This mod is for all the players frustrated with the cartoony nature of Zero Hour units and buildings. We intend to replace every fanciful unit in Zero Hour with its closest possible real world equivalent, without changing the unit's capabilities.

Good model and texture. It gives the appearance that this M1A2 SEP has been in the field and not straight from the factory. I really like this weathering effect.

Is there any special tips or tricks to achieving this kind of a weathering effect in photoshop ?

Lots of dirt, lots of scraped-off paint lots of scratches, lots of flecks, lots of grease, and on top of that a little rust. Just be ready to dedicate many layers and much time.

hmmm...you should sharpen your mipmaps when exporting to .dds

Sharpen disproportionately affects "highlighted" areas with thin white strips/bright spots. I think it gives models a bit of a tacky look. But remember, your Abrams skin was two textures of 1024*1024 so the filesize was massive (and it is starting to become prohibitive for the mod in general), now I've got the entire tank in one texture here.

Yeah I know but it kinda looks blurred. Do you actually collapse the whole texture and sharpen it in photoshop directly? I mean for being close up it shouldn't be that blurred especially for 1024px.
Try to google some good sharpen methods for photoshop. The default sharpen methods are sometimes destructive.
I think a bit highlighting doesn't hurt so it won't look that flat. Sadly even I realized that realistic shaded textures are not really acceptable in ZH because they look flat.

Yes usually the skin gets a very light unsharp mask once its flattened. However on this skin I've done my best to cram everything in but the area of the frontal turret armor for example is about 140*66px (per side). The entire top of the turret gets 293*485. The hull is 298*648 etc etc. There are just limits I guess.

The thing is when this tank is seem from far away, like this: I.imgur.com , I sort of like it. All the sharp black/white lines drop away and it looks..pretty damn real IMO. And if you're worried about sharpness, you just gotta get up close and you can still enjoy (the screenshot I showed was very cropped zoomed out view so LOD was low): I.imgur.com Looks sharper eh?

Your model is better than the abram model of Cold War Crisis Media.moddb.com .

It's a really nice one though, just different style. For some reason its amusing how much texture space they gave to certain details like the guns/smoke launchers instead of the turret and hull.

in my RTS mod maker's opinion, the details on the turret are too pale to be seen from RTS perspective. I would make them a bit more visible and add scratches on the borders
That's one.
Secondly, just a thought - you can make TUSK version for "Composite armor upgrade". It can be done easily both in matters of code and modelling.

I'm looking forward to the new Supply Truck (SX-2190 or the EQ2102) and the Assault Troop Crawler (ZBL-09) the most.

From that list I'm looking forward as well to the Emperor Overlord (Type 99A2) , Nuke Cannon (PCL-09) , Nuke Tank (Type 96A/G) and finally the GLA :)

What would be the model that replaces the current Flame Tank ? Would it be a TO-59 (Type-59 style TO-55 with flamethrower ?)

you could use an m113 flamethrower support vehicle we sent hundreds over to china in the arms deals mostly to the democratic faction during their little civil war

M113 was introduced into US Service from 1960. The Chinese civil war was from 1927 - 1950.

They were never sent for the Peoples Republic of China but rather for Taiwan.

So unfortunately it wouldn't fit because this is the Peoples Republic of China (Mainland) and not Taiwan.

MLRS does usually fire one missile "at a time" so the current behavior is perfectly realistic. MLRS doesn't typically fire all rounds katyusha style ;)

Could you do an estimation of how long it will take until this mod is 100% complete?

I have been following it for a year, and I understand that work like this takes very long, but the progress has been so slow that it is likely that when this mod is completed, I have already forgotten it...

I am sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I think that you should recruit a whole office of modders, so that we gamers should not have to wait for so long...

Sincerely, a VRM fan

True! Compare to real picture, the turret's model is too small for 120mm ammunition. And look like a 105mm turret.

Turret is too far back. Just move it a little forward and it will look perfect.

Also make it a little teeeny weeeny bit wider.

Thenit should look 100% realistic.

This tank is 3.66*7.93m(not including gun), the dimensions are accurate to within 1-4cm in most places so I'm not going to be changing anything really.

Maybe your judgement is thrown off by odd perspective from render.

The model is great but its off dude, by a little I promise. You can see it when looking at pics of the real M1A2 tank. The track sections are a little too skinny here and the turret is a little too far back.

Only like 2 seconds to fix.

Again, I disagree on all counts, and I "promise" as well.

Also, no it wouldn't take 2 seconds to implement the changes you suggest. Join the mod team, you're free to! Seriously, I prefer people to actually join the mod team and help rather than suggest changes.

The proportions are a little bit off, but that's just fine. It's a game, and it doesn't have to be exactly, perfectly accurate. For what it's designed to do, it serves its purpose well, good work.
