitchez in the end was scary. But i had ma sledge and ma meds, so i were fine.

Some minor fixes/idea to be made should be:

Remove @ thats infront of all things :/
Those doors on the way down till the end, you can walk through them.
Add more ammo
Add a P228 instead of that Glock 19, because it sucks.
Add a assault rifle or other (smg? ump45?)
Fixes on persons, models, walkings.
When the game autosaves, it creats an invisible wall if your moving.

Please fix/add these things (unless you disagree) :)
