This mod is for all the players frustrated with the cartoony nature of Zero Hour units and buildings. We intend to replace every fanciful unit in Zero Hour with its closest possible real world equivalent, without changing the unit's capabilities.

Type 98 was replaced with the Type 99 and the current versions in service are A1/A2 variants.

I would also suggest instead of the Type 85 to have the Type 96 as it more common in service than the Type 99. I still agree with the idea of the Type 99 as the Overlord but have the Type 96 as the Battlemaster.

While its true that there are about twice as many Type 96 as Type 85, Type 96 and 99 look very, very similar.

I'd be concerned that players will have difficulty differentiating the two. I originally had Type 69 as battlemaster because not only was the "real" battlemaster based on it, it was one of the few tanks that can immediately be differentiated from a Type 99.

It really does make more sense, but it may severely effect gameplay. I'd have to think about it.

I think the Type 69 and Type 59 would be more suitable for the GLA.

The Type 96 and Type 99 are similar but this modification is a visual reality mod. Why not present the reality and that is the Type 96 is the mass main battle tank in service (excluding the Type 59 series).

How about this idea:

Replacing the regular battlemaster with the Type 59D

Replacing the nuclear battlemaster with the Type 96.

Well GLA is going to stick with T-55, type 59/69 will most likely be thrown out for China.

I'd have to find a good way to make a clear difference between 96 and 99 for them to both be in game.

Type 59D still in service? Then I might consider it, looks good.

Type 69 is used by reserve and training units. It would make more sense to have the T-62 and the Type 69 for the GLA as the Marauder tank and have the T-55 as the Scorpion tank or the T-34-85 Model 1960 for the Scorpion.

Around 5,000 Type 59 were in service as of 2010 with an unknown number being Type 59D (WZ-120C).

I would therefore suggest the following:

1. Normal Battlemaster: Type 59D
2. Nuclear Battlemaster: Type 96A

Also China doesn't use the hind. I would suggest replacing it with the WZ-10 or the WZ-19. Here are some good pictures of the WZ-10 in PLA Army service:

China-defense.blogspot.ca

Also how about replacing China's transport aviation in-game with either the Y-8 , Y-9 or the Il-76MD.

Finally will the Xian H-6 be the H-6K model ?

While I don't agree with the GLA suggestions (except T-55 will stay as scorpion), your numbered suggestions (59D, 96A) will most likely be the final selections for battlemaster/nuke battlemaster; with overlord being Type-99 and Emperor overlord being MBT-3000. Unfortunately there is a mod that uses type-59d Moddb.com and I don't really want to be a copycat... so I'm still not sure.

Originally hind was added because it was bad-*** and we were squeezing north korea and china together, will probably replace with something because its one of the crappier models in the mod. WZ-10 may be inappropriate because its supposed to be a transport chopper as well.

Will almost certainly end up being this:

En.wikipedia.org

The Xian H-6 will be whichever variant this one is:

Ok I can agree with the T-55 being the Scorpion tank. However I think a good choice for the Marauder tank would be the T-72M export version:

Armor.kiev.ua

A good example of this is the fact many 3rd world countries used the T-72 primarily the M export version and it would fit in the surplus soviet technology exported.

For the GLA Transport plane you can use either the An-12 or the Il-76MD and for the Chinese you can use either the Y-8 , Y-9 or the Il-76MD.

Finally I agree with the Mi-17/171 being the replacement for the Hind. Particularly because the WZ-10 is not intended as a transport helicopter but as an attack helicopter.

Heres some info on the Chinese Mi-17:

Sinodefence.com

Here is some good pictures as well:

1.bp.blogspot.com

3.bp.blogspot.com

Finally the Xian H-6 you have showed is not the Bomber version but the Refueling version. Look here for reference:

En.wikipedia.org

So really the current Xian H-6 in Visual Reality mod is the HY-6U refueling version and not the bomber version.

Here is what a H-6M looks like from the belly:

Note the absence of those re-fueling pods. However since this is a visual reality mod the decision would have to be between the cruise missile carrier (H-6H,H-6M,H-6K) that is currently in service and the H-6E/F which is the non cruise missile carrier.

Finally I still believe the Type 59D should be the battlemaster. There are as of 2010 roughly 5,000 Type 59 versions in service with an unknown number being the Type 59D version upgrade since certification for production and modernization in the 1990's.

It wouldn't be a copy cat move to include the Type 59D it would present the reality and that is the visual reality. That is what this mod is based off and that is the reality.

Since BossGeneral wining so much about adding the Type 59 in the game I suggest you add the Type 59 II "G" variant of it ( Armyrecognition.com ). It's a upgrade for the Type 59 China offers.

And BossGeneral in reality China scraped most of their Type 59's and replaced the with Type 96 as their main MBT. Approximately 2000 Type 96 has been built. The Type 59D may serve as reserve but it no hell way serve as the frontline tank. And it most definitely won't be tank china will produce for fighting a war of attrition.

I would therefore suggest the following:

1. Normal Battlemaster: Type 96A ( Military-today.com )
2. Nuclear Battlemaster: Type 96G ( Military-today.com )

As of 2010 there are roughly 5,000 Type 59 main battle tanks in service with the PLA. An unknown number are of the Type 59D version. By the end of decade however the Type 96 will replace the Type 59 as the most numerous tank in PLA service but as of the moment the Type 59 is the most numerous. Only 550 - 1,000 have been decommissioned or scrapped since 2000.

The Type 62 has been decommissioned from service and will subsequently be scrapped. See here:

China-defense.blogspot.ca

The Type 59G variant is an export variant. The PLA does not at all use that variant. It would not make sense to give China the export variant that foreign operators are using.

