This mod is for all the players frustrated with the cartoony nature of Zero Hour units and buildings. We intend to replace every fanciful unit in Zero Hour with its closest possible real world equivalent, without changing the unit's capabilities.

And the turret doesn't rotate, just like the "real" Marauder.

I hope it bulks up with salvage upgrades... The model's great, but not something I would expect for the Marauder... Anyway, great model

This looks awesome! :D

I might get flak for this or unintentionally **** you off, but you are aware that the Marauder Tank is actually a self-propelled gun and not a real tank right? Did any SPGs came through your mind when you were working on it's replacement?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+5 votes

Not SPGs, but TD. Egyptian T34 mod with fixed cannon was considered, but it was too wacky.

Also Marauder is tank, not SPG (unit actually refers to itself as a tank).

And no, not ****** off!

Do you considered my suggestion for the turret rotation doc?

And so you are taking the M/Fullkit/S pattern?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

Your suggestion could still bug out when the tank needs to move immediately after shooting, in essence the hull could glide over terrain while at an odd angle.

Still it might look less weird than a T-72 that turns like a dirt bike. Just saying.

I've already played with it in-game for a week, and it honestly isn't that jarring to have the entire tank rotate to fire (probably because I'm just used to the way the marauder works) so secretly I know it isn't really a big issue :)

Sorry if this annoys you and i know you'll know whats best for the mod but, The T-72 does have a rotational turret, i understand your goals are to achieve realism, the T-72 takes up to 21 seconds to rotate its turret 360 degrees, so instead of having a stationary turret(which personally ****** me off due to the un-realism of a tank) just have a slow rotating one, so the Armour compensates for slow reaction. cheers.

They're not changing gameplay, slugger. I don't get what's so hard to grasp about that.

The marauder doesn't have a rotating turret. Thus, the new model won't either.

that really wouldn't change gameplay .... so long as the turret speed is the same as the whole tank turning in game it would be fine gameplay wise.

In fact allowing the turret to turn is really more of an aesthetic upgrade than changing game play.

Glad everyone in the comments has put more thought into this than we have. Lol!

How would you suggest to solve the problem of the tank rotating its turret 90 degrees right and then having to move immediately afterwards? Yeah, it would then be moving exactly sideways. Wouldn't really look so good.

you could code the dam thing to turn its hull while keeping its turret pointing at the enemy or in what ever direction you want it to go.

And even if you did code "mod" the game to allow this its still primarily an aesthetic change.

Making T-72 without turret rotation is bad idea. Try other some other tank. Giving Marauder rotation ability will not effect balance of the game.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes
rkraptor70

Please suggest one. However they have to fulfill the following requirements:

1. Exits in real life.
2. Entered mass production.
3. Entered service in any mid east nation.
4. Used my mid-east army/militias.
5. Can be found in large numbers around the world.

The only real life unit that matches the Marauder is the German Versuchsträger or VT tank which is never went beyond prototype stage and only 7 were built. So the tank is out of the question.

Yes, it would. Marauder cannot move in any direction except where its cannon is pointing.

Try coping the code from light tank and just give different values. In short that means making another light tank just give him code/value to be market as marauder tank. I don't know how hard is to read to code in C&C, but renaming another light tank into marauder "should" be easy. Of course if you want to keep visual reality and don't want to change the units ability then you must use SPG or TD, SU-100 is then only option. There is also "Stridsvagn 103" but it hasn't been used in middle east.. T-72 is build for fast, big number and flanking attacks,so T-72 is the last tank to have fixed gun. Anyway, you are doing a great job!

Or maybe create a separate unit file, for people who want, that make the T-72 turret rotate. So everyone would have the choice between strictly keeping Generals gameplay, or have a more realistic T-72.

Yeah. In-game it looks just fine. TBH the bursts are pretty simultaneous so you barely notice that two shells are fired.

Actually giving it a Two round burst would be similar to giving it the 9M119 "Svir" ATGM on the 9K120 system so it's realistic. Essentially it gives it real-life capabilities.

Nice to see the T-72 Ural. Very versatile and powerful tank when used in the right hands and with the right training.

For anyone wanting to mention about the T-72M/M1 versus Abrams please don't. Monkey Export Models with Ammunition dating back to the 1960's/1970's in the export kit should be self-explanatory coupled with Republican Guard doctrine.

You would more likely see a T-72B Model 1990 against an Abrams as that is what the T-72BV's are being refurbished/modernized against.

In that case it would be a T-90S lacking the Shtora optical countermeasures suite.

The Abrams just out classes all Russian tanks right now. The fact is, the Abrams can take out targets much further than any Russian tank every built. It wouldn't matter if they were using T90s and Russian modern tank doctrine, the US doctrine is better, their tanks are better, and they have aircraft.

But only about 80 SU-122-54 were ever made, while 25,000 T-72 have been produced and many of those exported. Very unlikely to encounter that SPG on a given battlefield. I may always reconsider this vehicle to be something else (like scorpion stage 3) but at the moment I'm happy with this set up.

Haha no seriously. Me as a big member of Untitled I am happy to hear that someone likes our mod...but I also did put a good amoung of work and designing for this mod and helped doc out on several things.
Oh well also keep in mind Untitled is far far more advanced in progress than VRM...you can't compare it actually. VRM is indeed not so far advanced in particle effects and so on. Just wait and see. I'm sure doc will create some awesome **** in the future! :D
