Celeritas Eos is an open world dark fantasy horror survival role playing game set on a fictional world with a low fantasy setting. Intended to be a four part series, the series starts with Equilibrium of The Night where you will assume the role of a set protagonist although subsequent titles in the series after Equilibrium will feature your own custom characters.
The first module in the series - Equilibrium of The Night - takes place in the land of Eridanus and features a woman named Lucia who journeys to there to stop an evil occurring within Castle Lox Avue. This evil is very powerful and is impacting the whole world by making zombies and other abominations arise all over it prompting knights, warriors and even ordinary people to journey to Eridanus to help fight against the source of where all of the evil is coming from.
Boy, have I been slacking. We haven't had a Dev Diary here since 2013! I could list all the excuses I have, but it's better to get to brass and tell you all about what's happening with Cleritas Eos these days.
Unfortunately I don't have much in the way of tangible content to share today. Right now the mod is in that awkward, notoriously un-sexy stage between putting down the basic code and generating solid quests and characters where I'm just polishing existing features and getting the game ready for everything we plan to throw into it. A big focus has been on the AI and optimization. We want most NPCs to have a survival instinct, running away to safety when injured or avoiding a fight entirely. We also need them to avoid walking into fiery pits of death (as much as I love watching that). There's also the issue that there is a LOT of AI activity going on in this game, yet the aging Neverwinter Nights engine doesn't know how to use extra processor cores, so it's like designing a game for a Pentium PC.
From a creative side, one thing I've wanted to do is really flesh out all of the different factions you'll meet in the nation of Eridanus. There are many armies public and private that will help (or hinder) your search for an end to Lox Avue's terror, and we really want players to feel invested with the fate of each group.
One of my favorite factions in the game is the Order of Verbum Dei. Aside from having some of the sexiest armor in the game, this army of clerics and warrior monks make their home base in a huge gothic cathedral up in the Mountains of Glon, where they pray on Sundays and learn how to kick ass Monday through Saturday. The Order means well, but they have a bloody past that has left a taint on their legacy few in Eridanus are willing to overlook. As you work with this group, you might come to realize that like many things in Eridanus, something sinister lurks within.
Like any classic RPG, Celeritas Eos involves some tough moral choices, but right and wrong are much more transparent here than in most games. Sometimes the choices thrown at you touch upon real-world issues, and sometimes there are no happy solutions. The quest I'm writing for the Order of Verbum Dei is one such personal topic. It's an ugly subject that will hit hard when you discover it and make you think about how you yourself would act in such a situation rather than how you can get your character more lawful points.
Of course you can ignore that quest entirely and explore the rest of the Mountains of Glon. KnightofEquulei has already created a world nothing short of massive, and once we get it fully populated, you won't be able to spit in the air without it landing on another side quest or rampaging monster. Hopefully we can give you a hands-on taste of it soon.
That's all for now. Next Dev Diary should have more concrete topics as quests, NPCs and areas solidify.