As for Marauder tank I have already suggested the T-72M export variant in various stages for the junk/salvage upgrades also known as the T-72 'Monkey' export model due to downgraded electronics/hardware.

In regards to the T-72BM. It is incorrectly called the T-72BM. The Russians don't refer to it as the BM they refer to it as the T-72B Model 1988/1989/1990 depending on the batch and when the Kontakt-5 was installed.

The T-72B M88/89/90 is only in service with Russia and the difference externally between the T-90S is minor and players would have difficulty distinguishing the differences aside from the 'Shtora' , Side Panels and a few other external parts that differ. The T-90 as well is in service with very few countries and none of those countries would qualify as 'Insurgent' or 'Rogue' nations/groups that the GLA would represent aside from Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. However those countries (Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan) don't have sufficient quantities of the T-90S and would be unlikely to part ways with the T-90S.

Lastly the Lion of Babylon / Asad Babil are the same tank. It was produced from 1989-1990 and is a domestic production variant of the T-72M. It appears very few were built before the arms embargo came into effect and some sources claim up to 100. That figure could possibly include imported T-72's modified to Asad Babil standards.

Apparently though the Iraqi modified T-72's were actually better suited to desert conditions than regular Russian T-72's through modification of shock absorbers on the tank (primarily through reduction) and they also had the capability to use exhaust to funnel sand/dust as an entrenching tool.

Furthermore, the Bm-21 should be replaced by the Iranian Safir jeep Postimage.org or the Tosan MLRS Media.moddb.com as the Bm-21 is too bulky to accurately portray the Rocket buggy.

And the Marauder tank should be replaced by the Zulfiqar tanks with upgrades being:
Zulfiqar 1: Military-today.com
Zulfiqar 2(Salvage2): Military-today.com
Zulfiqar 3(Salvage3): Military-today.com

And the Quad canon should be replace with the ZSU-23-4 with upgrades being:
ZSU-23-4: Upload.wikimedia.org
ZSU-23-4M4 (Salvage2): Palba.cz
ZSU-23-4MP "Biała"(Salvage3): Armyrecognition.com

That would be more more realistic as "upgrades" are suppose to improve the vehicle rather than completely replace it.

Just doing some criticism hope you don't mind.

Safir rocket variant jeep is much, much more rare in the field than the BM-21. Typically "budget" mobile rocketry in low intensity conflicts is Grad. GLA supposed to represent loose amalgamation of insurgency movements -> surplus soviet crap.

There simply aren't enough decent blueprints online to make an accurate zulfiqar.

Also if I consistently use Iranian vehicles GLA will be "Iran" instead of GLA. :)

The second stage upgrade for the Quad is already the Shilka.

The fact that the entire vehicle changes with junk upgrades is for visual clarity, given that there is sometimes not a readily apparent difference to someone not paying very close attention. Also a bit for fun and variety! Good criticism though, I don't like the current Battlemaster and wanted to bring in the T-85 currently set as nuke battlemaster.

I do sort of like the idea junk upgrades being minor, but eh. There are pros and cons.

ZTZ-99A1 is a Main battle tank and at a weight of 57 tonnes it doesn't classify as a light tank. There is also no other suitable tanks that would fit the role of overlord than the 99A1 version. Type 96A/G is not an overlord replacement that's suitable either.

99A1 fits as the overlord due to the following:

1. Weight
2. Weapon loadout and configuration.
3. Number produced / in service.
4. Used by Class A units.

ZTZ-99 is a comparably light MBT (compared to much heavier Western tanks, which you are going to let it crush, lol). It's a modern tank, but not anything can be seen as an "Overlord". Besides, as I said, it's the fastest modern MBT.
If you see ingame a slow-moving, over-armored ZTZ-99 crushing Abramses and Leo-2s - it's no way "visual reality" :P

On the other hand - K2 Black Panther, it visually looks more massive (although 2 tonns lighter IRL), more armored and can possibly mount a 140-mm cannon - together making a better impression of an Overlord. The only drawback is it's South Korean, but hey, you already implicated Leo-2 for USA, so why to worry :P Besides, you'll need anyway a tank more massive than ZTZ-99 as there's also a vacancy for Emperor tank.

You see mass and speed as important, we see comparative combat ability as important.

Choosing a slow and heavy tank makes no sense if it is a weak and incapable one. Choosing a South-Korean MBT makes far less sense even.

We've gone with the choice that for China makes the most sense. Emperor Overlord will be Type 99A2. Leo 2 probably isn't staying in the mod either, and if you'd actually read the FAQ you'd have seen faction USA was reclassified "NATO" specifically for it.

1. ZTZ-99 is actually the heaviest tank in PLA service even heavier than the historic WZ-111 which itself is based on the IS-3.

2. It's a fast modern main battle tank that's true but then again compare the engine used on the ZTZ-99A1 with most other main battle tanks in the same category and you will see that most of them are underpowered or focus on other design aspects at the expense of speed.

3. K2 Black Panther is a South Korean produced and designed main battle tank. It still exists in Prototype form and has not entered service and will not enter for a few more years (2014).

4. Type 99KM which is a prototype version of the Type 99 is rumored to mount a 155mm cannon. This means that the Type 99 has the capability to refit or accommodate a 140mm/152mm/155mm cannon.

5. Leopard 2 is included because the United States in Visual Reality is in fact NATO.

6. Type 99A2 will be the Emperor Overlord Tank and it is a heavier and more menacing version of the 99A1.
